Kershaw, Dodgers, Renewing my Season Tickets

If you know me, you know I am a little forgetful.  Tuesday evening  I realized that my season tickets were due last Friday January 10.  Right away I tried to log on and pay online but I could not get my password and username to work.  I selected “forgot password” to get an email but that did not work.  I never got an email.  Anyway, I fired an email Tuesday night to PLEASE CALL ME.   The following day I called the STH number.  I heard Vin Scully and Charlie Steiner call a play so many times that I kept call it along with them.  I was afraid that because I had not paid my tickets on time,  I had lost my two seats in the Top Deck.  Needless to say I was relieved when the Dodgers confirmed my seats for another season.

The day only got better when it was announced that Kershaw and the Dodgers had come to an agreement!   YES!  Mr. Sunshine will continue to be a Dodger.   The seven-year contract is worth $215 million.

I was reading Bill Shaikin this morning in the LA Times.   BTW, I don’t read the paper on-line,  my paper gets delivered before I leave the house so I read it on the train on my way to work but here is the link to the article http://www.latimes.com/sports/baseball/mlb/dodgers/la-sp-dodgers-kershaw-shaikin-20140116,0,3972240.story#ixzz2qaGvF5r7

I like this from the article:

Walter declined to confirm the $215-million deal — the Dodgers are expected  to make an announcement Friday — but he was succinct in explaining why he would  even consider approving it.

“Greg Maddux,” Walter said.

Walter lives in Chicago, where the Cubs  abandoned Maddux to free agency in 1992, when he was 26. He had just won the Cy  Young Award. He won the next three years too — for the Atlanta Braves.

In the 21 years since they let Maddux go, the Cubs have won one postseason  series. In Walter’s first full year of ownership, the Dodgers won one postseason  series.

Kershaw is coming off his second Cy Young Award, the first pitcher since  Maddux to lead the major leagues in earned-run average in three consecutive  years. Kershaw would have hit free agency next fall, at 26.

Great points by Bill Shaikin and the Silver Fox, Mark Walter.

p.s.  This is my 600th post!  February 13, it will be my five-year blog anniversary!

Congratulations to Clayton Kershaw: 2013 Cy Young Award Winner

Remember back in March of this year when Clayton Kershaw was on the cover of Sports illustrated this year?

some fans thought it would be bad luck.  I remember back in March hunting down for the magazine.  Some had a different cover but I found copies in Northridge for myself, Lorena and Rosie.  Well it was not bad luck for Kershaw to be on the cover.   With a record of 16-9, and an ERA of 1.83, he won the National League Cy Young Award.  Congratulations Mr. Sunshine.

When Kershaw won the award in 2011, he had a record of 21-5 with an ERA of 2.28.  After the announcement in 2011, the Dodgers invited Season Ticket holders to join in the celebration on the field.  I had taken the train to work but when I got the email, I borrowed the work company car and I went to the event.  What a fun day at the stadium that was!  Don Newcombe & Fernando Valenzuela were also there.

Only Sandy Koufax and Kershaw have won more than one Cy Young award with the Dodgers.   Sandy did it in 1963, 1965 & 1966.

The first recipient of the Cy Young award was Don Newcombe in 1956.  For the first eleven years (1956 – 1966) only one winner from Major League Baseball was selected.

Don Newcombe went 27-7 with a 3.06 ERA in 1956 to capture the Cy Young

I have been very busy that I have not updated my blog lately.  I hope to get back on track.   I may not be posting as often but I am always thinking Blue and following any baseball news.  I am currently reading the book “It Pays to Steal”  by Mauy Wills.

I drove to work Monday because the traffic was going to be lighter on Veterans Day and because I had made an appointment to cut my hair and color it.   Since I was going to be there a little longer than just getting a haircut, I took the book with me.   Well, I forgot the book there.  I had rented the book from the Los Angeles Central library.  I had to drive the following day (I usually take the train to work)  to go pick up the book.

On my way home I was thinking… They don’t know I am a big Dodger fan and a baseball fan.   I don’t think they follow the game. What did they think when they read the book title  “It Pays to Steal.”    I  know I had the bookmark  on chapter 9 “Formula for success”…. Maybe when I go back I will ask Carmen what they thought when they read the title.

2013 NLDS: Dodgers vs Braves. Let’s Go Dodgers!

I am super excited for this series! The day is finally here! Thursday at 5:30 PM PT at Turner Field. Kershaw 16-9 1.83 ERA will face Medien 15-12 3.11 ERA.

