The Dodgers Sweep the Giants! The Dodgers Sweep the Giants!

The Dodgers Sweep the Giants!  The Dodgers Sweep the Giants!

El Maestro Jaime Jarrin mentioned yesterday that the last time the Dodgers swept the Giants was in 2009!  April 13, 15, 16.   Hmm no game on April 14?

The winning pitchers  then were Billingsley 4/13, Broxton on 4/15 and Stults on 4/16.

This homestand the  winning pitchers:  6/24, Paco Rodriguez!  Anyone remembers this “Nobody says no to Paco” in the movie definitely Maybe?   Stephen Fife won the game 6/25 and last night the Golden Boy Clayton Kershaw won his 6th game.   It was a long time waiting for #6 but Kershaw finally won to complete the sweep and continue the winning streak at 5.

Now the Phillies are in town for a four game series.  It is going to be crazy at Dodger Stadium today with Sandy Koufax bobblehead giveaway.

So off to the stadium I go!   for game #43!  I have not missed a game this year.

On the mound tonight:  Zack Greinke against Pettibone.  Let’s Go Dodgers! Let’s Go!

Tomorrow June 28, is my birthday!  so an early birthday present for tonight is a W

Trade Deadline: Welcoming new Dodgers & saying Goodbye to others

July 31 brings many emotions to baseball fans.   Anticipations abound along with frustrations, happiness & some sadness.  July 31_the Trade Deadline Is a time to say goodbye to some players and to welcome new ones.

For the Dodgers the trades started on Tuesday night July 24, when the Dodgers acquired Hanley Ramirez  & Randy choate.

Randy choate

The next trade happened Monday night July 30, when the Dodgers got Brandom League from the Mariners  for  outfielder Leon Landry and right-hander Logan Bawcom.  Dodgers will use League in the seventh & eight  inning.

 Brandom League

Here is a tweet from @BrandomLeague43:  “Excited to join Dodgers!!  Can’t wait to meet new teammates, have my OLD throwing partner back, and call LA my home!”

Welcome Brandom League!

Dodgers got Shane Victorino back from the Phillies in exchange for Major League relief pitcher Josh Lindblom, starting pitching prospect Ethan Martin and a player to be named later or cash considerations.   Victorino returns to the Dodgers eight years later after he was lost to the Phillies in the Rule 5 draft.

I can’t call Victorino “The Crying Hawaiian”  any longer.  We Dodger fans go from love/hate back to love relationship.

Jon SooHoo dug out this picture of Shane Victorino from 2004 back at Vero Beach.  Thanks Jon!

Jon also ran into other pictures like this of Jonathan Broxton who went to the Reds.  Good luck Broxton.

@JoshLindblom made me cry with his tweets.

We will miss you Josh on the Dodger team and your community work in Los Angeles.   Thank you, your wife and your Josh Lindblom foundation for your work with the Dream Center.

Good luck to the Dodgers going to other teams and a welcome to all the new Dodgers

So to Recap:

Phillies disappoint Little Leaguers but Dodgers come to the rescue!

I saw this first on Facebook. Found that is from

http://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/opinion/letters/voice-of-the-people-june/article_7006298c-ed0c-5712-bc73-2bf0fdf499fa.html

It appears to be a letter sent from Vincent Scotti. According to it, Juan Pierre was the only one that acknowledged the kids. I know 500 little leaguers is a lot of little kids, but to only see one Phllie player acknowledging some of these kids is not cool.

I am not sure what the Phillies have done to rectify this but I am sure something will be done. In the meantime, I am glad the Dodgers stepped in and did the right thing!

It should be a good matchup tonight at Oakland with Eovaldi going for the Dodgers against Milone for the Athletics.

Get well Roberto!
Roberto of the blog Vinscullyismyhomeboy has been in the hospital. Wishing you a speedy recovery Roberto. Que Dios te mejore.

Congratulations to the Dodgers on the Sweep of the Phillies! Welcome to Seattle!

A big congratulations to the Dodgers on sweeping the Phillies. This team does not give up. I am so proud of them!

Lorena, Rosie and I arrived at about 11 AM in Seattle. Other friends from Dodger Stadium are also here. We heard from Kristin and Mike. Dee & Kevin are on the way. I just read that Mike from Baseballbetweenus.com is also here. We went to the Space Needle. We also went to the Dale Chihuly Center and Garden Glass Museum. We did a lot of walking today and tomorrow is on to the game.

