From Koufax to Kershaw: What an Opening Day at Dodger Stadium
What an Opening Day at Dodger Stadium! All Opening Days are special. We await them with so much anticipation. What an Opening act with Sandy Koufax throwing out the first pitch and Orel Hershiser catching him.

Magic walks to the mound to throw out the first pitch

But wait! Here comes Mattingly to lift Magic for Sandy Koufax

Orel Hershiser said on Twitter: “What a day! To have Sandy throw the first pitch. To catch it and Thank him for all he taught me, was a moment I will never forget”
Sandy into his windup, here is the pitch….

Got to say Vin Scully still enjoys baseball.

We went into Dodger Stadium with big smiles. We came out still smiling after that incredible Opening game. I did not even mind the long wait for the shuttle after the game.

Opening Week 2012 at Dodger Stadium
Opening Day was a beautiful day. As is my tradition every year, Nancy Bea Cd played in the background while I got ready to go to Dodger Stadium. I drove to Union Station and hopped on the shuttle from there. My brother Vic and took the first shuttle at 9:45 AM. We got to Dodger Stadium at 10 AM. Game time was 1:10 PM. I heard of other people driving or taking the shuttle late and it took them an hour to get there from downtown. While waiting for the shuttle I heard about Vin Scully not being able to make it to the stadium.
Get well Vin Scully! We Love you!!
I had seen Vin Scully in San Diego and he looked good there but those colds cn sneak up on you. When I ran into him I told him “Good to see you Vin!” He looked back, smiled and said “Good to see you too!” I did not want to bother him so I did not ask for autograph or a picture. He responding to me was good enough for me.
Back to Opening Day! I took out my brand new scorebook and started keeping score. One thing I don’t like about it, is it does not have the little squares to keep track of balls and strikes but I sneak them in there. My outfit for Opening Day was one that I wore in San Diego -The Magic Johnson yellow shirt with my #32 Sandy Koufax white jersey over it. They both wore #32. The only thing with the shirt is that is the same color as the Pirates.

Picture from the LA Times. Nice man to my right with the grey Clayton Kershaw jersey. He liked that I was keeping score. He wrote the name of my blog.

Dodger Stadium celebrating 50 years on its inagural day of April 10, 1962 had members of that year being honored. It would have been great for Vin Scully to introduce them as Opening Day has been the only day that Vin Scully addresses the crowd at the stadium. Pic by Jon SooHoo.

The Beach Boys , also celebrating 50 years, sang one song and the National Anthem. Pic by Jon SooHoo

Our lefty Clayton Kershaw went seven strong innings. He left with no decision. @Skinnyswag_ Dee Gordon continues making the games excting. I love this team! Pic by Jon SooHoo

Andre Ethier in his 30th birthday hit a homerun to right field! in the 8th. Kenley Jansen pitched the 8th and Javy in the 9th for the save! Did I say that I love this team? Pic byLa Times.

Dodgers celebrating the win on Opening Day!
Chad Billingsley pitched the second game. He had another great game and another win.
Dodgers going for the sweep tonight 30% chance of rain with those chances increasing into the night BUT It can’t rain. It never rains in Calfiornia. haha. Just in case, I got my raincoat. Go Dodgers!

I kept getting texts that I was on TV.

My cousin Edgar’s wife Jeannie tagged me on this picture that she took of the TV screen

I was having a hard time with my camera. Jon SooHoo of Dodgersphotog.mlblogs.com told me I bounced the camera too many times. Actually it started working better after I had him look at it. Still, I did not take good pictures from afar but luckly my friend Lorena did so I am sharing her pictures:
Opening Day at Petco. Second time Lorena and I go to Petco Park Opening Day against the Dodgers. First time was in 2009.

SkinnySwag! Dee Gordon. I saw him after the game and I told him I have him in my fantasy Baseball team. He said “I am not doing too well” I said that is OK, to early. Lorena pointed to her heart and said “We Love you!” The following day I saw him again after the game and he had done so good that I stopped him and excitedly I told him “You did great today Dee!” He in turned gave me a hug and told me “Thank you ma’am” that so cute of him.

Clayton Kershaw was fighting the stomach flu but he insisted to Mattingly that he still wanted to pitch on Opening Day. He could only go three innings because of the stomach flu. He also collected the first hit for the Dodgers with a double. his ERA: 0.00 and his batting average: 1.000.
Because of the day off today, Kershaw is starting the Home Openner tomorrow afternoon.

Josh Lindblom came in after Kershaw and collected the win. Javy Guerra got the save. Thanks Lorena for the pictures.

