Feliz Dia de El Locutor. Jaime Jarrin’s Anniversary and I will see Vin Scully on Saturday

Dodgers lost to the Cardinals.  It was another frustrating night at Dodger Stadium with the team lack of hitting.

The highlight of the game  on Thursday:   the Cool-A-Coo!  It hit the spot and brought back so many memories back when I used to watch Fernando pitch, back when Scioscia was behind home plate, back when the team was known as “The Big Blue Wrecking Crew”

Another highlight last night:  Hanging out with  friends especially Lore and little Rachel

Thank you Rachel for my drawing!  I love it!

Here is Rachel again.  She is a cutie.  She and her sister Elizabeth and her parents are season ticket holders.  I’ve been seeing since they were babies.

Jaime Jarrin’s Hollywood Star Anniversary.

On this day, September 14, 1998 – Jaime Jarrin received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

You can find the star on the north side of the 6300 block of Hollywood Boulevard.  Happy anniversary sr. Jaime!

Feliz Dia de El Locutor

Hoy Septiember 14, es  El Dia de El Locutor en Mexico.   Today is Day of the Broadcaster in Mexico.

Felicidades a Jaime Jarrin, Pepe Yniguez y a Fernando Valenzuela!   Ojala que celebren con una victoria de los Dodgers.  Let’s hope you celebrate with a Dodger victory.   Feliciadades muchachos!

Baseball Prospectus event at Dodger Stadium

Saturday I am looking forward to attending the  Baseball Prospectus event at Dodger Stadium.   In addition to  meeting   many of Baseball Prospectus personalities, Vin Scully will also make a special appearance!

There will also be a question and answer session with industry guests including Los Angeles Dodgers Assistant GM, Amateur and International Scouting Logan White.

The private event is sold out so I am glad that I signed up!

So I was remembering reading about the time Hilda Chester colored her hair red to change the Dodgers luck.  They went on to win that day.

Highlights of Dodgers Diamond Backs series: Vin Scully and Jaime Jarrin

Nothing new to report is just has been frustrating to lose to the Diamond Backs.

Only highlights of these last two games with the Diamond Backs have been:

Vin Scully on his special Bobblehead day.

and Jaime Jarrin signing a three year extension.  Next year will be his 55th year with the team

Felicidades a nuestro maestro Jaime Jarrin!

Josh Beckett on the mound tonight.  Can they break the snake spell?

Wake up Dodgers!

Is frustrating and exasperating being at the stadium night after night and seeing you lose when you can do better than that.

Why are the Diamond Backs dominating the Dodgers this year?

Why are the Diamond Backs dominating the Dodgers this year?

I don’t know the answer.   Is one of those baseball misteries.  The D’Backs came into Dodger Stadium with a six game losing streak.  But the other record they had going was six straight wins against the Dodgers.  Well, make that seven now.

Dodgers wasted a good outing by Clayton Kershaw.   They lost 2-0 on Vin Scully Day.   The only good thing about yesterday was honoring Vin Scully.  Vin was the highlight, the rainbow.

Dodgers have hit some slide with the Rockies and Diamond Backs.

they are now 4 1/2 games back.

Jaime Jarrin was saying on twitter that the Giants are probably singing “La Distancia entre los dos es cada dia mas grande”     which means the same as “The distance between us grows and grows”

C’mon Dodgers snap out of it!

tonight: Trevor Cahill  for the D’Backs against Aaron Harang.

Congratulations to Jaime Jarrin!   He will return next year for his 55th year with the Dodgers.  He has signed a three year contract!   Felicidades Maestro!

The Dodgers get the first cannon blow against the Pirates

The Dodgers get the first cannon blow against the Pirates!

Shane Victorino went boom

Harang got the win and Jansen got save #24.   Jansen is also in my baseball fantasy team, Los Locos Azules!

Let’s do it again!   Let’s go Dodgers!

