Hot Stove. La Estufa Caliente. Scott Rolen & Chad Billingsley

I forgot to post this. My friend called me late last night and told me that the Dodgers offered Scott Rolen a one year contract. Scott wants two.

Interesting fact: Scort Rolen and Don Mattingly were both born in the same town of Evansville, Indiana. Here is another interesting fact that my friend told me. Scott Rolen step dad was a freshman at Van Nuys high school while Don Drysdale was a Senior.

Chad Billingley
Todd of http://cookandsonbats.mlblogs.com/ sent me this tweet and picture:

He twitted this to me:
@crzblue Tim had a baseball clinic today for his little league. See the guy standing in Blue? That’s #ChadBillingsley. pic.twitter.com/3Icu6hhv

Todd also said this: C&S ‏@cookandsonbats
@crzblue FYI, he said this complex is where he does his offseason workouts.

Wish Todd would have asked how his progress is going.

Rest in peace Stan the Man! You were the man Mr. Stan Musial.

He was married to his wife Lillian for nearly 72 years before she passed away in May of 2012.

Rest in peace the Earl of Baltimore, Mr Earl Weaver.

Sad day in baseball with the passing of these two men.

Scott Boras at the SABR 2011 Conference and the Winter Meetings

SABR (Society for American Baseball Research) 2011 Conference.

The 2011 SABR conference (#41) will be in Long Beach, California next year! the dates are July 6 to 10, 2011.

I went my first SABR meeting last Saturday with the purpose of volunteering . There were 15 guys at the meeting and me.

Anyway, I found out that Scott Boras will be one of the speakers Also Arte Moreno for the Angels and THE speaker from the Dodgers is still pending. The player speakers will be announced at a later date.

The Dodgers and Angels are in town so the Dodger game that we will be attending from the conference will be Thursday July 7th when the Dodgers play the Mets.   This is also Andre Ethier Bobblehead night so It will be a popular night.  The Angel game will be on Saturday against the Mariners.  There will be much more added to the conference.  In the meantime,

Hot Stove and Winter Meetings

Don’t you just love all the Hot Stove trade rumors coming out of the 2010 Winter Meetings?  My head spins on one direction then another with all the rumors.   Are the Dodgers going after a left fielder or Prince Fielder?

In the meantime the Dodgers have signed Vicente Padilla for 2 Million.   I like this signing at this price.  Padilla must like it here in LA.

Note also that SABR will be at booth #1907 during the Baseball Trade Show at the Winter Meetings, December 6-8.

The McCourt divorce.

And just to make things more …..interesting for the Dodgers, the judge has ruled in favor of Jaime McCourt so she owns 50% of the team.      These two have not played nice since the divorce started so what now?    Do we move into appeal hell now?  Does she get her office back?  Do they sell the team?  What does Selig have to say?  Stay tune for more of   “As The Dodgers turns”

Dodgers Zizling Hot Stove Baseball.

Fist of all, congratulations to the Phillies and their fans!   You are the better team.  Good luck!

Now let the hot stove begin.   Ned and company should start working on the 2010 team now.  He got a lot of work to do.

I want pitchers that can go more than 4 innings.   I want pitchers that can pound the strike zone.

I want a better option at 3rd base.   Casey Blake did not deliver in the postseason.  Can we undo this trade and get back Carlos Santana? and who else did we give there?  Meloan I believe.

Which Rafael is the real deal, the one that played against the Cardinals or the Phillies.

Manny.  Is Manny done?   At times, he looked awful swinging.

Russell has not been the same since making the All-Star game a couple of years back.  His production has been regressing.

Billingsley won 9 games to start the season.  Was it his leg injury that stopped him in the second half?

Broxton will be fine.   Even with his blown save, I’ll take him.  He will get better but you do need a short memory.

Kemp and Ethier are progressing nicely but can Kemp learn to be more patient at the plate?

Who’s on second?   I think we saw the last of Hudson so I am glad that he homered.   So who plays second  Hu?, DeWitt.   BTW, how is Ivan DeJesus progressing?   he had a bad break (leg) back in Spring Training.

Loney needs to step it up.   We need more power from a first baseman.

We need an ACE starter who can go deep into a game.

Bullpen was great up until facing the Phillies but they were overworked.

Who do we bring back?  Wolf, Garland or Padilla?

What is going to happen now that the McCourts are splitting?  oh oh, what a way to start the hot stove with Frank McCourt firing the CEO, Jaime McCourt.