I leave work via Metrolink train so when I leave I will have my headphones listening to the game. I should have a “Do Not Disturb” sign. As I am typing this, this co-worker that is a Giant fan is talking to another co-worker telling him “I’ll be rooting for the Braves” then he looks at me doing the tomahawk chant. UGRR I hate that.

This morning on the train I open the LA Times and went thru the whole sport section seeing no mention of the Dodgers. Then I kept looking thru the paper until I found this special Dodger Section!

LA Times special Dodger playoff section!

Last night I stopped at the Olvera Street church. La Placita to light a candle for the Dodgers

Afterwards, Lorena noticed that the candle that I lid (right), is the one for Saint Judas Tadeo, el santo de las causas desesperadas The saint of difficult causes.

While taking the train home I picked up the Downtown News.  Take a look at this cartoon by

Cartoon by Doug Davis.  Amen Mr. Davis.

Let’s go Dodgers! Let’s Go!  Is it 5:30 yet?   I am sporting my Clayton Kershaw t-shirt (women size) underneath a cardigan sweater at work.  I have a pair of Dodger earrings on too.

Dodgers Reel in the Marlins

Dodgers reel in the Marlins with Clayton Kershaw on the mound today on an early game on Getaway day.  I am so glad that for a change the Dodgers played early today as the schedule has not been nice to them on getaway days.

Kershaw pitched eight scoreless innings striking out six.  Kershaw improved his record to 13-7 and lowered his ERA to 1.72!  Kershaw also lined a single to left field to bring in Yasiel Puig for the first run.

El barbudo de Brian Wilson made his Dodger debut in the ninth inning.

Funny picture from Mike Scioscia Tragic Illness blog.     I like the barba Azul.

With the Dodgers win and the D’Backs loss, the Dodgers magic number is

Among the Dodgers that have worn #27 are Pete Reiser, Clyde King, Carl Furillo, Gene Mauch, Tommy Lasorda, Bob Borkoswki, Don Demeter, Jim Gentile, Mike Sharperson, Kevin Brown, Jose Lima, James Loney, Matt Kemp.

The boys should be getting home later on tonight to start the three game series with the Red Sox.  The Red Sox did not play today.  Tomorrow’s matchup is Lackey against Ricky Nolasko.

Here’s to you Dodgers!  See you at OLOCR (Our Lady of Chavez Ravine)!!!

Reggie Smith will throw out a ceremonial first pitch on Friday.

Haiku’s from game in Colorado

What a wonderful day yesterday with the Dodgers climbing out of the cellar, homer Bailey pitching a no-hitter against the Giants, and the Giants taking over the basement!

Here are some Haiku’s to commemorate yesterday’s performance:

Last Place Dodgers against Last Place Brewers

The Dodgers and the Brewers have exactly the same record: 17 wins, 25 losses. At least the Brewers were able to win one of the three games they played against St Louis. The Dodgers got swept by the Braves.

It was a tough weekend in Atlanta where the Dodgers were leading in all three games but the bullpen let it get away. The bullpen collapse and the light hitting undermined the starters pitching.

Off to Milwaukee they go with their tails between their legs.

It seems like the season is slipping away, like Jaime Jarrin’s shirt says “Se Va, Se Va, y Despidala con un Beso”

Tonight’s matchup
Lefty NIÑO de ORO, Clayton Kershaw

against Mexican righty Yovani Gallardo

The Dodgers won two of three from the Brewers in a late April series this season, while Milwaukee won six of seven games between the teams in 2012.

When the Dodgers are in Miwaukee, we always remember the time Shawn Green hit four home runs in one game at Milwaukee .   Shawn did that on 5/23.02.     The Dodger with the highest home runs this year for the Dodgers is Crawford with five.  Adrian Gonzalez has four, Ethier and Scott Van Slyke have three.  A.J. Ellis, Mark Ellis and Uribe have two.   Kemp, Ramirez, Hairston, Gordon), Sellers, Kerhshaw and Punto each have one.

Let’s go Dodgers!  Let’s go!

Yeah that is Rue (Ruda) for good luck

From Koufax to Kershaw: What an Opening Day at Dodger Stadium

What an Opening Day at Dodger Stadium!  All Opening Days are special.  We await them with so much anticipation.  What an Opening act with Sandy Koufax throwing out the first pitch and Orel Hershiser catching him.

We went into Dodger Stadium with big smiles.  We came out still smiling after that incredible Opening game.   I did not even mind the long wait for the shuttle after the game.

Icing on the cake:   I have Clayton Kershaw in my Baseball Fantasy team :-)   Los Locos Azules play in the TwitterMaffiaLeague.
