I’ve been in N.H. this week. We brought the nice sunny weather from Southern Cal!! It has been in the 50’s here but the rain will start Saturday when we leave :-)) I was supposed to be in N.H. the prior week BUT I had to leave that week open in the event that my Doyers were going to the World Series. Oh well, The only thing I regreat that I missed this week back home was that Vin Scully was going to be at the HRTS (Hollywood Radio & Television Society) luncheon on Tuesday 11/10/09. Had I been in L.A. I would have gone to the luncheon to hear Vin Scully’s stories.
The good news is that Vin Scully said Tuesday he will continue in the broadcast booth for the Los Angeles Dodgers through the 2010 season, then decide whether he will walk away :-(. I know the day is coming, I just want the last year of Vin to be a memorable one.
“When the team takes the field and the crowd roars, it triggers something in me,” he told the audience at the Beverly Wilshire hotel. “Forget about where they are in the standings, I think that’s the secret. You just do the game and enjoy the game.”
Vin, who turns 82 on Nov. 29, and his wife Sandy celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary Tuesday. Congratulations Mr and Mrs Scully!
My friends Erik and LTD23 kept texting back and forth on where we should watch the Dodgers game. We planned this late so we ended up at L.A. Live watching the game at the Yard House!
Wow! I had confidence in my boys at the beginning of the series and said so in my blog but a sweeeep! Oh that is so sweeeeet!
Vicente Padilla was outstanding with a brilliant pitching performance!
He pitched seven shutout innings, yielding just four hits, and was never in trouble after escaping a bases-loaded jam in the first inning. He retired 19 of the last 21 batters he faced!
Felicidades Padilla!! You made your mom so proud!
Padilla’s mom made the trip from Nicaragua to watch his son pitched!
Padilla has been a great pickup by the Dodgers
What can we say about Ethier yesterday who was a single shy of the cycle! Congratulations Andre!
For all the Ethierholics out there, they have this t-shirt in white or blue at Dodger Stadium
Final score for the sweep at Bush Stadium: 5-1.
Congratulations Dodgers!!!! Here I am with Erik listening to Dodger Talk. We look like geeks with our headphones on. Here is to you Dodgers and all Dodger Fans!
Colorado or Phillies? Hmmm.
I am a little late with this post but.. got to do it.
Woohoo! Finally! The Great Big Dodger in the sky has answered the prayers of the faithfull Dodger fans!!!
The Dodgers are the NL West Champions! I think it tasted much sweeeter with all the waiting
During the 8th inning of Saturday’s game with a confortable lead and while in my seat in the Top Deck, I told my friends and my brother “I want to go to the field level” My friend LTD23 just looked a me like saying “No,” but then said “Ok, Emma, go if they let you.”. Well, I did make it to the field level!
After moving several times, I made it to the seats close enough that I got sprayed with champagne on my face, glasses and on my jacket. When I looked who was around me, I found friends of mine so we hugged, we high-fived! It was AWESOME!!!
Here are some pictures from the celebration
Players with the NL West Championship shirts!
Kershaw who was the moral winner in the NL West clincher. What a job this kid did. Shades of Koufax, I kept hearing from my friends. You can see Kemp to the left.
Andre Ethier and his cute baby shown on Dodger Diamond vision. See part of the retired numbers under the overhang of the left side Pavilion where my friends Erik, Gary, Tony and Jose have season tickets.
Matt Kemp celebratin in the clubhouse. My camera’s batteries went dead so I only took this with my cellphone from the postgame celebration that I watched on tv when I got home.
the Dynamic Duo of Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier. Notice how Matt is carrying Andre!
Juan Pierre, Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier!
I’ve been recharging my body’s batteries to get ready for Wednesday!!!!
Let’s go Dodgers!!!! Let’s go!!!
I am ready for October Baseball!!!
Dodgers took another series by beating the J I N T S two out of three!
Dodgers outscored the Giants 22-11.
Highlights of the series:
- Grand Slam by Belliard off Brad Penny
- Back to back homeruns by Kemp (25)and Loney (13). For Loney that was hist first HR at home.
- Garland pitched eight innings without allowing an earned run Saturday
- Randy Wolf . With six innings he surpassed 200 innings for the first time since 2003. He’s 6-0 with a 2.41 ERA in his last eight starts, all quality starts.
- Ethier belted his 31st homerun with a man on base for the Dodgers’ first 100 RBI season since J.D. Drew in 2006, the first 30/100 season since Adrian Beltre in 2004 and the first by a Dodgers outfielder since Shawn Green in 2002.
Mike, a fellow season ticket holder was showing us this coin that he received from a General in Iraq where he has been sending Dodger giveaways and other Dodger memorabillia.
