Baseball Players are Soccer Fans Too

I love this! Alanna Rizzo tweeted this:

Then Yasiel Puig posted this on IG:
PUIG Y ADRIAN SOCCER

I love these two guys!

On Saturday  when we saw Yasiel Puig as he was going one way and us another, I called his name, Yasiel turned around and recognized me.  He came over to give me a hug then I told him this time Rosie was with us (If you read the post from Viva Los Dodgers he asked “where is the 3rd one?” :-)) .  He said he looked for us.  he then asked us if we had eaten _We had just had a big breakfast so we told him we did and that we were on our way to a church. He said “I can’t pray on an empty stomach” lol.

Yesterday after the game we went to say goodbye to the players as they boarded the bus that took them to the airport.  Some fans got Adrian’s attention that they had a Mexican flag in support of Mexico playing on Monday in the World Cup.  Adrian opened his backpack showing us that he was carrying his Mexico jersey.

Mexico won 3-1.  Now Boys in Blue go take care of the Royals!

Yasiel Puig at Viva Los Dodgers. Viva Puig!

Yasiel Puig made a special appearance at Viva Los Dodgers on June 1, 2014.   Yasiel was there to support the Lou Costello Recreation Center in Boyle Heights.  For a monetary donation, you could take a picture with him.   The lines were long.  Lucky, Lorena and I arrived early but we still waited close to 2 hours in line.

When I got to the front this is how our short conversation in Spanish went:

Me:  “Do you still think the same of all the women?”

Puig:  “What did I say?”

Me:  You told us in San Diego that all the women are the same”

At this point he laughed and hugged me.   Lorena was next and I said “Do you remember us?”    Puig said “Yes!  Where is the other one?”  The other one being Rosie who was with us in San Diego when we had a nice little chat with Puig.  We told Yasiel that Rosie could not make it but that we will see him in San Diego.

Here is the video that the Dodgers put online:

We had a great time with Puig at Viva and we donated to a good cause.   Both times I have found Puig humble, playfull and eager to donate his time to help kids in need.  Last year when we encountered him in San Diego, after our little chat,  he was heading to a local hospital to cheer some kids.

Congratulations to Yasiel Puig on his first anniversary today June 3, 2014.  It was a year ago today that he debuted with the Dodgers.   And Congratulations Yasiel on moving from 5th to 1st in the All-Star Game balloting.   Also Felicidades Yaseil on being named the MLB National League Player of the Month!   Well deserved!   VivaPuig!  VotePuig!

Chat with Yasiel Puig. Part two

I was disappointed that Yasiel Puig was late getting to the game yesterday.  I don’t know whose fault that was.   his driver?  but  Yasiel is also to blame.  Ok, but that is not why I started this post.

I forgot some of the conversation in my prior post.   After Wednesday’s Dodger win in San Diego, my friend Lorena reminded me of something I left out from my first post.

While at the café in San Diego on Monday, I told Yasiel we were there Sunday for the Opener and we were going to be there for the next two games.  Rosie then said “except for me, I leave tonight because I have to go back to work”   Yasiel then said “Oh, if we win the next two games, then I am going to blame you for the loss yesterday (Sunday).”    Rosie said “OMG!”  and we all laughed. Yasiel   then said “I am going to post your picture at the entrances so they won’t let you in.”    When the game was over on Wednesday night at Petco Park, Lorena said “Rosie can’t come to the game.”   Well, Rosie was at yesterday’s home opener and the Dodgers lost so here is a picture of Rosie:

You are welcome Rosie!  What are friends for ;-)    Dodger wins come first!   You can come back if I give you a “limpia”  with ruda.   We will give you a cleansing with Rue (that hierba is very odorous)  or we send you to a brujo.

Nice chat with Yasiel Puig

Greetings from San Diego!  My beisbolera friends and I  made the trip to San Diego for the Opening Series in San Diego.   We lost the Opener on Sunday.   Monday, a day off we went for a late breakfast close to Petco Park.  We happen to be seated at the table next to where Yasiel Puig, his cousin and Paco Rodriguez were sitting.    Yasiel was pointing at something in the  USA Today special baseball section that appeared on  Monday 3/31/14.    The section has salaries for the 856 major league players on Opening-day rosters and disabled.

