When CCompe1 (Carol) posted in the ITD blog, it reminded me of this email I got from Andy of www.Andystadium.com. I had commented on his blog before and he in turn has visited my blog. During Fan Appreciation Day, I was making my rounds at each level. I had gone to see Carol and her mom but my visit was brief as the seats around were taken so I could not stay. This is what I received from Andy:
Hi Emma. Thanks for emailing me. That was the 3rd game of the season that I attended and Ted Lilly was the starting pitcher in all three. It’s funny because I didn’t plan it that way. In fact, the tickets were free because we’d gotten some free ticket vouchers at the Casey Blake signing in Pasadena earlier this season. So Ted Lilly won two of the three games we attended.
We sat in Reserved Level Section 1. You (I hope it was you, lol) were talking to a lady in the aisle seat in Row M of our section, I think. It does look like you were making the rounds visiting friends. I love your Jackie Robinson jersey. We were in Row 0, right in the middle of the row. I wanted to go over to introduce myself but I didn’t want to inconvenience other people to stand up so I could go up the stairs–I had already done that several times earlier.
I had always wanted to meet you and Roberto and other Dodger bloggers and to take a group picture at the game–maybe next season! I’d also like us to be featured in next year’s year-end Dodgers “Thank You Fans” video. Wouldn’t that be cool?
Anyways, I’ve attached the picture. It is you, isn’t it?
Yep, that was me with my game used Jackie Robinson jersey and the giveaway “this is my Town” floppy hat.
I hope to meet you next year Andy! Let me know when you are at our Blue Heaven on Earth.
Is ironic that all three homeruns in the first game of the NLCS were hit by Ex Dodgers, two by Cody Ross and one by Jason Werth. thanks NEd Colletti. This series is tied at one.
Cliff Lee was brilliant in game 3 of the ALCS against the Yankees. He gave up two hits and struckout 13. Texas leads the series two games to one.
Early games on Tuesday so I’ll be checking updates for the first one at work and hearing/tweeting the second one.
Philadelphia at San Francisco 4:19 ET PM FOX Hamels vs Cain
Texas at NY Yankees 8:07 ET PM TBS Hunter vs Burnett
Yeah, the Dodgers lost this game 11-0. Cliff Lee was unhittable. Kuroda did not have it and our bullpen got hit. Ouch! BUT there got to be some positives in that game right?
- It only counts as one loss
- We got Wolf going tomorrow!
- We got to listen to Vin on the radio (or MLB audio) for 6 innings! (1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9)
- Manny got two hits so he is starting to hit, right?
- Billingsley looks like he could start a game back at Dodger Stadium
- Dodgers are the only team that have not committed an error.
OK, if I think of any more postivies, I’ll post them later.
Thank God we could listen to Vin Scully during this game. Here are some comments by Vin:
Afer a line drive that scored Carlos Ruiz to make the score 5 -0 Phillies, Vin said “I’ll be honest, the bell is not the only one with a crack on it.”
After Vinny reads a promo about a DODGERLIFE event that allows you to hit, throw, run, eat….swing for the fences…,he said
”I’ll tell you right now, is a heck of a time to read that promo. None of the things the Dodgers are doing right now.” LOL.
After the game was finally over:
“The Dodgers have been overwhelmed. tonight. If this was a heavyweights, well any kinda of weights, this would have been stopped a long time ago because the Dodgers have been on the ropes …They’ve been getting a pounding. ”
We love you vin!!
And we love our Dodgers because they may be bums, but they are our bums
Today is the anniversary of that famous home-run by Rick Monday in the NLCS series against Montreal!
Happy 28th anniversary Monday!
I’ve been so busy between work, home getting to the game as soon as the gates are open and leaving very late attending Dodger Talk. I have not posted in forever!
For those of you that do not know the Dodger Talk hosts, here is Josh Sushon and Ken Levine. Oh, forgot about that Penny’s bbh that a fan brought and smashed there.
We’ve seen two good games at Dodger Stadium. But wouldn’t you say that both games were left open to criticize the managers?
I know the first game many of us Dodger fans were saying “Why oh why did Torre leave Kershaw there too long?
Kershaw cruised along for the first 4 innings but the wheels fell off in the 5th where he allowed a single to Ibanez, a walk to Feliz, a homerun to Ruiz (can’t we get this guy out?) and a walk to none other than the pitcher! This is where Torre should have removed the kid. But NOOOO. Kershaw followed with two wild pitches, another walk(3 in the inning) and a double by Howard. That is when Torre decided to remove him and bring in Troncoso, who got Wearth to fly out to LF.
