Dodgers at PNC during G-20 Summit

After being at Washington DC my Dodgers have to deal with the security in Pittsburgh as a result of the G-20 Summit.   My poor babies!  Traveling secretary Scott Akasaki had to make special arrangements

From Dylan Hernandez of the L.A. Times

A ban on incoming private charter flights to Pittsburgh was imposed by the Secret Service and Major League Baseball had to receive a special waiver so the Dodgers could get into town.  The waiver was granted under the condition that the Dodgers would hve to go through TSA lines at Washington Dullies Aiport and have their bags sniffed by bomb-sniffing dogs.

Akasai told players that they culdn’t carry alcohol or cologne in their carry-on baggage.

Because of the various checkpoints, Akasaki booked rooms at a hotel on the outskirts of the designated security zones instead of at the regular team hotel in the heart of downtown.  But there is expected to be added security in the new hotel, as it is housing the French, German and Turkish delegations at the G-20.

So with all this security, expect a smaller crowd than usual at PNC tonight.  I made my first trip to PNC last year.  It is such a beautiful stadium.  Here is a picture

I love Jerry Crowe from the L.A. Times.  Here is what he wrote this morning:

For those who can’t get enough of Tim McCarver -anybody?_the Fox baseball analyst has released a music CD, “Tim McCarver Sings the Great Ameerican Songbook.”…

One of the songs he tackles is “There Used to be a Ballpark,” which will remind no one of Frank Sinatra’s version….

LOL

Congratulations to Matt Kemp  on his 100 RBI plateau!

Good Luck Garland!   Let’s Go Dodgers!

Magic number:

.

Dodgers score Two Touchdowns while the Nationals get the Safety.

Dodgers score two touchdowns while the Nationals settle for a safety.

Hard to believe that with 14 runs, there was only one homerun (Casey Blake)

Maybe this was the game that Billingsley should have started!

Congratulations to Kuroda-san and the Dodgers on the win!

Seven!

Seven is my lucky number!

lou_johnson_large[1].jpgHappy Birthday to our own Sweet Lou! Sweet Lou Johnson turned 75, September 22nd.  I love seeing your smiling friendly face at the stadium Sweet Lou!

Johnson is most well known for his home run off Jim Kaat in Game 7 of the 1965 World Series that gave the Dodgers a lead they would never relinquish against the Twins.

Johnson also played a key role in another memorable win by Sandy Koufax that year.

During Koufax’s perfect game against the Cubs, on September 9, 1965, Johnson was the only batter from either team to reach base.  He walked off Bob Hendley to start the fifth, advanced to second on a Ron Fairly sacrifice bunt, then stole third and scored when catcher Chris Krug’s throw went into left field.  Johnson also doubled in the seventh inning, breaking up Hendley’s no-hitter.

Happy 25th Birthday to our  centerfielder, The Bison, Matt Kemp!

We love you Matty!

Matt is having a fabulous  year!  He is batting .307, has 25 homeruns, 97 RBIs and has 34 stolen bases.

Andre Ethier and Matt Kemp: Double Trouble

The September issue of the Dodgers Magazine has Andre Ethier and Matt Kemp on the cover with the words: “Double Trouble.”    These two have been the offense of the team.   Here is the picture I took of the magazine:

Ethier and Kemp from mag.jpg

Great job with the picture on the cover and the ones inside the magazine.  It is an outstanding article with interviews from other baseball players and fans about these two!

I know Ethierholics and Happy Kempers will be very happy with this issue!

Andre Ethier  is leading the team in Homeruns with 27 and RBIs with 88.  He also has 36 doubles.

Matt Kemp is right behind Andre in RBIs with 87, he has 23 Homers, 22 doubles and 29 stolen bases.

Both of them are great defensive players covering Bison County and Ethierland.  These are names we fans have tagged to center field and right field.

This is what Manny says in the article about them:  “Both of them have tremendous talent.  Ethier has a lot of power and he is a great fielder.  Matt Kemp is a tremendous player and his power is still developing.”

Local boy Jon Garland makes his debut as a Dodger against his old team the Diamondbacks.  Originally Garland was scheduled to pitch for his old team.  The D’backs will counter with Billy Buckner.  Jon Garland’s grandpa used to have season tickets to the Dodgers!

Dodgers Wolfman and Knuckleballer too much for Cubs

Randy Wolf
knocks in the only two runs and throws seven brilliant innings on Friday!   What a great early birthday present he gave himself!  Randy Wolf’s birthday was Saturday 8/22.   He along with Jeff Weaver share a birthday.  they both turn 33.

