Ross Porter will be at Dodger Stadium this weekend! I read it on Tom Hoffard column here: http://www.dailybulletin.com/ci_23359256/tom-hoffarth-media-ross-porter-returns-dodger-stadium
From the article:
The 74-year-old has stayed busy on various broadcasting projects and finds himself returning to the stadium today as an employee of Fox Sports West. Executive producer Tom Feuer hired him to call today’s CIF Southern Section Division III title game between Mira Costa and Serra (2 p.m.) as well as the Division II championship between Cypress and Temecula Valley (5 p.m.), both of which will stream on the FoxSportsWest.com Prep Zone online platform
I would love it if he would return working for the Dodgers.
In the meantime, the Dodgers are in Colorado after dropping the two games at Anaheim Stadium. I made the trip to Anaheim for the two games. I drove for the first game and took the Metrolink special train the second night. I do recommend taking the train. It is $7 round trip. The train back from the stadium leaves 30 minutes after the last out.
Tonight is El Niño de Oro Clayton Kershaw against Garland. Game at 5:40 p.m. Pacific Time.
Can you believe that the Dodgers record at Nationals Park is 1-4??? I still remember getting swept there last year. Around that time, my two traveling friends and I were talking about going to Arizona where the team was heading next to get them out of their funk. We steered the team in the right direction as the team started winning there :-)
Dodgers lost in ugly fashion last night 5-4 but the loss was encouraging in that Billingsley pitched well taking a no hitter into the 6th inning until he had that costly hanging chad
that Zimmerman took into the Dodger bullpen. The score was tied in the 9th inning and lost by James McDonnalds. JMac has struggled this year. I don’t think he will be making the playoff roster.
Vicente Padilla takes the mound against J.D. Martin
Magic Number is
Joe Torre’s number
Let’s bring down that number!
The Dodger Giant Rivalry Event sponsored by the Baseball Reliquary
I thoroughly enjoyed myself at the event sponsored by the Baseball Reliquary. (did not know this organization existed!). It featured Arnold Hano representing the JINTs and Ross Porter representing the Dodgers. It was moderated by Jean Hastings Ardell.
Here is the not so good picture I took of Arnold Hano, Jean Ardell and Ross Porter
I got there a little early and was browsing the list of baseball books they had on display I was telling my friend Erik that my friend Linda had said that “The Echoeing Green” was an excellent read when this man overheard me and said that he wa discussing the book with vin Scully. I was like “who is this man?” Later on I realized that it was the author Arnold Hano.
Mr. Hano is 87 years old and he along with Ross Porter took their turns talking about each team and poking fun at the other team. We were treated to stories of the old days and at the end took questions from a crowded audience. I regretted that I did not have any cash on me to buy Hano’s book “A day in the Bleachers.”. I took pictures of the exhibition and went home wanting to read Mr Hano’s book. Here are two additional pics I took. The rest did not come out too well. .
I love what it says about Drysdale. “Don Drysdale is in charge of all clubhouse pets such as dogs, cats, white mice and hamsters. He was selected because he is very kind to animals and never hits them–only people (especially when they are in Giant uniforms).
Dodgers took another series by beating the J I N T S two out of three!
Dodgers outscored the Giants 22-11.
Highlights of the series:
- Grand Slam by Belliard off Brad Penny
- Back to back homeruns by Kemp (25)and Loney (13). For Loney that was hist first HR at home.
- Garland pitched eight innings without allowing an earned run Saturday
- Randy Wolf . With six innings he surpassed 200 innings for the first time since 2003. He’s 6-0 with a 2.41 ERA in his last eight starts, all quality starts.
- Ethier belted his 31st homerun with a man on base for the Dodgers’ first 100 RBI season since J.D. Drew in 2006, the first 30/100 season since Adrian Beltre in 2004 and the first by a Dodgers outfielder since Shawn Green in 2002.
Mike, a fellow season ticket holder was showing us this coin that he received from a General in Iraq where he has been sending Dodger giveaways and other Dodger memorabillia.
An off day for my Dodgers but I will be attending this event at the Burbank library:
Author Arnold Hano and broadcaster Ross Porter, who combined have produced over a century of distinguished work in their respective professions, will share their recollections of the Dodgers-Giants rivalry, from New York to the West Coast, in a very special evening presented by the Baseball Reliquary on Monday, September 21, 2009, at 7:00 pm, in the Burbank Central Library Auditorium, 110 N. Glenoaks Blvd., Burbank, California. The discussion, which will be moderated by Jean Hastings Ardell, is free of charge and open to the public
