Six Women and a Men Went to Camelback Ranch to see the Dodgers in a Dodger Blue Minivan
When Lorena and I found out that there was going to be a Spring Traning Fanfest 3/3/12, we said “Let’s go!” Rosie, who we met on Twitter last year said “I want to go!” The original plan was to go for the day. We already had a Spring Training road trip planned for the St Patrick weekend so we thought a turnaround trip would be OK.
On Saturday 2/25 I get a text from Lorena that Amanda was joining. A few days later Lorena tells us her friend Priscila is also joining us. Our group had grown to FIVE.
After thinking it over, we thought the original plan was kinda crazy to drive from LA to AZ and come back the same night so we changed it stay Saturday night.
The buz at Camelback Ranch the day before we were to leave was that Sandy Koufax was there! Dodger fans were giddy with excitment.

Kershaw, Sandy Koufax and Don Mattingly. Picture taken by Jon SooHoo.
Because of Sandy Koufax was at Camelback Ranch, our group grew to seven a few hours before we were scheduled to take off. Needless to say some of us hardly got any sleep or none at all.
The minivan arrived at my house about 2 AM. A few minutes later Rosie was dropped off at my house. Because of a mixup, Rosie did not bring anything but her purse. She thought we had changed back to making the trip a turnaround trip. She wanted to stay but we said “There is a Target, close by…. “ So off we went six women and a men in a Blue Minivan.
Here is Rene practicing hitchhiking just in case we left them behind. The perfect place would have been here
We arrived safely and it was off to taking pictures. The first one I took was with Gaylord Perry

The second one was with Javy!

Here is Rene and I talking with Jon SooHoo

With Manny Mota on his bicycle

Plenty of pictures were taking especially at Sattle Ranch where 3 of the group rode the mechanical bull but I’ll leave the pictures for another post or maybe I should check with the group if is OK to post.
I had a wonderful time on this trip. Can’t wait to be back at Camelback Ranch for St Patrick weekend. The only thing is I won’t be able to watch the game on Sunday as I am scheduled to work in NH the following week so I am taking a flight at noon.

I ran into Jose Mota of the Angels talking to his dad Manny Mota of the Dodgers. Jose was on the outside of the fence.

I spotted Mike Scioscia signing autographs so I headed to the visitor’s dugout. He signed my Union 76 giveaway pictures from back in his playing days.
Jason: It was great that you got to serve as the bat boy!
Andre Ethier!
As bat boy Jason was getting back to the dugout after giving the umpire some baseballs we yelled “LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BAT BOY!” Jason turned around and waived. Some fans behind the Dodger dugout turned to see who was yelling that.
After the game with another lemonade wtih watermelon flavor for the road.

Spring Training or Bust and Dodgers Opening Day Update
Camelback Ranch or Bust
Spring Training here we come! We drive Saturday night from the LA area bound to Glendale, AZ or Bust! We’ll see if we get stopped because we are Hispanics J We’ll report from Arizona. Countdown: Five days!
37 days till Opening Day
When I first heard that ESPN wanted to broadcast Opening Day for The Dodgers against the Giants, I was not happy. My first thought was “Oh NO!” No Vin Scully!” That is sacrilegious! Vin is entering his 62nd season as voice of the Dodgers and this will be his 54th home opener in Los Angeles
But serenity has been restored! It has been announced that Vin will be covering the game on the radio doing innings one to three and seven to nine. Ah! I feel much better. Listening to Vin Scully makes TV unnessary but I’ll be at the game!
I am also glad that the Dodgers held their ground because if it was up to ESPN, the game would have been moved to Frisco! Still I am not happy that it got moved to an evening to accommodate TV.
Opening Day was supposed to be Friday April 1‘st but because of ESPN, it will be Thursday March 31st at 5.P.M Pacific Time. Unlike some, I was able to change my vacation day. BTW, I argued with my boss that it should be a holiday since I call Dodger Stadium, Our Lady of Chavez Ravine but he would not buy it.
To hold us up until we get to hear Vin Scully again, here is Bill Buckner 1986 game or 9th Inning of Sandy Koufax”s Perfect Game

2011 Dodger Caravan and Spring Training plans
Spring is in the air! Check out the flowers outside where I work. They are called Magnolia Alexandria.
The Dodgers Caravan will be February 14th to the 15th! This year is full of community work where the fans get to join in!.
My friend Lorena, Erik and I are thrilled that we were able to signed up for both days. February 14th it will be Cleanup our LA river and February 15th, cleanup the Bay (Santa Monica). I can’t wait!
The Dodger current and past players along with Dodger announcers will also visit hospitals and schools as part of giving back to the community. I think getting the fans involved is a great idea. Details here
Dodgers will also be at the Lopez Tonight show in Burbank on Valentines Day but I could not get tickets to that. Can anyone get us at the Warner Bros studios on that day? I used to know someone that used to get me VIP tickets but that person moved out of state.
My friend Lorena and started talking Spring Training games when we met at the Laker game last night. Yeah, Lakers lost to the Spurs but we had a good time.
We along with friend Margie decided on the first two games at Camelback Ranch. The first game is Sunday February 27th against the Angels and Monday against the White Sox. We might get there on Saturday or early Sunday. I can’t wait!
February is looking pretty good! that is Andre Ethier jumping up with Joaquin

