Spring Training 2010: More Pictures
Congratulations to Andre Ethier who had his number (#14) retired by his alma mater, Saint Mary’s High School, Wednesday at Phoenix. Tommy Lasorda was there in addition to Rick Monday who emceed the event.
My friend took this picture of me with my Andre shirt.
Too many people here, let’s walk to the Dodgers Minor league area:
Here is Elisa and I walking where the minor leaguers practice.
And no Bailey! I am not willing to trade Ethier from my baseball fantasy team “Locos Azules”!
I love my Shape-up shoes!
Game underway and Kemp little fans waiting to see if they can get a baseball
Maybe this guy drove all night to get to Camelback Ranch. We nicknamed him Sleeping Beauty. People kept coming by taking pictures with him or thowing peanuts aming for his mouth.
But Sleeping Beauty was wide awake the following day with this sign, except he was blocking our view. I yelled “Hey! you are blocking home plate” “Go back to sleep instead” to which the fans around laughed and applauded. Everyone remember the guy from the day before.
Speaking of signs, here is the familiar sign Dodgers see at other ballparks

I like this sign better and I love the rainbow! Sign reads “is not about how you start. It is about how you finish.” picture taken while we were driving.
Here is another picture of the rainbow taken over the window of the car. There was a double rainbow but is hard to see here.
Padilla has been named the starter for the Opener at Pittsburgh and Kershaw the Opener at Dodger Stadium! Congratulations guys! I can’t wait to watch you pitch!
I laughed when I saw a poster posted this comment in mikesciosciatragicillness blog when Padilla was announced as the Opening Day starter.
jay_jaffe Why, did he shoot Kershaw and Billingsley?
The Reunion: Andre Ethier and Matt Kemp greet Juan Pierre
I actually missed taking the pictures because I went looking for food. Lucky for me my friend LuvtheDodgers23 stayed so she took all these pictures. When I saw them I went “ahhh, how cute!”

A tough week for LA Sports fan this week.
I mentioned this on facebook but not here. Last week we mourn two LA sports figures in Willie Davis and Merlin Olsen.
Willie Davis who still holds the all-time L.A. Dodgers records for the hits, extra-base hits, total bases, plate appearances, triples, and for the longest hitting streak, at 31 games. The last time I saw Willie Davis was at the RBI(Reviving Baseball in Inter-cities) dinner last year.
Merlin Olsen. As a Los Angeles Rams fan, I remember watching Merlin Olsen an afterwards as a broadcaster more so than his acting career.
I could not help shed a few tears when I heard of both these gentlemen passing away. Both were 69.
This letter from a fan sent to the L.A. Times says it well:
“I can still hear Dick Enberg describing another Merlin Olsen sack, “And the applause is for the defense!” I can still see Willie Davis galloping around the bases for another triple. A big part of my youth just walked into the shadows of the Coliseum tunnel. A piece of my childhood just rounded third and headed on home. -John Thompson Chino, CA.
Rest in peace 3-Dog and Merlin Olsen.
Pictures from Spring Training 2010 Trip
Hi everyone! I’ve been so busy that I have not had a chance to make a new post since Sunday. I have a lot of picures but here are some from our trip to Camelback Ranch:
We got on the road very early in the morning. This picture is going by Yucca Valley, close to Joshua Tree where they have lots of windmills.
Ahhh… we arrived free of any speeding tickets. Here is a welcome sign at the CVS across from Camelback Ranch that reads “WELCOME LA DODGERS BASEBALL FANS”
See those beads we are wearing? Well, we bought them in the giftshop but after putting sunblock, my friends noticed that my neck was bleeding Dodger Blue! But is a cute necklace. See, is not beads but little baseballs!
Pictures from the following morning. Manny Mota, as usual on his bike. Later on inside, prior to the game, he threw me a ball and after juggling it, I was able to catch it!
The other Manny, as usual, with Rafael Furcal. Here he is talking to fans.
The famous Roberto of VinScullyismyhomeboy blog.
Andre Ethier!
Matt Kemp.
My Loney!
No more beard for Casey Blake! I actually liked the beard! I can’t say “Stay Thirsty my friends” from the Dos Equis beer commercial.
Frank McCourt. Notice Josh Rawitch to the left. One fan asked Frank “how is the wife?”
I just noticed my earring came out in that picture! Thank you LuvetheDodgers23 for my beautiful earrings!
More pictures on the new two or three posts. I got so many pictures!
Greetings from Camelback Ranch! Thank you Mike!
Greetings everyone!
First of all, I want to give a big thank you to my friend Mike! Wow Mike! You blew me away with this post! Not only did you give us a wonderful post of our Brooklyn Bums when they won in 1955 but when I saw the title I was what? Wow Mike! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
When I first started reading Mike’s blog, I became hooked so jump on his Brooklyn Trolley for a wonderful ride!
Spring Training in Arizona
I have been having a ball here in Arizona! If you have not been to Spring Training, make an effort to go. Is so much fun seeing the regular players, the ones trying to make the team and others within the organization and those that work covering the Dodgers.
Tony Jackson who used to work for the Daily News and now works for ESPN Los Angeles, came over to greet me after I yelled “HEY TONY!” I am so glad that Tony is back working as a Dodger Beat Writer!
And Mike, yes, the patch is a go! Here is Loney sporting the patch. This picture is also for those that are looney for Loney:

Here is one for all the Ethierholics! is ao nice to see Andre’s swing! Thank you to my friend that I have nicknamed her Juana Soo Hoo for the great pictures she takes!

When I get home I will upload more pictures!
I also have some funny anecdotes to tell!
We had a lot of fun at the first game when we got there about an hour before game time. The following day we got there as soon as they let us get in which is 9:AM. I greeted the players as they made their way through the roped area. Everyone was so nice with “Hey!, good morning!” “hey, how are you?” I LOVE MY BOYS IN BLUE!
Rafael Furcal and Manny seemed inseparable. I greeted Rafi and he greeted me back. And then I said “Como estas Manny” He reponded smiling “Bien, Bien, si me puedo levantar en la manana, todo esta bien.” “Good, good, if I can get up in the morning, eveything is fine!”
Sunday’s game, after no news online that the game was going to be cancelled at Mesa, we headed that way. The Cub’s ballpark reminded me of Wrigley Field. There was a signing with ex-players such as Fergusen Jenkins, Rollie Fingers and Tommy Davis. I stopped to talk to Tomy Davis so I did not see who else was there. As I was talking to Tommy Davis, they made the announcement that the game had been cancelled so after I purchased a ball signed by Tommy Davis, we left. I know I can get Tommy to sign at Dodger Stadium or any event by the Dodgers but I felt that I am helping by making a purchase there. The balls were $20. Tommy signed it “Tommy Davis NL Batting Champ 1962 1963.
We ended up at the Arizona Museum for Young (AMY). They are featuring “Play Ball! The Cactus League Experience” from Feb. 26 – Nov. 7 2010. I recomended for both adults and kids. You can read more about it at www.arizonamuseumforyouth.com I will post pictures about this place after I get home!
Tomorrow we head to Scottsdale to watch our bums play the hated Jints.

Because I loved Vero Beach!
I’ve been thinking about my wonderful trips to Vero Beach. I love that place! It was so fan friendly. Here is hoping that Arizona will be as fan friendly. Here are some pictures
Here is the starting lineup for the Dodgers & Red Sox:
My seats with this view here were inexpensive.
Here is Tommy Signing autographs. I had already gotten his autograph when he was walking around so I did not get in line here.
I met wonderful friends at this Spring Training. One of them loaned me his baseball for the WIN Women baseball clinic.