Got  title idea from Efren Meza’s tweet.  Efren is the  Dodgers Spanish Radio Producer/Engineer.  He started using twitter a few days ago.  He is also responsible for teaching our Spanish announcers Jaime Jarrin & Pepe Yniguez how to to use Twitter.  Their account are @trublu_Efren, @JaimeJarrinHOF @PepeYniguez .   Efren says that Jaime & Pepe picked it up easily and are having fun.   Thank you Efren!

Thank you Jaime & Pepe!   Es un honor seguir su poesia Don Jaime y Pepe, no te quedas atras.  Ya tuve que usar el Para Burros con dos palabras que no estaba segura el significado.

Welcome aboard Getlemen!

Efren who is in his first year with the Dodgers is visiting the stadiums for the first time.  He is taking suggestions for things to do in Pittsburgh and Atlanta.

Here is a nice picture from Jon SooHoo of  “El Patron y dos de sus sequaces”  In order of pic, Pepe Yniguez, Jaime Jarrin and Efren Meza.

Hi Five Fife! Hanley you are the man! Dodgers Winning at AT&T Park

Listening to Dodger Talk last night reminded me that yeah, Steven Fife and Federowicz were the two players that the Dodgers got in the three team trade where the Dodgers sent Trayvon Robinson to Seattle.

In his major league debut he had to face Halladay.  He went six inning winning the game 2-1 but the Dodger bullpen gave it away.

He did great but had to be sent back to the minors.

First game at AT&T Park.  Steven Fife against Matt Cain

Scott Elbert went on the DL and Steven Fife was callled back again to face another Perfecto pitcher in Matt Cain.  No problem, Fife again  rose to the occasion.   He had no decision but the Dodgers won the game with Hanley Ramirez hitting his first homerun as a Dodger.  The  two run homerun came in the 10th against Romo.

Final score Dodgers 5, Giants 3.  Rookie Tolleson with the win.  Fife got his first major league hit, a double off Matt Cain.

High Five Fife!

2nd Game at At&T Park:  Billingsley against Zito.

You are the man Billingsley!   Like Jaime Jarrin said “Billingsley ha estado pitchando una jolla de juego”  “Billingsley is pitching a jewel of a game”.

Cochito Luis Cruz extended his hitting streak to 11.  This is the longest hitting streak for a Dodger this year.

The revenge is sweet in Sports.  Dodgers win 10 -0 and now are going for

the sweep tomorrow with Clayton Kershaw

Rubber game: Dodgers Angels.

Dodgers lost the first game with the Angels 3-2. Isringhausen won it and Kenley Jansen lost it. Kenley is in my baseball fantasy team, Los Locos Azules.

BUT! we know pitchers got to have a short memory. Kenley came back on Tuesday and won the game. Dodgers were trailing on this one but with the score 2-2 (after Ethier tying the game), ex-Angel Juan Rivera went Boom! with a 3-run homerun! We went crazy at the stadium!

It was also Mike Sciocia’s bobblehead night. I don’t think the bobblehead resembles him but I am glad to have it. Scioscia used to be a favorite of mine back when I started attending games. Always had a soft spot for catchers and pitchers.

Not a good day for honorees at the ballpark since Jaime Jarrin who was honored the night before did not get a win for his team. But it was a special night with all the tributes paid to Jaime Jarrin.

After throwing out the first pitch along with his son Jorge Jarrin and his grandson Stefan Jarrin, Jaime went to the mike to say “It’s Time for Dodger Baseball” but first he said it in Spanish “Es La Hora de el Beisbol de los Dodgers”

Another person that threw out the first pitch was the Veteran of the Day. Dodgers honored a Veteran every day. This time it was 102 year old Bea Cohen, the oldest living female World War II Veteran.
Bea Cohen Oldest Female World War II Veteran

Monday was also the day the Kings won the Stanley Cup! 50,559 showed up at Dodger Stadium even with the Kings playing at Staple Center.

For tonight Dodger game, the Stanley Cup Champions Los Angeles Kings are bringing the Stanley Cup trophy and will be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch. Congratulations Kings! Let’s Go Dodgers! Let’s Go!

Dodger Road Trip to Seattle. Back in L.A to face Angels.