We could hear what they were talking and they could hear us but we did not bother them, my back was facing Paco’s back and Rosie’s back was facing Yasiel.  Lorena was facing their back.   When I heard Yasiel say “Todas las mujeres son iguales..”  “All the women are alike..”  I just had to turn around.  He looked at me and said “Perdone senora.. but it is true..”  “I I heard you talking in Spanish so you understood me..”  From there we started talking.   I introduced myself saying I was from Honduras.  He said “oh, Hondurena..”   I said “Lorena is a teacher..”  He said “Oh you can teach me English.”   I asked him how did he liked Australia.  He said very pretty but the flight was too long even though he had a comfortable bed.   then I don’t know how we were talking about water but he said “I don’t like to be near the ocean, I had enough of ocean when I came to the U.S.

Yasiel Puig

We found Yasiel Puig very nice, personable, friendly, funny and witty.   He introduced himself, then he said this is Paco and this is my cousin Federico.  He laughed then saying that “we just call him Federico, you know for Federowicz,…”  I said “oh yeah, Fed-Ex.   They were glancing at the tv telling me a lot of teams are playing today their Opener.  I said yes, and showed him the MLB At Bat scores where at the time they were a lot of ties.   He said they were enjoying the day off and they needed it after the long flight to Australia.   I said “You will face Ian Kennedy tomorrow”  He touched his face and said “Don’t hit my face because he is going to make me ugly..”  “Hit my ribs instead…”   Then Lorena said “Did you see Chapman”   He said “Oh yeah, he texted me in Australia saying “even getting hit, you are still uglier than me..”    It was funny.

When he mentioned Fed-Ex, I said, yeah and Javy Guerra went to the White Sox.   Yasiel said “yeah, Belisario is there.”  I said “Oh yeah, the ugliest one from the team left.”   Puig laughed and said to Paco and his cousin  “Did you hear that?  LOL”

Afterwards Yasiel was saying we should take some kids to the game. then he got up and extended his hand to me then to Rosie and Lorena.   Yasiel walked to a table  where they was a kid dressed in Dodger Blue.  He said hi to the kid and family then took a picture with the kid.

Like I said, we found him to be very friendly, personable, funny and witty.  We did not bother him asking him for a picture.  We thought it was not appropriate but we loved the chat.    Oh yeah, I forgot to say when he was talking about stadiums, he said to me “No me gusta Dodger Stadium.”   He sounded serious but when I looked at him with a sad face he laughed and I knew he was joking. He said he couldn’t wait to be home playing for the home crowd, “his gente”.   I mentioned other stadiums I like like the view from Pittsburgh.  He said well we don’t see the view, we look at the field but still I said “You should look at Dodger Stadium from the Top Deck, look at the natural beauty, the mountains in front and the downtown in the back.  Rosie mentioned you could see the Hollywood sign from there.    I said “go after all the fans have gone home.”  He said “I could go when I first get there.”

It was a great day.   We like Yasiel Puig even more now.

Vote Puig to the MLB All-Star Game 2013 Final Vote

It is baseball’s best interest to have Yasiel Puig in the All-Star game.   He is capturing everyone’s attention.  I have non-baseball friends asking me about Puig.   Baseball fans, not just Dodger fans want to see him there.  He is the most exciting player I have seen in a long time.  Just like I wanted to see Harper before, I want to see Puig in the All-Star.  He has legitimate talent.  If he is coming up to bat, I am paying more attention, if the ball gets hit his way, my eyes are on him, if he is on the  , my eyes are glued to see his next move.   Vote for Yasiel Puig!

I did and got this:

MLB NL Player of the Week in his first week: Yasiel Puig

Yasiel Puig had an unbelievable week! In his first week in the Majors, he batted .464 (13 for 28), hit four homeruns which included a grand slam, and got 10 RBI in the leadoff spot. Oh and what can we say of that cannon of an arm? It is just incredible! We don’t expect him to do that every week but what a joy to watch this 22 year old Cuban!