Happy Opening Day Eve! Happy Opening Day Eve! Happy Opening Day Eve! Can’t wait to be at Dodger Stadium tomorrow!
‘ITwas the Night Before Opening Day
‘Twas the night before Opening Day, when all through the park
not a creature was stirring, not even a lark
The bats were hung by the helmets with care,
In hopes that the Dodgers soon would be there
The fans were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of a parade danced in their heads;
While Lorena had tweeted that she was loading the MLB At Bat App
I settled down to take a short nap
When out on the field there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.
Away to Petco Park we flew like a flash,
Drove up I-5 almost near crashed.
The MLB Bloggers were blogging like there was no tomorrow
While Padre fans drank Coronas; drowning their sorrows,
When, my wondering eyes saw the mound and the bases
It was Clayton Kershaw, the CY Young of 2011 aces,
With a smooth young coach acting so calmly
I knew in a moment it must have been Mattingly.
More rapid than the Eagles his courses they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;
“Now Kemp! now, Ethier! now, Dee Gordon and Loney!
On, Javy, on Jansen! and hopefully Billingsley!
Can’t wait till Thursday; Opening Day is the reason
“Good luck to my Dodgers and to the fans a great-season.”

Tommy Lasorda (2) days till Dodgers Opening Day at Petco Park
Tommy Lasorda (2) days till Dodgers Opening Day at Petco Park!
One of the topics last month for our monthly company meeting in the cafeteria was talking about the company 2012 season tickets. They started with:
Our Meeting with Tommy
First we told Tommy we wanted free tickets
Finally we sent our chief negotiator and got them down to $$
They were only looking for pictures of Tommy but the guy doing that part of the presentation was surprised to find a picture of Tommy with me. He decided to use it. There are about 500 employees here so I had a few stop me asking me “So you know Tommy?” lol.
Charlie Dressen (7) days till Dodgers Opening Day at Dodger Stadium.
Charlie Dressen was a Brooklyn Dodgers coach from 1939 – 1946. He took over as manager in 1951. After leading the Dodgers to a World Sereis in 1952 and 1953 -but losing both times to the Yankees, he demanded a three-year contract from team principals Walter O’Malley and buzzie Bavasi. Instead, O’Malley fired him and replaced with Walter Alson, a man who would go on to manager the club for more than two decades, always on a one-year contract.
Freeway Series.
Is the Freeway Series with the Anaheim Angels. Dodgers lost the first game last night at Anaheim by the score of 12-3. Ugh.
I am going to tonight’s game but I can’t get there for batting practice. Kristen of http://blithescribe.mlblogs.com/ will be there. I’ll will try to go see her after I say hi to a lot of people at the stadium. I am excited to see Our Lady of Chavez Ravine again.

Happy Valentines Day 2012 Love is …. Dodger Blue!
Happy Valentines 2012 everyone! for me Love is Blue! Dodger Blue!

About a week before Valentines I received an email from the Dodgers asking permission if they could use this picture to promote the Valentine section in the Dodger Fan site for fans to send their picture. Of course I said yes. The picture is from the Dodger Caravan 2010. One of the stops was at Chicken and Waffles. Lady Gaga had shown up at the restaurant that day. Also Barry Bonds picked the same day to show up . He only made it to the parking lot. He got mad when someone asked him to sign a baseball on the sweet spot.
If you scroll to the beginning of the pictures here http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/la/fan_forum/valentine_photos.jsp you will see my picture with Jaime Jarrin. I love it! My friend Lorena took the picture!

I just paid for Opening Day tickets in San Diego for Lorena and I thanks to my friend Mike who is a season ticket holder for the Padres!
I can’t wait to be at Camelback Ranch! Lore and I will be there for the St Patrick Weekend and we are thinking of going March 3rd for the Dodgers White Sox FanFest there. Spring is in the air!

Thoughts and Prayers to Bryan Stow
My thoughts and prayers go to Giant fan Bryan Stow who is fighting for his life in a coma after he was beaten at Dodger Stadium on Opening Day.
At the moment we cannot post pictures since the MLB blog is under construction so here is the link of the sketch of the two guys that assaulted Bryan Stow. The suspects are believed to be between 18 to 25 years.
update: Picture is working now.
I hope they find the two criminals that did this to this poor guy.
At this time, the reward is up to 50,000. Dodgers Spokesman Josh Rawitch said Monday the team will contribute $25,000. Giants spokeswoman Staci Slaughter said the team will pledge $10,000.
Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich previously offered a reward of $10,000 for information leading to arrests in the beating case.
American Medical Response, the paramedic company Stow worked for, is also offering a $5,000 reward.
