Come Rain or Shine. Roy Campanella

I won a nano Ipod from KCAL during one of the Dodger telecast! I picked it up last week. Thank you KCAL!

So brother Vic loaded some music on my ipod.

I was listening to Nancy Bea’s rendition of Master of the House. She used to play it for Orel Hershiser and still does when he comes to Dodger Stadium.

The song right after from Nancy was “I get ideas when we are dancing” haha, I need ideas to post here.

The next song was from Frank Sinatra “Come Rain or Shine” It reminded me of my love for the Dodgers.

Days may be cloudy or sunny

We’re in, or we’re out of the money

But I’ll love you always

I’m with you rain or shine

Roy Campanella

So I was wondering if I should skip tonight game but not after reading Plaschke’s column here

From the article:

The Dodgers are bringing Campy back, and good for them. In a Dodger Stadium ceremony before their game with the San Diego Padres, they will make two contributions to the Roy and Roxie Campanella Physical Therapy Scholarship Endowment at Cal State Northridge. They will donate money to the fund, and a seasonal internship in their medical department for a student from Northridge’s renowned physical therapy department.

Joni Campanella Roan, his daughter, is expected to be on the field to accept the gifts. She will be joined by a most stirring bit of Dodgers memorabilia, her father’s empty wheelchair. For one night, Campy will be back in front of a crowd he moved without moving, in a house that he helped build even though he never played an inning there.

55 since ’55 Poster Night Featuring Vin Scully!

Two shutout by Dodger pitchers in the last two nights!  and tonight is the 55 since ’55 Poster Night featuring Vin Scully!   I am very excited about getting this poster and about the festivities tonight!

Here is what is in stored as reported in the Daily News at  http://www.dailynews.com/news/ci_15585735

The first 20,000 fans entering Dodger Stadium will receive a poster featuring the team’s celebration and a picture of a young Vin Scully and the words of his call of the final out. Scully will also utter his familiar, “It’s time for Dodger baseball,” live from the broadcast booth to the crowd, a role usually filled by a celebrity or child.

Don Newcombe, who won a team-high 20 games for the 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers, will throw out a ceremonial first pitch, with a home plate from Ebbets Field, the Dodgers’ home from 1913-57, used for the ceremony.

In another nod to the past, organ music performed by Nancy Bea Hefley will be played almost exclusively for the entire game, according to Josh Rawitch, the team’s vice president of communications.

Ralph Mauriello, a Brooklyn-born pitcher on the 1958 Dodgers, will sing the national anthem and “God Bless America.”

Fans sitting in the My Town section will receive Dodgertown Brooklyn T- shirts, with the “55 after 55″ patch the Dodgers have worn on their uniforms this season, and eat from an all-you-can-eat menu including Polish sausage sandwiches and soft pretzels.

the matchup:  Santana against Padilla.  Don’t you love that 50’s miles an hour curveball that Padilla throws!   You can hear the stadium crowds when he throws it.

Let’s Go Dodgers!

The 55 since ’55 also reminded me of this wonderful post from Mike:

http://thebrooklyntrolleyblogger.mlblogs.com/archives/2010/03/thank-you-crzblues-dodger-blue-world.html   Thank again Mike!

Let’s Get the W with Kershaw on the Mound!

I hear from several fans that they will stop going to games because of status of the Dodgers concerning the ownership but for me…

I am not willing to miss seeing Kemp, Ethier, Loney, Kershaw, Billz, Broxton and Russell, my favorites! Nope, I am not going to miss hearing Vin Scully at the games.

There is no better sound than when I walk inside Dodger Stadium and I listen to Nancy Bea in the background while I walk over to the bullpen area and I hear the sound the ball is making as it hit the mitt. The boys in Blue on the field hitting BP and the pitchers in the outfield catching some baseballs.

Vin already made my day last Sunday by smiling and waiving at my friend Erik and I when we greeted him and wished him to have a happy Easter.

Nope, no matter what, I will be at the stadium, day in and day out. Is is my happy home, it is my home away from home.

There is Sandy Koufax on this picture walking to the field. He is also on the big screen.

When I am at Dodger Stadium and I look to the field and then take the rest of the view from there with the mountains in the background, all is right with the world.