Lorena, Rosie and I got back to LAX at 11:30. Lorena had parked near by so she had to take a shuttle there. Rosie and I had taken the Flyaway so I gave her a ride home once I picked up my car at Union Station. My alarm at 5 AM came on way to early!

Shower & coffee were not doing their thing of keeping me awake

But I got in to work with window and Sunroof open to keep me awake. It is all worth it though! I had a great time in Seattle!

After the 1-0 no-hitter on Friday the Dodger bats came alive! They score eight runs on Saturday and another eight runs on Sunday for the scores of 8-2 and 8-3. We were fanatically happy with the results!

Congratulations to the Dodgers on an excellent road trip that saw them go 8-2.

Lots and lots of Dodger fans at Safeco Field. I am in this picture from Jon SooHoo.

And here is my friend Lorena in another of Jon SooHoo’s pictures. Sometimes you never know when he is taking a picture

And here is another picture where friends emailed that I was in it

Here is a picture from Jon SooHoo of some of our friends that made the trip. In it Kevin & Dee

I wanted to include more pictures but I have not had a chance to upload my pictures.

Homenaje a Jaime Jarrin. Paying Tribute to Jaime Jarrin

Esta mañana cuando iba manejando a tomar el tren para el trabajo, la estacion de radio El Recuerdo tenia una entrevista con Jaime Jarrin. La mañana estaba nublada y el trafico pesado pero la entrevista alegró mi mañana.

This morning while driving to take the train to work, the radio station “El Recuerdo” was interviewing Jaime Jarrin. The morning was clowdy and the traffic heavy but hearing the interview brighten my morning.

Jaime was being interviewed by Silvia Botello for his 54 years covering the Dodgers and because next Monday Jaime is going to honored at Dodger Stadium. In his honor the following t-shirt will be given to the first 30,000 fans

the ball is going going and kiss it goodbye!

Me encanta la camiseta y la usare con orgullo!:.

I love the t-shirt and I will be wearing it with pride!

Despues de escuchar la entrevista y ya en el tren, me fui a la pagina de El Recuerdo para leer la entrevista. Habia mas information alli de lo que escuche.:.

After hearing the interview and already on the train, I went to “El Recuerdo” website to read the interview. There was more there than what I heard.

The only thing I did not like reading is that Jaime is thinking of retiring in three more years :-( I don’t want to think of those days when Vin Scully and Jaime Jarrin retire. For us the listeners, they are part of our family when we allow them to come into our homes, our cars, our jobs and everywhere else including Dodger Stadium where we carry our radios or our phones equipped to listen to them wherever we may be.

Pero entre tanto disfrutemos escuchandolos. Aqui les dejo otros dichos de Jaime y mi pobre traduccion

But in the meantime, let’s enjoy them listening to them. I leave you with other Jaime’s sayings along with my poor translation:

Cantado el 3er strike!
Called 3rd strike.

Se quedó con la carabina al hombro ponchándose.
He was left with the rifle on his shoulders striking out.

Las bases llenas, el rancho ardiendo
The bases are full and the Ranch is in flames

Listo el pitcher, lanzamiento! Sooobre el plato!
The pitcher ready, the pitch! Over the plate!

y, le tiiiira y se pooonchaaa!!
The pitch and he strikes out!

se van los Dodgers comiendo de la mano como corderitos.
Dodgers go down one two three like lambs eating out of the hands.

Ya veo las casitas de mi pueblo.
I already see the little houses of my town. When the game is near the end.

Feliciades señor Jaime!!!!

Pictures from the first Dodger Stadium FanFest

I arrived at the first Dodger FanFest at noon. There were a lot of people there waiting for the gates to open. The first thing I did was have my baseball card made. This is my third baseball card but this one has the Dodger schedule in the back. The next thing I did was the Dodger flip book. Basically you put a glove on and pose for pictures pitching, catching while the camera rolls and they make that into a tiny book.