Spring Training 2010: More Pictures
Congratulations to Andre Ethier who had his number (#14) retired by his alma mater, Saint Mary’s High School, Wednesday at Phoenix. Tommy Lasorda was there in addition to Rick Monday who emceed the event.
My friend took this picture of me with my Andre shirt.
Too many people here, let’s walk to the Dodgers Minor league area:
Here is Elisa and I walking where the minor leaguers practice.
And no Bailey! I am not willing to trade Ethier from my baseball fantasy team “Locos Azules”!
I love my Shape-up shoes!
Game underway and Kemp little fans waiting to see if they can get a baseball
Maybe this guy drove all night to get to Camelback Ranch. We nicknamed him Sleeping Beauty. People kept coming by taking pictures with him or thowing peanuts aming for his mouth.
But Sleeping Beauty was wide awake the following day with this sign, except he was blocking our view. I yelled “Hey! you are blocking home plate” “Go back to sleep instead” to which the fans around laughed and applauded. Everyone remember the guy from the day before.
Speaking of signs, here is the familiar sign Dodgers see at other ballparks

I like this sign better and I love the rainbow! Sign reads “is not about how you start. It is about how you finish.” picture taken while we were driving.
Here is another picture of the rainbow taken over the window of the car. There was a double rainbow but is hard to see here.
Padilla has been named the starter for the Opener at Pittsburgh and Kershaw the Opener at Dodger Stadium! Congratulations guys! I can’t wait to watch you pitch!
I laughed when I saw a poster posted this comment in mikesciosciatragicillness blog when Padilla was announced as the Opening Day starter.
jay_jaffe Why, did he shoot Kershaw and Billingsley?
The Reunion: Andre Ethier and Matt Kemp greet Juan Pierre
I actually missed taking the pictures because I went looking for food. Lucky for me my friend LuvtheDodgers23 stayed so she took all these pictures. When I saw them I went “ahhh, how cute!”

A tough week for LA Sports fan this week.
I mentioned this on facebook but not here. Last week we mourn two LA sports figures in Willie Davis and Merlin Olsen.
Willie Davis who still holds the all-time L.A. Dodgers records for the hits, extra-base hits, total bases, plate appearances, triples, and for the longest hitting streak, at 31 games. The last time I saw Willie Davis was at the RBI(Reviving Baseball in Inter-cities) dinner last year.
Merlin Olsen. As a Los Angeles Rams fan, I remember watching Merlin Olsen an afterwards as a broadcaster more so than his acting career.
I could not help shed a few tears when I heard of both these gentlemen passing away. Both were 69.
This letter from a fan sent to the L.A. Times says it well:
“I can still hear Dick Enberg describing another Merlin Olsen sack, “And the applause is for the defense!” I can still see Willie Davis galloping around the bases for another triple. A big part of my youth just walked into the shadows of the Coliseum tunnel. A piece of my childhood just rounded third and headed on home. -John Thompson Chino, CA.
Rest in peace 3-Dog and Merlin Olsen.
Pictures from Spring Training 2010 Trip
Hi everyone! I’ve been so busy that I have not had a chance to make a new post since Sunday. I have a lot of picures but here are some from our trip to Camelback Ranch:
We got on the road very early in the morning. This picture is going by Yucca Valley, close to Joshua Tree where they have lots of windmills.
Ahhh… we arrived free of any speeding tickets. Here is a welcome sign at the CVS across from Camelback Ranch that reads “WELCOME LA DODGERS BASEBALL FANS”
See those beads we are wearing? Well, we bought them in the giftshop but after putting sunblock, my friends noticed that my neck was bleeding Dodger Blue! But is a cute necklace. See, is not beads but little baseballs!
Pictures from the following morning. Manny Mota, as usual on his bike. Later on inside, prior to the game, he threw me a ball and after juggling it, I was able to catch it!
The other Manny, as usual, with Rafael Furcal. Here he is talking to fans.
The famous Roberto of VinScullyismyhomeboy blog.
Andre Ethier!
Matt Kemp.
My Loney!
No more beard for Casey Blake! I actually liked the beard! I can’t say “Stay Thirsty my friends” from the Dos Equis beer commercial.
Frank McCourt. Notice Josh Rawitch to the left. One fan asked Frank “how is the wife?”
I just noticed my earring came out in that picture! Thank you LuvetheDodgers23 for my beautiful earrings!
More pictures on the new two or three posts. I got so many pictures!