Yeah, there will be some games that I will be cursing under my breath, but they will others that will be exhilarating and no better way to share those moments than with my friends at the stadium.

Let the second game begin in Pittsburgh! We got 22-year old Clayton Kershaw going this evening.

For those giving Joe Torre a hard time for starting Padilla for the Opener on the road, I say to them, did you hear what Vin Scully said ? If you did not, here it is:

“In Showbiz you would say you are opening a big musical and you would say “Padilla, you are singing the lead in Hartford, Connecticut.  And you would say “Kershaw, you are singing the lead on Broadway.” “

Play Ball!

I love my Dodgers!

Vin Scully and Fans at Camelback Ranch

Tony Barrial started this on facebook:

Vinny’s 60th Dodger season deserves a salute. SO at the bottom of the 4th EVERY HOME GAME in 2010; before the Dodgers UP; All fans stand up, face the pressbox and chant Vinny until stadium is chanting and Nancy starts to play “It Had To Be You!”

Tony:  Is actually 61th Dodger season.
The fans started it last Sunday on Vin’s first game at Camelback!  I can’t wait to be at the Dodger Stadium so we can start the chant “Vinny, Vinny, Vinny…”

“I’m supposed to cut back on dangling participles and I’m not allowed to split any infinitives for at least another week,” Vin Scully told news reporters inside the Dodgers spring training complex in Glendale, Az.

Here is a picture as posted by the great Dodger photographer Jon So Hoo:

VIN SCULLY! WE LOVE YOU!!

Also, from my trip at Camelback a few weeks ago, here is a youtube of the Boilers Dodger club fans shot by Roberto of Vinscullyismyhomeboy  when I was at Camelback:

Earlier I had taken this picture outside by the roped area.

How the West was Won or Lost: Dodgers vs Rockies Take two!

My Friday evening started very nice with Tommy Lasorda being honored.  Before I went to the field level I ran into Nancy Bea (Dodger organist)  and her husband.  They are so sweet.  I run into them every once in a while in the club level.   I have a picture with her from a while back this time I wanted a picture with both of them. Nancy Bea and Husband.jpg\

Here is a picture of the Tommy Lasorda plaque giveaway:

Lasorda HOF plaque giveaway.jpg

Isn’t this a nice plaque?  this one is #5271 of 60K.

The Tommy celebration was wonderful.  Lots of filmage of his manager years.  There was this film of the Phillie Phanatic making fun of Tommy with a look-like Tommy inflatable doll where the Phllie Phanatic starts beating it up

Dave Raymond

Lots of players that played for Tommy in attendance like Steve Sax, Leary, Karros, Monday, Landreaux, Charlie Hugh, etc.  All were wearing their jerseys.

As everyone knows, Dodgers are still looking for that illusive win.  They have lost five in a row for the first time.   Manny struck out FOUR TIMES, all with runners in scoring position.   Casey Blake, who returned to the lineup also struck out FOUR TIMES.

The Dodgers 3-6 hitters were 0-14 with 9 strickouts.  Ouch!

Here is hoping and praying that  the Dodger bats wake up from their long long slumber zzz.

Can they do it? Tomorrow will be the best chance with Clayton Kershaw going for the Dodgers. Can Manny bounce back after a miserable week which has seen him go 0/10 with 8 strikeouts including his last six time at bat.

C’mon Keshaw!  I want to see that public enemy number pitch working!

Go Dodgers!!!

They may be bums, but they are my bums!!  Go Dodgers!!

Perfect 10 at Dodger Stadium…Billingsley a perfect 5-0

What a ride we’ve been having at OLOCR (Dodger Stadium)!!  We are a perfect 10-0 at home! and our young pitcher Billingsley is off to a great start with a perfect record of 5 wins, 0 losses!

Thursday, Jeff Weaver  was called back from Triple-A! .  He had to get to work right away as our young JMAC (James McDonalds) could not get out of the 2nd inning.   Jeff  had 4 scoreless innings with help of Matt Kemp great catches!  He will take over JMAC in the rotation so Jeff will start on Tuesday.  Welcome back and good luck guerito!!