Saturday was a Fox sport game and what a performance by the knucleballer Charlie Haeger!  He baffled the Cubs.   Charlie went seven innings.  Closer Jonathan Broxton came in in the eight but Joe Torre explained that it was only so Broxton could face the same guys he faced the prior night.  George Sherrill closed the game in the nine.  Final score: Dodgers 2, Cubs 0.   The two runs came as a result of two homeruns, one by Casey Blake and Matt Kemp. . Speaking of Kemp…

MATT KEMP.   Wow Matt!  Matt Kemp hit one out of the ballpark!  It went out of the Dodger bullpen.  I could see fan running in front of the gift shop in that area after the ball.   The ball travelled 449 feet.

Prior to that there have been only three players that have hit homeruns out of Dodger Stadium.  They are:

Willie Stargell is the only person to ever hit two home runs out of Dodger Stadium. His first was a 506 foot bomb off of pitcher Alan Foster on August 5th 1969, and the other was a 470 foot shot off of Andy Messersmith on May 8th 1973.

It wasn’t for over 30 years before Mike Piazza became the second player and only Dodger (until yesterday) to ever hit a home run out of the park. On September 21st 1997, Mike Piazza hit a 478 foot home run off of San Francisco Giant pitcher Mike Lansing.

July 17th 1998, Mark McGwire hit the longest home run at 511 ft over the right field pavilion at Dodger Stadium against pitcher Brian Bohanon.

Meet one of our ushers in the Top Deck:  Leonard is a true Dodger fan!  Check out his tatoo!

First Game against the Cubs and THINK CURE Weekend!

First of all, great win last night against the Cubs!   Weaver who started for the injured Hiroki Kuroda, kept us in the game going 51/3 innings.  His ERA as a starter is now 3.13.  Good job Weaver!!   Russell who has been struggling, hit a grand slam in the 6th!    We asked for a curtain call.   Keep it going Russ!

At 8:09 PM,  I get a message  that there is a new comment in my blog.  The message was from ADucker at http://dodgerstrends.mlblogs.com/  If you have not checked his blog, check it out!  He gives some great analysis with supporting statistics!.    I have never met ADucker who lives in Delaware, but I guess he has seen a few of my pictures.   anyway he posted the following comment:

I think I just saw you at the game on TV, Emma.  In the 2nd inning with Furcal at the plate on ball 3 to make it a 3-2 count the camera shows either you or your twin sitting next to a young kid with a white shirt. I took a screen capture of it just for fun.

I was like Wow!   that is funny!  Here is the screen picture:

emma at 082009 game against Cubs.jpgYep!  that is me to the left of Kemp.  Notice Tommy in the bottom right corner.  Thanks ADucker!

Dodgers seeing Snakes. Kemp and Vin Scully Videos!

Dodgers seeing Snakes.

A good matchup with Clayton Kershaw and Dan Haran turned the Snake way.   Kershaw was  so wild  in the 2nd inning with a 35-pitch four-run inning that included three walks, two wild pitches and three hits including one an RBI single by pitcher Dan Haren. He did struck out nine in 4 1/3 innings.

HBP:  Reynolds got hit by Bellisario. Ethier got hit by Haran.  Both clubs were warned.

Torre:  Why is Kemp hitting 7th??.   If you had Kemp and Manny back to back we could have had more runs.   Why is Russell hitting 2nd??   You just got to bat Russell and Loney lower.

Donny:   Are you working with these guys (Russ and Loney)?   These two need to step it up and start hitting!

Manny got 2 singles and a double while Matt Kemp got a HR and a double!  Way to go boys!  Speaking of Matt Kemp, here is a picture I spotted at Union Station:

Breakfast, Photo Day, Game Day & Bluetopia Movie.

What a busy Saturday!   It all started with meeting at 9:am for breakfast at Barragans on Sunset, five minutes away from Dodger Stadium.    Here is the restaurant’s breakfast sign outside.

OLOCR first homestand 2009 066.jpg

Here is the regular menu and menu special with a Dodger hat we put there.

OLOCR first homestand 2009 067.jpg

Here are the dishes we were having:  Chilaquiles and huevos rancheros.   Bloody Marys are $2.50 and they are good so are the dishes.   For those that might not know  Chilaquiles is a combo of crispy corn tortillas cooked with eggs, chopped  tomatoes, onions and jalapenos serve with sour cream, rice and beans.   yum.  It was good!

After a hearty breakast we were ready to head to the stadium for photo day.   Here is a picture of my friend Erik & I while we waited for the players.   I found I heart Dodgers banner a couple of years back at a local antique.

Billingsley picked up his 3rd win even though the Rockies were getting him into deep counts.   Manny along with Ethier went yard with two homeruns!

BLUETOPIA

The day was topped by watching the Dodger premiere movie “Bluetopia”.   Tim Marx did a wonderful job of capturing the fans love for our beloved Dodgers.  I laughed, I cheered  and got choked up watching it.   James Loney, Billingsley, Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier and Kershaw attended.    I’ll say more later about the event.  I am glad that I got to go and sit with my friends that I have made because of our love for our Dodgers.