It was already hot so when I saw sosmeone with a paper fan with half of Matt Kemp’s face, I asked where they got it. It is KCAL CBS sponsored with their broadcast schedule in the back. They gave you three rubber baseballs and if you made it thru the big hole you got the fan. If you made it thru the smaller hole you got Dodger tickets. I wanted the fan but I only came close. Lucky for me my brother Victor was with me. He aimed for the big hole and got me my fan! How do I look?

When Mattingly was on stage, I went to the mike and asked him what Lilly had done to get tossed in Chicago. Also I said on the Mike while wearing my Vote for AJ Ellis button (I took the image from MikeSciosciatragicillness blog and glued it to one of my buttons. Mattingly said “yes, I am voting for AJ.

Here is Matt Kemp on stage being interviewed and taking questions.

The longest Dodger infield was missing the iron man Steve Garvey. He had an emergency so only Russell, Cey and Lopes were there. I thanked them for 1981 which was my first year as a season ticket holder and told Lopes that back in 1981 I had given Bobby Welch a greeting card to make him feel better because he was not doing well. He said something like “you don’t know how much we appreciate that when we are not doing well..” That year in December 1981 I received a postcard from Lopes thanking me for my support. I still have it.

Vin Scully also made it appearance! He talked and we listened only with the “WE Love you Vin!” “No, you are Great!”

Next it was Pepe Yniguez, Fernando Valenzuela & Jaime Jarrin. Pepe funny as usual and even Fernando. Jaime great as always.

Earlier I had gone to the section where the Dodgers had the Tommy Lasorda wine tasting. This section was only for season ticket holders. Later on Tommy was going to walk around talking to fans there posing for picures but I had a conflict since it was the same time Vin Scully was going to be on stage. Anyway, after Pepe, Fernando and Jaime appearace on stage, Tommy followed. He was funny, inspirational and full of Dodger Blue energy. He got the crowd going. I asked him “what kind of food I should have with two bottles of his wine I have at home. He said “Save it!” “And when the Dodgers win the World Series I will drink those bottles of wine with you!” :-) Tommy: I got plenty of witnesses!

I left in time to watch some batting practice. Clayton Kershaw pitched a great game. He blanked out the Cardinals 6-0,

10 Days till Dodgers Opening Day at Petco Park!

10 days till Dodgers Opening Day at Petco Park!  Also 10 days till I take vacation!   Yes! I will be in San Diego for the four game series.   The Dodger schedule works perfect with a four game series, followed by a day off on Monday then Opening Day at Dodger Stadium so Clayton Kershaw gets to pitch both Opening Days!

10 days.  Hall of Famers that wore # 10 and they have had their number retired are :  Sparky Anderson, Phil Rizzuto, Andre Dawson & Ron Santo.

I was listening to Jaime Jarrin and Pepe Yniguez broadcasting the Dodger game on Sunday.   It was odd that there was no English transmission.   Anyway, Pepe mentioned that Ron Santo never saw a no hitter.   Pepe also mentioned that he has never seen a no-hitter.  Neither have I.  I have seen them on TV but never in person.

As I was going thru the retired numbers per team, I noticed that Seattle and Colorado are the only teams that have never retired a number.   Both teams have numbers out of circulations like #24 Ken Griffey Jr. and #14 Lou Piniella.  For The Rockies, no one has worn Larry Walker’s #33, but probably  #17 Todd Helton will be the first number retired for the Rockies.

P.S.  After a year in hiatus, I am back to playing Fantasy baseball!   So my team, Los Locos Azules are back!!   I drafted last but I am happy with my team. Here is what I have:

C Carlos Santana,  1B Joey Votto,   2B Howie Kendrick,   3B Aramis Ramirez,   SS Dee Gordon,   OF Jacoby Ellsbury,   OF Emilio Bonifacio,   PF Yoenis Cespedes,   Util Alex Rios,   Util Adam Dunn,   BN Ryan Howard,   BN Paul Goldschmidt,   BN Jason Bay,   BN Chase Utley.    SP Zach Greinke,   SP James Shields,   RP Craig Kimbrel ,   RP Heith Bell,   P Brandom Morrow,   P Kenley Jansen,   P Francisco Liriano,   P Brandom McCarthy,   BN Jonathan Broxton.