Friday night I spent most of the game in the clubhouse restaurant/bar.   Interesting watching the game from there.   We met a season ticker holder that sits in the Reserved section.  After the win and since it was Friday, we watched the fireworks from there.  I think the best place to watch the fireworks though is from the Top Deck!   It was Las Vegas Fireworks Night so all the music was with a Las Vegas flavor.  Also during the game Nancy Bea_our organist, played Vegas related songs like “Luck Be the Lady Tonight”.  I found this youtube of Nancy playing “When I am 64″   Ok, so I forgot how to post youtubes so here is the link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bbhZP6FVfk

The video at the end reminded me that we no longer have the Trader Joe’s fan of the day.   I was selcted once. They also used to give you this cool  blue Hawaiian Dodger shirt and they used to send you the CD of the announcement.

Saturday night, Andre Ethier got a bases loaded single in the 10th inning!  Dodgers won 2-1.  Wolf pitched well but the win went to the bulpen.

Sunday Billingsley got his 5th win!!!    Congratulations Billz!

Carne Asada with Andre:  My friends and I headed downstairs to the terrace area in the Loge level where the event was taking place.  They had Carne Asada tacos, rice beans, different cilantro with chopped onions, cheese quesadillas and different kinds of salsas. Yum!!   There were mariaches and Andre Ethier posed for pictures.  We also got a signed picture of Andre.  Andre came with his wife Maggie, the baby and one of his brothers.  Proceeds from the event benefited the Dodgers Dream foundation.

Sad News:   Saturday night I found out we lost one of our “Top Deck family.”   Wesley was only 36.  I did not know he had a rare desease.  I remember one time when they showed highlights of Kirk Gibson’s Homerun, he said “I still get goose bumps  watching it” then he pointed to where he and his dad sat that day.  My deepest condolences to his parents James & Uni who are also part of the “Top Deck Family.”   R.I.P. Wesley.

Bluetopia Dodger movie

I was Thrilled that I was invited to this premiere on Saturday 4/18/09.   My friends and I were looking forward to see how the movie about the Dodgers and their fans turned out.  We got to see a lot of Tim Marx_the producer and his camera guys at the stadium and also on some road games during all of the 2008 season.

Players Chad Billinsgley who pitched a great game ealier in the day, Clayton Kershaw, Matt Kemp, James Loney and Andre Ethier attended the event. Also in attendance were  Charlie Steiner, Rick Monday, Dr Steinberg, Pepe Yniguez, Josh Rawitch,Dennis Manion and organist Nancy Bea.    My friends and I had a picture taken with Matt Kemp.  Matt was very friendly talking with all the fans that attended the event.  I talked with Andre’s wife asking her how was her baby.  She told me her father in law was taking care of the baby.   James Loney was running late so we just went inside and took a sit in the front where friends of ours were reserving our seats.

We Loved the movie!  We relived the 2008 season, we laughed, cheered and I got chocked up during several parts of the movie   We already knew that we were not the only crazy passionate Dodger fans but it was nice to confirm that there are a lot of us around.   We applauded at the end and we started a chant “LET’S GO DODGERS!”.

Here is the movie poster that was in display at the premiere

Eutopia pic 7 poster.jpgHere is Tim

Here is Tim Marx, the producer.  You can’t see it too well, but  I have Dodger earrings, a baseball bracelet,  a silver and Blue LA pin and a Dodger bag that Debie Little sent me in the mail when Grady Little was with the team.   She sent me a note with it thanking me for filling out two boxes of ballots for Russell Martin.

Bluetopia pic6.JPG

Here is Matt Kemp.  A fan that always paints his face is in the background.  He comes out in the movie saying “this is my church!.”   Yeah baby!  You got that right!  Dodger Stadium is our church!

Erik and I are posing here with one of the Dodger ambassadors.  I love that all the male ambassadors were wearing vintange Dodger uniforms.  Jordan is wearing Duke Snider’s number.

The following day when my friends and I got to the stadium early for BP, a gentleman asked   me where my 70’s outfit was (see my post on the 70’s Fireworks).     Well, we started talking to him and then we noticed that he was wearing a tag wtih the last name Ethier.  We did not know that we were talking to Andre’s dad!     I told him  “You were taking care of the baby Saturday night!.”    We stayed there for a little while talking to him about the team, players, Andre, road trips and speeding tickets in Arizona (he lives in AZ).
