OMG! Sandy Koufax at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live

Thumbnail image for Honoree-Sandy-Koufax.jpgA friend on the train was reading the L.A. Times sport section before me and he tells me “Emma, did you know that Sandy Koufax will be at the Nokia Theatre?”    I was like “OMG! OMG!”   Yeah.. they looked at me weird.  Well, I told them, you could get excited about a concert.  I can get excited about this!

18 months ago (before I started this blog), there was similar  event at the Nokia Threatre put together by T.J. Simers of the L.A. Times to benefit Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and Mattel Children’s Hospital at UCLA.  The speakers were Vin Scully and John Wooden.   The minute I found out about it, I purchased my ticket for that event!   It was a night that I will never forget.

Once again, T.J. Simers will moderate a conversation, this time with Sandy Koufax and Joe Torre.

As soon as  I got to work, I ordered my ticket for this event on Saturday February 27.   Actually, there was an email waiting for me  that I could purchase tickets prior to the general public sale because I had purchased the the Scully/Wooden event.

Sandy Koufax!  OMG!    The money raised will go to Safe At Home, Torre’s foundation to end the cycle of domestic abuse.    Ticket prices go from $25 to $200.

Joe Torre who is in shock that Sandy accepted said “I didn’t think he would,”   “This really is a friend indeed.  He said he would do it for me and I’ touched.”

I am so looking forward to this!

p.s.  I was preparing to blog about something else, but it can wait, besides is taking a little longer to prepare that cause I have to look into a lot of MLB players bio.

 Sandy Koufax!   OMG!

Dodgers at PNC during G-20 Summit

After being at Washington DC my Dodgers have to deal with the security in Pittsburgh as a result of the G-20 Summit.   My poor babies!  Traveling secretary Scott Akasaki had to make special arrangements

From Dylan Hernandez of the L.A. Times

A ban on incoming private charter flights to Pittsburgh was imposed by the Secret Service and Major League Baseball had to receive a special waiver so the Dodgers could get into town.  The waiver was granted under the condition that the Dodgers would hve to go through TSA lines at Washington Dullies Aiport and have their bags sniffed by bomb-sniffing dogs.

Akasai told players that they culdn’t carry alcohol or cologne in their carry-on baggage.

Because of the various checkpoints, Akasaki booked rooms at a hotel on the outskirts of the designated security zones instead of at the regular team hotel in the heart of downtown.  But there is expected to be added security in the new hotel, as it is housing the French, German and Turkish delegations at the G-20.

So with all this security, expect a smaller crowd than usual at PNC tonight.  I made my first trip to PNC last year.  It is such a beautiful stadium.  Here is a picture

I love Jerry Crowe from the L.A. Times.  Here is what he wrote this morning:

For those who can’t get enough of Tim McCarver -anybody?_the Fox baseball analyst has released a music CD, “Tim McCarver Sings the Great Ameerican Songbook.”…

One of the songs he tackles is “There Used to be a Ballpark,” which will remind no one of Frank Sinatra’s version….

LOL

Congratulations to Matt Kemp  on his 100 RBI plateau!

Good Luck Garland!   Let’s Go Dodgers!

Happy St Patrick Day everyone!

A toast also to the O’Malleys and the McCourts!

The O’Malleys used to have this elaborate parties on ST. Patrick’s day.  you can read about them here

St Parick’s day in the O’Malley Days

I like the menu items from the O’Malleys St Patrick parties:

Quote:
clever menus were concocted based on the names of Dodger players, coaches and executives: Oysters O’Zark, Alston mixed salad without Dressen, Corn O’Sorda, Soft Drink O’Drysdale, Scully onions, Andy High balls, Podres pudding, O’Porter potatoes, Milk O’Davis and DeLury Lima Beans…

Here is what I am wearing today but notice my blue nails :-)
