I have done haikus in the past but did not know about Tankas. Haikus are a three-line poem of 5/7/5 syllables. Tankas have two additional lines of 7 syllables so they are 5/7/5/7/7. I was reading the WordPress Monday writing challenge for this week to write a tanka or a set of tankas https://dailypost.wordpress.com/dp_writing_challenge/full-tanka/
Here it is what I came up with during Clayton Kershaw masterpiece performance yesterday at Dodger Dodger Stadium.
Kershaw on the mound
Pederson playing center
Good omen this night
First Major League hit for Joc
A single in the second!
The crowd is roaring
Kershaw wheeling and dealing
Cy Young performance
reached 200 K’s tonight
5th straight time in his career
Kershaw can hit too
With a single in the fifth
Daring base running
after a single by Dee
broke open the scoreless game
With Crawford on base Woo-Hoo!
score four to zero
but in the fifth Bryce homered
Only run Kershaw allowed
Kershaw 8 innings
3 hits, 1 earned run allowed

Kershaw wins his 17

El Niño de Oro, Clayton Kershaw is off the disabled list and back on the mound today against the Nationals. It was 1:21 A.M. when the game was over this morning at the Capital where the Dodgers were shutout 4-0 in a long rain delay
Dodgers are 4-3 on this road trip and 5-5 in the last 10.
Then Nationals are sending Right Handed Treinen.
Good luck Kershaw!
the skipper Kevin Kennedy is doing the radio game with Rick Monday today and tomorrow.
And Kershaw starts with a K. He retires the Nationals on 12 pitches. I am listening to the game.
I miss my boys in blue. I miss Dodger Stadium but they return home on Thursday for a seven game homestand. I don’t particular like four game series but the Dodgers will host the Giants for four and then the fishes come to town.
Thursday is Inflatable chair giveaway. First time the Dodgers do this. Saturday is the Old-timers game. OMG! I just saw the Dodgers tweet that Koufax will be at the Old-Timers game. Also, Fernando, Orel Hershiser & Gagne.
Here is the info:

I have been so busy lately that I have not updated my blog. I still need to upload the pictures from the Baseball Reliquary Induction Day. What an AWESOME day that was but first let’s get back to the Dodgers!
WOW!! They have won six in a row sweeping the Nationals and the Toronto Blue Jays! They scored 47 runs in those six games while giving up 22 runs.
The Dodgers were 9.5 games back June 22 and in 1st place July 22. Sixth team since 1969 to go from 9.5 back to 1st in 30 days.
They have gone from being in last place on June 22nd to first place by 1.5 games!
In the tradition of Walter O’Malley, Ice Cream for everyone!
The Dodgers arrived at LAX today about 3:45 a.m. Both Yasiel Puig and Adrian Gonzalez were tweeing when they landed at LAX. Why do they schedule night games like that on Getaway day when the team has a game the following day?
Tonight the Dodgers (53-47) start the homestand with the Cincinnati Reds (58-44)
Tonight is also Vin Scully bobblehead night! Naturally, the game is sold out.
Since is Throwback Thursday, the Dodgers posted this picture of a young Vin Scully.
Here how the bobblehead for tonight looks like:
I can’t wait to be back at OLOCR, Our Lady of Chavez Ravine!
The Boys are back in town! The Boys are back in town!!!!
The matchup: Latos 9-3 3.53 ERA against Greinke 8-2 3.36 ERA.
Friday night Kershaw went eight strong inning giving up two runs in the 6th from a walk to Werth and a homerun to LaRoche. He just left that pitch too high. Kenley Jansen pitched the 9th but he gave us a scare when Espinosa sent a ball that came within inches of not being foul.
Earlier in the day during batting practice, while talking to Rosa and Ronnie by the Dodgers bullpen, a BP ball landed in back of me. I was so happy to get it as it has the 50th anniversary logo
Also during BP, I heard a mom tell her kid that she forgot her phone so she could not take his picture. I offered to take a picture and I would send it to her. I was sitting in the field level during the game. This same kid kept coming down to ask for a baseball between innings. I told him if he wanted he could sit next to me. He went and asked his who gave him permission so I watched the game with him. He brought over his uncle’s Dodger hat to use to catch a baseball since he did not have a glove.
Little john told me he plays baseball and his team is undefeated 14-0. His mom had told me earlier that they were at the game to pay tribute to her dad who was a Dodger fan. Talking with the boy he told me they live up North. I asked if he was a Giant fan and he said yes but that he would not wear any Giant gear cause he did not want to get beat up. Sad. I told him he would not get beat up then I saw a guy with a Giant jacket and later a lady with a Giant shirt. I said “see, they are wearing Giant gear”
When I was seeing that he was not going to get a third out ball, I suggested to try at the end of the games with the umpires but to move a couple seats over the next aisle. He was only a few feets from me and I was keeping an eye on him. Well his mom comes down and she panicked not seeing him there, she said “WHERE IS MY SON?” I pointed to him (we were in the same row) and said that he had a better chance there to get a ball from the umps. Well, too many kids were in the dugout seat area so he did not get a ball. I reached in my bag for the batting practice ball I had gotten and gave it to him. He and his family thanked me. they did stay for the fireworks as they had an early flight back home.
I had to ask little John his favorite players. For the Giants: Buster Posey and for the Dodgers: Matt Kemp.
Looking at Jon SooHoo pictures blogs, I noticed he included a picture he took as he was going by during batting practice! I was sitting with June. Thanks Jon!
And here is another one. I think this is when I was going to take a picture of little John.
It was also Fireworks night. Here is another picture from Jon SooHoo.

OK, got to get ready to head to Dodger Stadium! Strasburg against Billingsley. Also Bryce Harper will make his major league debut at Dodger Stadium. Both the Dodgers and Nationals have identical records of 14-6. Let’s go Dodgers!
Dodgers score two touchdowns while the Nationals settle for a safety.
Hard to believe that with 14 runs, there was only one homerun (Casey Blake)
Maybe this was the game that Billingsley should have started!
Congratulations to Kuroda-san and the Dodgers on the win!
Dodgers magic number is
Seven is my lucky number!
Happy Birthday to our own Sweet Lou! Sweet Lou Johnson turned 75, September 22nd. I love seeing your smiling friendly face at the stadium Sweet Lou!
Johnson is most well known for his home run off Jim Kaat in Game 7 of the 1965 World Series that gave the Dodgers a lead they would never relinquish against the Twins.
Johnson also played a key role in another memorable win by Sandy Koufax that year.
During Koufax’s perfect game against the Cubs, on September 9, 1965, Johnson was the only batter from either team to reach base. He walked off Bob Hendley to start the fifth, advanced to second on a Ron Fairly sacrifice bunt, then stole third and scored when catcher Chris Krug’s throw went into left field. Johnson also doubled in the seventh inning, breaking up Hendley’s no-hitter.
Happy 25th Birthday to our centerfielder, The Bison, Matt Kemp!
We love you Matty!
Matt is having a fabulous year! He is batting .307, has 25 homeruns, 97 RBIs and has 34 stolen bases.