Good luck Eovaldi! Good luck Dodgers in Seattle!

Happy 64th Birthday Ron Cey

Today February 15th is Ron Cey’s 64th birthday.   I was looking for a picture of the Penguin and I but I could not find any.  I’ve taken pictures of him with other players but not of him by himself and I could not find one with me.  I know somewhere I do have some.  I need to organize my pictures.

Here is a picture of Ron Cey with his kids.

And here he is two years ago with Vin Scully and Tommy Lasorda:

Here is a picture I took July 2010 at the Steve Garvey Celebrity Softball game.  I was invited by Mike who also has season tickets in my section.

a while ago here http://crzblue.mlblogs.com/2010/11/11/third-base-has-been-very-very-cold-to-the-dodgers/ I wrote a post saying that Ron Cey never won a gold glove, not because he did not deserve one but he played during Mike Schmidt tenure.  So here is a glove for you Ron!  Is not gold but is chocolate!

Happy Birthday Penguin!

note:  MLB TV announced they will televise for the first time, two Urban League baseball games this Saturday.

Dodgers, Phillies, Wild Card, Kenley Jansen, Trade Deadline

This morning as I was hurrying to take my train from Union Station, a lady was coming the opposite side and asked me “where is the train to San Diego?”   I pointed her in the right direction but Ughhh!  I wanted to hop on that train!   I thought about it briefly  “I can go the way I am right now..No, I need to go to work…I’ll get updates from there :-(.

I hope Padilla gets better support from the offense.   Our offense has been so anemic that they need one of these.

Dodgers acquired Podsednik for  Class A RHP Elisaul Pimentel and Catcher Lucas May.  Not happy that Oswald went to the Phillies.   Dodgers have not even faced the Phillies yet.   The Wild Card just got a little harder and wilder.  Will the Dodgers be buyers or sellers by the Trade deadline?

When I was at the FanFest, we got in line to get our baseball cards.   They had different jerseys you could put on to pose for the picture.   Brother Vic posed with a Rays jersey.  He is a Rays fan in addition to being a Dodger fan.  We teased him afterwards that we had traded him to Tampa for Evan Longoria.

I had taken my picture with a Dodger uni and as a hitter

but when I saw my brother as a pitcher, I wanted one too so I put on the NL uni

You know the first youtube video I recorded of Kenley Jansen that I put in my prior post?  Well, last night I noticed that it has over 5,000 views!  Unbelievable!

Let’s go Padilla!

Let’s go Dodgers!

Oh, I just got an email from Matt from http://pittpeas.mlblog.com that I am being featured in the MLB blog front page!  Wow!   Thank you Matt for alerting me!  And thank you MLBlogs!!

A Trivia, 1950 and World Series

I was counting how many current Phillies played for the Dodgers.  I counted six, can you name them?  Actually, Sue of

Rants, Raves and Random Thoughts counted eight!  wow!

My friend LTD23 was reminding me of this incident:

In Spring Training of 2005, Jayson Werth was hit on the wrist by an A.Burnett pitch and although the wrist was broken, he came back to play 102 games.  His numbers suffered considerably and after the year he was diagnosed with two torn ligaments in the wrist, causing him to miss the entire 2005 season.

Around this time I like to go back and read or re-read about World Series of the past so I took out this large coffee table book from the library.

The first World Series was played in 1903 when the Pittsburgh Pirates played against the Boston Americans.  Boston won that series 5 games to 3.

Did you know that in 1904, there was no game because the New York Giants thought that their team was too good to play anyone?   They considered the American League a minor league!

In World Series games, the Yankees have swept the opposition EIGHT times!    wow!   The teams that the Yankees have swept are the Cubs (2x), the Cardinals, the Reds, the Atlanta Braves, the Pirates and the Padres.

Yankees have been swept THREE times by the L.A. Dodgers, NY Giants, and the Reds.

The Phillies and the Yankees have only met once in a World Series.   That happened in 1950 when the Yankees swept the Phillies.    That year, the Phillies won the N.L. pennant on the last day of the season.   In the top of the 10th inning, with two on and one out, in a 1-1 tied, Dick Sisler hit a walk-off homerun against Brooklyn Dodger Don Newcombe  to clinch the first N.L. pennant in 35 years.  Robins Roberts, the starter for the Phillies, who had lead off the 10th with a single,  held the lead in the bottom of the inning and the Philadelphia Phillies were National League champions for the first time since 1915.

