Running into other bloggers. MLB Playoffs
When CCompe1 (Carol) posted in the ITD blog, it reminded me of this email I got from Andy of www.Andystadium.com. I had commented on his blog before and he in turn has visited my blog. During Fan Appreciation Day, I was making my rounds at each level. I had gone to see Carol and her mom but my visit was brief as the seats around were taken so I could not stay. This is what I received from Andy:
Hi Emma. Thanks for emailing me. That was the 3rd game of the season that I attended and Ted Lilly was the starting pitcher in all three. It’s funny because I didn’t plan it that way. In fact, the tickets were free because we’d gotten some free ticket vouchers at the Casey Blake signing in Pasadena earlier this season. So Ted Lilly won two of the three games we attended.
We sat in Reserved Level Section 1. You (I hope it was you, lol) were talking to a lady in the aisle seat in Row M of our section, I think. It does look like you were making the rounds visiting friends. I love your Jackie Robinson jersey. We were in Row 0, right in the middle of the row. I wanted to go over to introduce myself but I didn’t want to inconvenience other people to stand up so I could go up the stairs–I had already done that several times earlier.
I had always wanted to meet you and Roberto and other Dodger bloggers and to take a group picture at the game–maybe next season! I’d also like us to be featured in next year’s year-end Dodgers “Thank You Fans” video. Wouldn’t that be cool?
Anyways, I’ve attached the picture. It is you, isn’t it?
Yep, that was me with my game used Jackie Robinson jersey and the giveaway “this is my Town” floppy hat.
I hope to meet you next year Andy! Let me know when you are at our Blue Heaven on Earth.

MLB Playoffs
Is ironic that all three homeruns in the first game of the NLCS were hit by Ex Dodgers, two by Cody Ross and one by Jason Werth. thanks NEd Colletti. This series is tied at one.
Cliff Lee was brilliant in game 3 of the ALCS against the Yankees. He gave up two hits and struckout 13. Texas leads the series two games to one.
Early games on Tuesday so I’ll be checking updates for the first one at work and hearing/tweeting the second one.

Second ITD (InsidetheDodgers) Tour
Last year I included the story about Joe Pierre that Rhett Bollinger of MLB wrote in this post the Power of a Blog Joe was invited by the Dodgers to join the first ITD tour.
To the right is the cage where Kirk Gibson hit the most dramatic homerun in Dodger history. This image of Kirk Gibson pumping his fist along with Mel Didie’s quote was added afterwards. Kirk Gibson was pleased when he saw it.
I am glad we ran into Manny Mota so that I could tell him what a wonderful job he and Pepe Yniguez are doing on the Spanish TV station. Thank you so much Manny for spending time with us. Muchisimas gracias Manny!
I am taking a picture of the mirror image. Look at the guy with Kershaw’s number 22! I like how that came out. Number 22 by the way is the number I came in at in the latest MLB fan blog ranking! Thank you all that visit my humble blog!

A Tribute to #26 Red Adams and Doug Mientkiewicz
Back in March when my blog was ranked #26 I said that only two Dodger players had worn #26 and I dedicated it to Hall of Famer Heinie Manush ttp://crzblue.mlblogs.com/archives/2009/03/.
Well I was reminded by a friend at the stadium that Pitching Coach Red Adams had that number. Thanks Alex!
Also my good friend LuvtheDodgers23 told me “what about Mientkiewicz?” Thanks LTD23! It was funny ’cause I was asking as Dougie was coming up to bat.
Red Adams(baseball-reference picture)
Charles Dwight Adams (born October 7, 1921) was the longtime pitching coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers, He was born in Parlier, California. Parlier is in the Fresno area.
Adams won over 150 games in the minor leagues from 1942-1957. Among the minor league teams that he played back then were the Angels, the Padres, and the Miami Marlins. He also pitched briefly in the Major Leagues with the chicago Cubs in 1946.
After his playing career, he was a scout for the Dodgers from 1959-1968. He was the pitching coach from 1969-1980, helping develop many of the Dodgers pitchers.
Quote from Don Sutton at Cooperstown:
“Red Adams is a standard by which every pitching coach should be measured. No person ever meant more to me in my career than Red Adams, and without him I wouldn’t be standing in Cooperstown today.”
Tommy John also gave Adams a tremendous amount of credit:
“He saw me throw on the side and told me, `You know, you can win with just a fastball.’ I thought he was kidding. I had to pitch a certain way, or so I thought. But he kept pounding it into me that I could get by with just a fastball.” -Tommy John., remembering advice that Red Adams gave him in 1972 that helped him have the best years of his career in the 1970′s.
Red Adams is 87. I wonder if Tommy Lasorda still keeps in contact with his old pitching coach.
Doug Mientkiewicz