An off day for my Dodgers but I will be attending this event at the Burbank library:
Author Arnold Hano and broadcaster Ross Porter, who combined have produced over a century of distinguished work in their respective professions, will share their recollections of the Dodgers-Giants rivalry, from New York to the West Coast, in a very special evening presented by the Baseball Reliquary on Monday, September 21, 2009, at 7:00 pm, in the Burbank Central Library Auditorium, 110 N. Glenoaks Blvd., Burbank, California. The discussion, which will be moderated by Jean Hastings Ardell, is free of charge and open to the public
On this day 9/11, I want to give a big thanks to all firemen in this great country! to the police department, to the ones that were and are in the military, and to the many people that do volunteer work. Thank you!!!
Is hard to believe that this happened 8 years ago.
This morning I heard that the fires here in Southern California were 70% contained. that is great news! Our firemen and all the ones that came down here have done an excellent job. I am glad I got to tell that to a few firemen the other night as I was coming out of Dodger Stadium (there was a small fire outside the stadium). Their response was “Thank you Ma’m” “Did the Dodgers win?” They did win that night!.
Driving on the Foothill freeway you can still see some smoke from the lingering fires. We are so due for rain here.
A friend sent me this link from Boston.com They have some incredible pictures here
I went to Virginia’s blog and saw her final list of the N.L. West Cuties! It reminded me of this photo of Andre. What do you think Ethierholics?
This picture was taken at the Carne Asada event
last this year by my good friend LuvtheDodgers23. thanks LTD23!
Andre is leading the team in homeruns with 28, Doubles with 39 and is tied with James Loney with 60 walks.
Hiroki Kuroda is on the mound tonight in San Francisco! He faces Matt Cain.
Good luck Kuroda-san!!
Let’s Go Dodgers! Let’s Go!!
I got a question: Why do pitchers shag baseballs in the outfield? I am asking because last week Kershaw hurt his right shoulder during BP going after he hit the scoreboard. He had to skip his turn and is still up in the air for his next start. What is the point of them shagging baseballs in the outfield? Thanks
The September issue of the Dodgers Magazine has Andre Ethier and Matt Kemp on the cover with the words: “Double Trouble.” These two have been the offense of the team. Here is the picture I took of the magazine:
Great job with the picture on the cover and the ones inside the magazine. It is an outstanding article with interviews from other baseball players and fans about these two!
I know Ethierholics and Happy Kempers will be very happy with this issue!
Andre Ethier is leading the team in Homeruns with 27 and RBIs with 88. He also has 36 doubles.
Matt Kemp is right behind Andre in RBIs with 87, he has 23 Homers, 22 doubles and 29 stolen bases.
Both of them are great defensive players covering Bison County and Ethierland. These are names we fans have tagged to center field and right field.
This is what Manny says in the article about them: “Both of them have tremendous talent. Ethier has a lot of power and he is a great fielder. Matt Kemp is a tremendous player and his power is still developing.”
Local boy Jon Garland makes his debut as a Dodger against his old team the Diamondbacks. Originally Garland was scheduled to pitch for his old team. The D’backs will counter with Billy Buckner. Jon Garland’s grandpa used to have season tickets to the Dodgers!
When I left work yesterday on my way to the stadium, I went into my facebook and wrote “I am on my way to Dodger Stadium.” A friend that should know better responded “Manny is not going to play Goofy.”. She should know that Manny or no Manny, I go to the stadium. I have only missed 3 games this year and only because I was out on a business trip.
What a game! What a game! Like Manny said “Wow” You can’t scrip that better. Bases loaded and in comes Manny with the bases loaded. Bang!! first pitch into the area designated as “Mannywood”. I could see my friend Rosa and her daugther Ronny jumping up in down. They have season tickets in the first row of Mannywood next to the Dodgers bullpen.
We were all jumping up and down and the noise was deafening even with the headphones of my radio. This game reminded me of the Back to Back to Back to Back game against the Padres. Like that night, there we were high fiving everyone and reaching even further to high five more fans. Since we sit in the last row, a group congregates in back of us and when Manny comes to bat, well they multiply there!. We love our section and all the rest of the season ticket holders there or those with packaged tickets. We have even gotten to know the friends of the regulars there.
No Game today (Thursday) but as reported by Josh Rawitch in his thread titled “You got to be kidding me” at http://insidethedodgers.mlblogs.com/, Manny was at the stadium on an off day BEFORE 10AM taking batting practice. WOW! That is dedication! What a guy! What a team! What a Team!

Congratulations to Andre Ethier who hit his 20th homerun! and to Billingsley who finally got his #10 win!
The Marlins are in town and a group of my friends from the Metrolink train will be there. For one of them it will be her first trip to a baseball game.