A friend was texting me afterwards telling me “let it go Emma, we’ll get them tomorrow.” So I stopped feeling blue and started thinking BLUE!
Game 2. It was so freaking hot for the 1:07 game time. Heck it was so hot the night before when I had taken my Dodger poncho. What was I thinking! Anyway, even in the Top Deck where you usually feel a breeze, there was none so you can imagine how it was sitting in the sun and on the field.
Remember the picture of the Dodger buckle I posted here. Well, Mike who sits to the left of me in the front row brought me more Dodger memorabillia that he wanted me to see. There is from right to left. A 1988 W.S. ring, 1988 money clip, belt buckle with snake skin, a 1988 W.S. belt buckle, Dodgers pin, 1988 W.S. pin, and another ring that lists all the Dodgers World Series the Dodgers have won.
Here is a clearer picture of the rings!
Thanks Mike for showing me your fabulous collection! Can you imagine Mike paid $6 a ticket for field level in aisle 15? Those might go for $100 now.
What a pitchers dual we were seeing on the field! An ex-Phillie and an ex-Dodger were putting a great performance on the field. The only score in 7 innings, was a home-run by Howard in the 4th.
In the eighth inning, Charlie Manuel batted for Martinez even though Martinez had given up two hits in 87 pitches. Dodgers could not have more thrilled to get Pedro off the mound.
What an eighth inning that was! Charlie Manuel used FIVE pitchers!
This is how it was(looking at my scorecard)
Single by Blake off Parks. Pierre (PR)
Single by Belliard
E4 on Martin (Utley airmailed the throw) Beliard out
Thome singles to right off Eyre, Martin to third.
Furcal walks off Madson
Kemp K’s on three pitches. Ugh!
Ethier works the count for a walk off Happ
The FIFTH pitcher, Durbin, quickly retires Manny on a pop to third.
And we happily sing “I LOVE LA!”
I don’t care what Jeff of RedStateBlueState say, Padilla is beautiful!!
Now on to Chilly Philly brrrr.
An a Little Child Shall Lead Them. I heard Vin Scully say that of players like Fernando Valenzuela.
Lefty 21 years old, Clayton Kershaw gets to start the first game of the NLCS.
The rest of the rotation is surprising. I was expecting another lefty in the second game.
Game 2 is Vicente Padilla.
Game 3. Hiroki Kuroda
Game 4. Randy Wolf.
I am having trouble with my laptop so I could not post this yesterday:
Happy belated birthday to John Wooden! He turned 99 yesterday!
I have seen John Wooden at Dodger Stadium catching a game and visiting with Vin Scully.
I was also lucky that I went to see John Wooden and Vin Scully last year at the ”Scully & Wooden For The Kids” event. It was an unforgetable night hearing Vin and Coach share their many stories.
Coach conversations always include inspiring poems he recites from memory. Here is one example:
“No written word nor spoken plea
Can teach our youth what they should be,
Nor all the books on all the shelves.
It’s what the teachers are themselves.”
Here is Vin Scully talking about John Wooden:
It is with great sadness that I heard the news of the McCourts separating. Timing is not good. The Dodgers have been a family owned team except for the Fox Sports era that was a fiasco.
Well, we got a game to play in less than 7 hours so let’s concentrate on the NLCS and beating the Phillies!
LET’S GO DODGERS! LET’S GO!
LET’S GO KERSHAW!!!
I am starting to get nervous. I get like that before big games and the closer it gets to Thursday, the more nervous I will be. I need to relax. Looking at our beautiful Dodger Stadium always relaxes me…(pic taken from my seat).
And also looking at the sunset from there (pic taken from Top Deck by me).
Ok, I am ready for the Dodgers facing the Phillies.
Who will start the first game?
will it be Chad Billinsley
Or will it be lefty Randy Wolf
Or will it be lefty Clayton Kershaw
Will Kuroda be activated
Or will it be Vicente Padilla
I laughed when I saw this pic that I found from MSTI’s blog.
Bring it on Phillies!!
Dodger Stadium will be rocking!
LET’S GO DODGERS!! LET’S GO!!!
I need this today
But no worries, sunny skies are predicted by Thursday and Friday.
All this TBA is driving me crazy!