Minor setback for a Major Comeback
Doug Mientkiewics was injured back on April 16, dislocating his shoulder, and was told by docors his baseball career might be over. However, he persevered, making the long climb back to the majors. Mientkiewicz had a pinch-hit single in his first game back last Wednesday night.
Afer receiving congratulatory high-fives from teammates in the dugout, Mientkiewics ducked into the clubhouse and disappeard for 10 minutes. “I went and found a quiet place,” he said, not disclosing the location. “it was in the building. I knew no one would find me. The emotions exploded.”
Trainer Stan Conte, who oversaw Mientikiewics’s rehab assignment, admitted, reluctantly, that he was also touched by the moment. “I got misty-eyed,” Conte said.
Congratulations Dougie! Your hard work is paying off!

The Power of a Blog
Without having a blog like http://insidethedodgers.mlblogs.com/where we from all parts of the country can share our passion for our beloved Dodgers, this story would not have taken place. Please take a moment to read this touching story well written by Rhett Bollinger /MLB.
I could not help get all teary reading it. I was happy to be part of this and to finally meet many of the “blogmates” (term used by Sparkleplenty from the ITD blog).
Mr. McCourt showed up Saturday night half way thru the game and sat there with Joe Pierre. All thru Friday and Saturday, oldbrooklynfan(Joe Pierre) kept saying “I can’t believe this is happening to me.”
To Mr. Frank McCourt and Josh Rawitch:
This goes to show how classy the Dodgers are.
Meanwhile back at the Ranch..
Meanwhile back at the Ranch…..Lore and I made it from the L.A. area to Glendale, AZ in 5 hours. The first thing we saw when we were approaching Camelback Ranch was a digital sign from CVS drugstore that read “Welcome Dodgers fans to the Cactus League”. We both pointed to the sign excitedly. We got more excited when we saw that to our right we could see a field with a whole bunch of White Sox players exercising! Ooooh we could hardly wait to park the car!
As we approached the gate, we were told that there was mockup game that day. (The team was in Tucson playing the Rockies.) We parked and started toward the gate but noticed that we needed tickets. I went to the ticket window but I was told that it was only for family and friends. I thanked the lady and we were about to walk away when this very nice guy gave us two tickets! We thanked him profusely and we went inside and took in all of the sites from the inside. The grass looked so green and the whole place looked magnificent. They were practicing all the festivities for the pregame. We sat where the ticket said we could sit which was behind home plate after getting our free food. We both tried the Chicago dogs. I never had one before and I really liked it. They gave us the first item free plus a drink and any additional items were a dollar. Beer was regular price.
After enjoying our lunch and realizing that there was not going to an actual mock game but only a few ladies throwing on the field, we walked through the whole stadium taking in the beautiful view, talking to ushers and taking pictures. We noticed two workers with drills still working on some seats. We were all decked out in Dodger blue! One of the ushers told us “I think I saw Vin Scully upstairs” so up we went to check out the suites and see if we could see our beloved Vin but he was no longer there. The only one I saw was Josh Rawich (Dodgers VP of Communication) who was walking by with some people heading to get some food. I yelled “JOSH”. He looked around who was calling him. I yelled “UP HERE.” He said “Hi Emma, you guys are everywhere”. lol. The next day I read Josh post at ITD (Insidethedodgers.mlblogs) saying that he had given Vin a tour of the place so we had just missed him.
We left to check in at the Springhill suites hotel . Later on our friend Erik called us that he had arrived in Glendale and if we could pick him up so afterwards, the three of us headed to find a place for dinner. We were close to this shopping center that had several restaurants. We ask what the wait was at the Yard House and they said between 45 minutes to 1 hour. Ran into 2 Dodgers photographers there and Jon told me the wait was going to be like that everywhere.. We went to a place called Joe’s Grill for drinks and food. Later on we headed to Scottsdale blasting the CD playing “I Love L.A” and singing along to get ready for the season. By the time we came back it was 3:30 in the morning. It did not help that we got lost on our way back and that the gas station where we got off was not open.
