Dodgers are playing 20 games without a day off

With a combination of away and home games, the Dodgers are playing 20 consecutive games without a day off before the All-Star break.

It started with the Dodgers going to Oakland for three game where they got swept.

Then they headed to Anaheim where they lost two out of three.

After Sunday’s game they took a bus to Ontario to hop on the flight to San Francisco to play three there.

After the three in San Francisco they come home to play a four game series with the Mets starting Thursday.

Come Monday the Reds come to Dodger Stadium to play three. The Fourth of July game on Wednesday starts at 6:10.

After the Fireworks game, is off to the airport to start a four game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

WOW! a tough test ahead for Mattingly and the Dodgers. If they can turn it aorund and do well they can do this:

By then, Matt Kemp should be ready to come back and we can see him doing this:

Only 22 Perfect Games from 1880 to 2012 but two in 2012

With Matt Cain pitching a perfect game last night against the Astros, we already have two perfect games this year and is only June 14. There were also two perfect games in 2010. Are they turning out to be less rare?

Here is the list of the 22 MLB perfectos:

Worcester Ruby Legs LEE RICHMOND, JUNE 12, 1880, against the Cleveland Blues

The Providence Grays JOHN MONTGOMERY WARD, JUNE 17, 1880 against the Buffalo Bisons.

Boston Americans, CY YOUNG, MAY 5, 1904 against the Philadelphia A’s.

Cleveland Naps ADDIE JOSS, OCT. 2, 1908 against the Chicago White Sox.

Chicago White Sox CHARLIE ROBERTSON, APRIL 30, 1922 against the Detroit Tigers.

New York Yankees DON LARSEN, OCTOBER 8, 1956 against the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Philadelphia Phillies JIM BUNNING, JUNE 21, 1964 against the Mets.

Los Angeles Dodgers SANDY KOUFAX September 9, 1965 against the Chicago Cubs

Oakland A’s, CATFISH HUNTER, MAY 8, 1968 against the Twins.

Cleveland Indians LEN BARKER, MAY 15, 1981 against the Toronto Blue Jays.

California Angels MIKE WITT, SEPT. 30, 1984 against the Texas Rangers

Cincinnati Reds TOM BROWNING, SEPT. 16, 1988 against the Los Angeles Dodgers

Montreal Expos DENNIS MARTINEZ, JULY 28, 1991 against the Dodgers

Texas Rangers KENNY ROGERS, JULY 28, 1994 defeated the Angels

Yankees DAVID WELLS, MAY 17, 1998. defeated the Twins,

Yankees DAVID CONE, JULY 18, 1999 against the Montreal Expos

Arizona Diamondbacks RANDY JOHNSON, MAY 18, 2004 against the Braves

Chicago White Sox MARK BUERHLE, JULY 23, 2009 defeated the Tampa Bay Rays,

Oakland A’s DALLAS BRADEN, MAY 9, 2010 defeated the Rays,

Phillies ROY HALLADAY, MAY 29, 2010 against the Marlins

Chicago White Sox PHILIP HUMBER, APRIL 21, 2012 against Seattle Mariners

San Francisco Giants MATT CAIN, JUNE 13, 2012 against Houston.

I guess Matt Cain does not believe on the 13th being a bad luck day.

The month with the most Perfect games is May with seven followed by June and July with four. None in the dog days of August.
Sandy Koufax
yes, that is my Sandy koufax baseball that I won at the Safe at Home event with Sandy Koufax at LA Live.

Congratulations to all that have pitched perfect games

Dodgers defeat Lincecum again

It sure did not look like the Dodgers would defeat Lincecum on Wednesday May 9, with Billinsley's shaky start. But defeat they did. Dodgers trailing 2-0 came back with four runs in the fourth. Lincecum went five innings and Billinsley only four so Jamey Wright picked up the win.

Earlier during batting Deuce was playing catch with Jamey Wright.
Hey Jamey, you should always play catch with Deuce!

This was the day I was meeting Army veteran RJ R.J. Breisasher. The Dodgers had given us two tickets for the game. RJ underestimated the LA traffic so he was running late. We made it to our seats during the first inning. Here was our view from the seats:

Congratulations Scott Van Slyke on your major league hit!

There were three triples in the game. One by Dodger catcher AJ Ellis. I love watching triples! AJ also had an infield single! :-) What were the odds that a catcher would end up with a triple and an infield single? I love this game!

We went back to the top deck after the game. Only the cleaning crew were there.

RJ, on behalf of the Dodgers and myself, thank you for serving our country.
Rachelle: Pleasure meeting you.

Dodgers series with the Giants

Dodgers had to wait a month to face the Giants. Dodgers won the first game on Monday. It was such an electric day there with the new owners and Magic Johnson there.

Lots of media there. Here is Rachel Robinson at the game:

Greg Jezewski Exhibition and the Baseball Reliquary

A Giant fan and a Dodger fan can get along

People ask me all the time “Emma, what do you do when the baseball season is over?” or “What do you now that the Dodgers are not playing?”  I tell them there is still baseball being played in the Fall League and there are baseball related events going on.  For example I went to SABR (Society for American Baseball Research) meeting on Saturday October 1st.  We had Wes Parker as our speaker.   Afterwards a new president was elected and at the end we had a baseball books auction.