What a ride we’ve been having at OLOCR (Dodger Stadium)!! We are a perfect 10-0 at home! and our young pitcher Billingsley is off to a great start with a perfect record of 5 wins, 0 losses!
Thursday, Jeff Weaver was called back from Triple-A! . He had to get to work right away as our young JMAC (James McDonalds) could not get out of the 2nd inning. Jeff had 4 scoreless innings with help of Matt Kemp great catches! He will take over JMAC in the rotation so Jeff will start on Tuesday. Welcome back and good luck guerito!!
Friday night I spent most of the game in the clubhouse restaurant/bar. Interesting watching the game from there. We met a season ticker holder that sits in the Reserved section. After the win and since it was Friday, we watched the fireworks from there. I think the best place to watch the fireworks though is from the Top Deck! It was Las Vegas Fireworks Night so all the music was with a Las Vegas flavor. Also during the game Nancy Bea_our organist, played Vegas related songs like “Luck Be the Lady Tonight”. I found this youtube of Nancy playing “When I am 64” Ok, so I forgot how to post youtubes so here is the link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bbhZP6FVfk
The video at the end reminded me that we no longer have the Trader Joe’s fan of the day. I was selcted once. They also used to give you this cool blue Hawaiian Dodger shirt and they used to send you the CD of the announcement.
Saturday night, Andre Ethier got a bases loaded single in the 10th inning! Dodgers won 2-1. Wolf pitched well but the win went to the bulpen.
Sunday Billingsley got his 5th win!!! Congratulations Billz!
Carne Asada with Andre: My friends and I headed downstairs to the terrace area in the Loge level where the event was taking place. They had Carne Asada tacos, rice beans, different cilantro with chopped onions, cheese quesadillas and different kinds of salsas. Yum!! There were mariaches and Andre Ethier posed for pictures. We also got a signed picture of Andre. Andre came with his wife Maggie, the baby and one of his brothers. Proceeds from the event benefited the Dodgers Dream foundation.
Sad News: Saturday night I found out we lost one of our “Top Deck family.” Wesley was only 36. I did not know he had a rare desease. I remember one time when they showed highlights of Kirk Gibson’s Homerun, he said “I still get goose bumps watching it” then he pointed to where he and his dad sat that day. My deepest condolences to his parents James & Uni who are also part of the “Top Deck Family.” R.I.P. Wesley.
I was Thrilled that I was invited to this premiere on Saturday 4/18/09. My friends and I were looking forward to see how the movie about the Dodgers and their fans turned out. We got to see a lot of Tim Marx_the producer and his camera guys at the stadium and also on some road games during all of the 2008 season.
Players Chad Billinsgley who pitched a great game ealier in the day, Clayton Kershaw, Matt Kemp, James Loney and Andre Ethier attended the event. Also in attendance were Charlie Steiner, Rick Monday, Dr Steinberg, Pepe Yniguez, Josh Rawitch,Dennis Manion and organist Nancy Bea. My friends and I had a picture taken with Matt Kemp. Matt was very friendly talking with all the fans that attended the event. I talked with Andre’s wife asking her how was her baby. She told me her father in law was taking care of the baby. James Loney was running late so we just went inside and took a sit in the front where friends of ours were reserving our seats.
We Loved the movie! We relived the 2008 season, we laughed, cheered and I got chocked up during several parts of the movie We already knew that we were not the only crazy passionate Dodger fans but it was nice to confirm that there are a lot of us around. We applauded at the end and we started a chant “LET’S GO DODGERS!”.
Here is the movie poster that was in display at the premiere
Here is Tim Marx, the producer. You can’t see it too well, but I have Dodger earrings, a baseball bracelet, a silver and Blue LA pin and a Dodger bag that Debie Little sent me in the mail when Grady Little was with the team. She sent me a note with it thanking me for filling out two boxes of ballots for Russell Martin.
Here is Matt Kemp. A fan that always paints his face is in the background. He comes out in the movie saying “this is my church!.” Yeah baby! You got that right! Dodger Stadium is our church!
Erik and I are posing here with one of the Dodger ambassadors. I love that all the male ambassadors were wearing vintange Dodger uniforms. Jordan is wearing Duke Snider’s number.
The following day when my friends and I got to the stadium early for BP, a gentleman asked me where my 70’s outfit was (see my post on the 70’s Fireworks). Well, we started talking to him and then we noticed that he was wearing a tag wtih the last name Ethier. We did not know that we were talking to Andre’s dad! I told him “You were taking care of the baby Saturday night!.” We stayed there for a little while talking to him about the team, players, Andre, road trips and speeding tickets in Arizona (he lives in AZ).