The World Series started three days later.   Roberts, who pitched three times in the last five days of the regular season, was unavailable for a Game 1 start.  Although the Phillies were swept, the series was close as three of the games were lost by one run.   The only two homeruns in the series were by Joe Dimaggio and Yogi Berra.

Now let’s see what history is made in the 2009 World Series.  This time the Phillies are well rested.  Let the games begin!

Dodgers Zizling Hot Stove Baseball.

Fist of all, congratulations to the Phillies and their fans!   You are the better team.  Good luck!

Now let the hot stove begin.   Ned and company should start working on the 2010 team now.  He got a lot of work to do.

I want pitchers that can go more than 4 innings.   I want pitchers that can pound the strike zone.

I want a better option at 3rd base.   Casey Blake did not deliver in the postseason.  Can we undo this trade and get back Carlos Santana? and who else did we give there?  Meloan I believe.

Which Rafael is the real deal, the one that played against the Cardinals or the Phillies.

Manny.  Is Manny done?   At times, he looked awful swinging.

Russell has not been the same since making the All-Star game a couple of years back.  His production has been regressing.

Billingsley won 9 games to start the season.  Was it his leg injury that stopped him in the second half?

Broxton will be fine.   Even with his blown save, I’ll take him.  He will get better but you do need a short memory.

Kemp and Ethier are progressing nicely but can Kemp learn to be more patient at the plate?

Who’s on second?   I think we saw the last of Hudson so I am glad that he homered.   So who plays second  Hu?, DeWitt.   BTW, how is Ivan DeJesus progressing?   he had a bad break (leg) back in Spring Training.

Loney needs to step it up.   We need more power from a first baseman.

We need an ACE starter who can go deep into a game.

Bullpen was great up until facing the Phillies but they were overworked.

Who do we bring back?  Wolf, Garland or Padilla?

What is going to happen now that the McCourts are splitting?  oh oh, what a way to start the hot stove with Frank McCourt firing the CEO, Jaime McCourt.

Waiting anxiously for the first NLCS game between the Dodgers and the Phillies

I am starting to get nervous.  I get like that before big games and the closer it gets to Thursday, the more nervous I will be.  I need to relax.  Looking at our beautiful Dodger Stadium always relaxes me…(pic taken from my seat).oct 09 D.S.jpg

And also looking at the sunset from there (pic taken from Top Deck by me).

Ok, I am ready for the Dodgers facing the Phillies.

Who will start the first game?

will it be Chad Billinsley

Or will it be lefty  Randy Wolf

Or will it be lefty Clayton Kershaw

Will Kuroda be activated

Or will it be Vicente Padilla

I laughed when I saw this pic that I found from MSTI’s blog.

Bring it on Phillies!!

 Dodger Stadium will be rocking!

LET’S GO DODGERS!! LET’S GO!!!

I need this today

But no worries, sunny skies are predicted by Thursday and Friday.

All this TBA is driving me crazy!

We Took 2 out of 3 from the Phillies! Next: The Marlins!

We took 2 out of 3 from the Defending World Champions Phillies!

I was worry about the trip to Philadelphia. How would my Dodgers do? Can they win consistently without Manny? Would James Loney and Russell Martin start picking up the pace? Well, they did!. James Loney hit two homeruns in Philadelphia. Russell started hitting better. Casey Blake hit  his 7th home run. Not bad for a guy hitting 8!   Wolf “El Lobo” got his win against his old team. Billz has been pitching lights out although Jonathan Broxton could not save the win for him. Jonathan got the cheap win. I wish there was a way for Billz who only allowed 3 hits and 1 run in 7 innings to get the win but those are the rules.

On to Florida to play at ::looks for the new name of the stadium: Land Shark Stadium.  what is that story behind that name? The times for the 3 game series are: Friday 4:10 P.T., Saturday 3: P.T., Sunday 10:10 P.T.

At first I was “why the 3: P.T time? I went back to the Dodgers scheduled and it says

@ FLA

3:10 PM

KCAL

MLB.TV

Broadcast joined in progress

What is up with that?????????

Well, I learned that Saturday afternoons have been FOX’s exclusive territory for years – there’s a national blackout between the hours of 1pm and 4pm western time.  If any team wanted to start a game in the blackout period, they’d be unable to broadcast the game until the blackout ended -

So Saturday we start watching the game in what?  the 4th inning?   Oh and the reason for the early start?   A concert of some sort. Thanks a lot Marlins.

.

In the meantime.. Good luck Dodgers!  Good Luck Stults!