Saturday October 8, 2011, Thanks to the Baseball Reliquary, I found out about Greg Jezewski “High Ball” exhibition in Santa Monica.  Take a look at this piece.  I understand that Lasorda has not seen it

You see Greg is a Giant fan.  He was sporting a Seals jersey at his exhibition.   What he doesn’t know is that  God IS a Dodger fan.   Tommy always talks about the BIG Dodger in the sky.  But despise Greg being a Giant fan, he has a nice baseball-themed kinetic sculptures and multi-media paintings at the exhibition in Santa Monica at Frank Pictures Gallery at Bergamot Station, 2525 Michigan Ave., Santa Monica.

Here is the link to the  gallery website and photos of the work in display http://frankpicturesgallery.com/artists/GregJ/gregj.html  Check it out, is on display until November 10th.    I had a wonderful time there looking at the exhibition and talking to Greg and Terry & Mary Cannon.    Terry is the Executive Director of the Baseball Reliquary.   I had so much fun talking to Terry & Mary.

The next Baseball Reliquary event I am attending  is this coming Saturday October 15, 2011 at the La Pintoresca Branch library, 1355 N. Raymond ave., Pasadena.  The  “Mexican American Baseball in Los Angeles,”  book signing and film screening is taking place  from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.  The event is held in conjunction with the 13th Annual Latino Heritage parade and jamaica.  I can’t wait for the event and I can’t wait to finally meet Richard Santillan co-author of the book.   Richard and I have talked to each other on the phone and have emailed each other.   Looking forward to meeting him and his wife.    BTW, Richard is a Dodger fan and a season ticket holder.   I am also looking forward to meeting some of the players from that era like Armando Perez.   Here is a link to the event:

Thoughts and Prayers to Bryan Stow

My thoughts and prayers go to Giant fan Bryan Stow who is fighting for his life in a coma after he was beaten at Dodger Stadium on Opening Day.

At the moment we cannot post pictures since the MLB blog is under construction so here is the link of the sketch of the two guys that assaulted Bryan Stow. The suspects are believed to be between 18 to 25 years.

update: Picture is working now.

I hope they find the two criminals that did this to this poor guy.

At this time, the reward is up to 50,000. Dodgers Spokesman Josh Rawitch said Monday the team will contribute $25,000. Giants spokeswoman Staci Slaughter said the team will pledge $10,000.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich previously offered a reward of $10,000 for information leading to arrests in the beating case.

American Medical Response, the paramedic company Stow worked for, is also offering a $5,000 reward.

God hear our prayers on the recovery of Bryan Stow.

Happy 50th Birthday Fernando!! Happy November!

Can you imagine Fernando Valenzuela turns 50 today November 1st?  50 years!   It does not seem like it was that long ago when I was watching him play.  I watched him pitched from his debut with the Dodgers in 1980.

Oh how I wished Tommy Lasorda would have used Fernando instead of Dave Goltz that October 6th 1980 extra game to break a dead tied for the National League West against the Astros..  Yes, the Astros!  JoeNiekro and the Astros defeated my Dodgers 7-1

OK, back to 2010!   Happy 50th birthday Fernando!!   Ya te unistes al club de los cinquentones!! (you joined the 50′s club!)

Today is also All Saints Day and tomorow is

DIA DE LOS MUERTOS- DAY OF THE DEAD or ALL SOULS DAY when we celebrate the life of our dearly departed.

For some wonderful colorful pictures from the weekend celebration in Los Angeles click on the LA Times link below

I am working in New Hampshire this week so I went from temperatures of 80′s LA to  30 to 40′s here.  But it is so beautiful here with all the wonderful colors of fall.

Hard to get used to watching games so late but still I watched game 4 of the World Series hoping against hope that the Rangers would come back.

AAUGH! Painful World Series for Dodger fans

Charlie_Brown_Aaugh.jpgThis is painful.   Haven’t we Dodger fans suffer enough with the dismal 2010 season the Dodgers had and the McCourt divorce?

Now we have to put up with watching the Halloween team in the World Series.    Is painful, I tell you.

Hopefully the hated Jints will play like the Charlie Brown team.    OK, OK, maybe it can be a little closer but with the Texas Rangers reigning supreme!

Does Bengie Molina have the inside scoop on the Giant pitching staff?   Well, read what he has to say in his MLB blog  htt://bengiemolina.mlbogs.com    This is part of what he wrote there on his blog post titled “Who Would have thought”   dated  10/23/10.

Do I think my knowledge of the Giants will help me and the Rangers? I sure hope so. But I don’t think it will help to the degree people might think.

I love that he keeps up with the blog.  His latest post entry was 10/26/10.  Here is how his lated post ends:

When we get back to Dallas, Yadier and Jose will be there. They’re in Puerto Rico right now but they’ll be there cheering me on for Games 3, 4 and, if we need it, 5. With me going to the World Series, now each of us Molina boys has been to two World Series each. Pretty amazing.

I’m going to try to post on the blog every day. So keep checking in!

Thanks Bengie!   Go Rangers!!