Yasiel Puig’s 13 hits through his first seven games are the most for any Dodger player since 1916. Even in the 8-1 Dodger loss to the Braves on Sunday he managed to go 3 for 5 and make another rocket throw from the outfield. I was at the stadium just saying “WOW!” “Amazing!”

The minute the Puig shirts were in the Dodger stores, people were buying them and you could see them everywhere at the stadium. The Puig jersey hit the store on Sunday or at least is when I saw them in the club level store. Puigmania is in full force at Dodger Stadium.

Fun Times have returned to Dodger Stadium

Oh is so much fun being at Dodger Stadium with Yasiel Puig there. I know we have to be cautious but the last two days have been fun fun fun with Cuban missile Yasiel Puig.

Monday 6/3/13 – I was so looking forward to his debut. He got two hits in the first game and in the 9th inning he used his powerful and accurate right arm to complete a game-ending double play, catching the San Diego Padres off guard in a 2-1 victory at Dodger Stadium. He sent us fans happy.

Tuesday 6/4/13- What did he do for an uncore for this second start? He hit not one but TWO homeruns!  Here is Yasiel Puig showing off his two homerun balls.

Dodgers bats are cold against the Giants. More Haikus

It all went down hill for the Dodgers after the Home Opener.  They lost 2 out of three to the hated Giants.   Here are a few sudokus I came up with after the loss.

Lincecum pitching
walks seven Dodgers in five
just two unearned runs :-(

One for 14 Ugh!
worst: two for 27
in series with RISP :-(

Bases loaded Yes!
3-4-5 hitters no outs
scored only one run :-(

Seven double plays
by the Giants, Did Blue win?
no, Tim was lucky

Dodgers lose again
Only win game with Kershaw
of three game series

Leaving stadium late
Listening to Dodger Talk
on the long drive home

Today is day off
Dodgers reflect on mistakes
be sharp for weekend!

In Chattanooga
Yasiel Puig will make debut
Lookouts for the kid

Dodgers need to beat Pirates
so wake up those bats!

SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS VS LOS ANGELES DODGERS

What does Wes Parker and Robin William have in common?

They both studied at  Claremont McKenna  College.

A friend told me that there was going to be a discussion on the business of Baseball  with Wes Parker, Jim Colborn and Scott Akasaki on Monday November 19.     I checked Google map to see how long it was going to take me to get there.  Google map said 1:15  minutes in current traffic.  I did not believe it as it takes me 1:10 minutes to get home which is 45 miles away.  From Chatsworth to Claremont there are 61 miles.    It actually took me TWO HOURS & 45 MINUTES!   Several times I thought about turning back and going home.

I am glad that I Char parked next to me as I probably would have wasted more time looking for the place on campus.    The event was already in progress  and Dodgers traveling manager, Scott Akasaki was speaking.

Before Scott introduced Wes Parker he asked “Who hit for the cycle after Wes Parker had done it for the Dodgers?”   Scott picked Char to answer the question.  She immediately said “Orlando Hudson”   Scott rewarded her with a Wes Parker signed baseball.   She was ecstatic!

After the event was over Char shared a cute story wtih Wes Parker.   She said that when she was 12 she wrote a snail mail to Wes with questions for a career assignment and he replied.  She said she lost the index sized postcard, but the answers were neatly typed.   Mr. Parker said “Oh yeah!  I replied to all my fan mail!’   Love Wes!   Here he is with his old coach!

Scott gave a lot of baseballs.   There were more signed baseballs from Wes Parker.

Who was the Brewers first 20 game winner?

Jim Colborn.  Jim asked that question.   Jim Colborn has a  a good sense of humor.   He had us believing that Tommy Lasorda was in attendance.     Jim also threw a no-hitter against the Kansas City Royals.

There were a few signed baseballs by Jim Colborn.  Scott at one point asked “Anyone here from San Francisco?”  They got a signed baseball from Jeff Kent.   There was a signed baseball also from Andre Ethier.

Scott had a box full of signed baseballs!   One of the questions he asked “Anyone  Cuban descendant or from the Caribbean?”   I put my hand up that I was from Central America so I got Yasiel Puig signed baseball!

It was a long day but I am glad I went.  Thanks Char!
