My friends Erik and LTD23 kept texting back and forth on where we should watch the Dodgers game. We planned this late so we ended up at L.A. Live watching the game at the Yard House!
Wow! I had confidence in my boys at the beginning of the series and said so in my blog but a sweeeep! Oh that is so sweeeeet!
Vicente Padilla was outstanding with a brilliant pitching performance!
He pitched seven shutout innings, yielding just four hits, and was never in trouble after escaping a bases-loaded jam in the first inning. He retired 19 of the last 21 batters he faced!
Felicidades Padilla!! You made your mom so proud!
Padilla’s mom made the trip from Nicaragua to watch his son pitched!
Padilla has been a great pickup by the Dodgers
What can we say about Ethier yesterday who was a single shy of the cycle! Congratulations Andre!
For all the Ethierholics out there, they have this t-shirt in white or blue at Dodger Stadium
Final score for the sweep at Bush Stadium: 5-1.
Congratulations Dodgers!!!! Here I am with Erik listening to Dodger Talk. We look like geeks with our headphones on. Here is to you Dodgers and all Dodger Fans!
Colorado or Phillies? Hmmm.
I along wtih many Dodger fans, took a vacation day to be at Dodger Stadium, our magic castle! Some probably took a “sick” day but there is NO WAY they would believe that I was at home sick.
My day did not start well because right after I started walking on the parking lot, I noticed I had no wallet and no tickets. Hoping that I just left it in the car, I went back but noooo!, I drove 14 miles back to retrieve it from home.
Since I was at the stadium as soon as the gates opened, I was able to go back and come in plenty of time to meet with friend Carol from the ITD blog and Will who came all the way from New York for the games:
George Lopez threw out the first pitch. George was sporting a Dodger jersey with number 34 and the words “LOPEZUELA” in the back. Watch the video where Tommy coaches George Lopez to throw a strike on the mound (could not embed the code
What a game! what a 9th inning!
Wainwright only gave up three hits and one run in 8th innings of work.
Clayton Kershaw was great giving up only two runs in 6 2/3 innings.
There was Loney nailing a runner at third by cutting off a relay toss after a run-scoring double.
There was Closer Jonathan Broxton shutting down the hard of the lineup in the 8th.
And then the 9th inning with two outs, nobody on, unfolded:
“I lost it in the lights….I could not see the ball.” Holliday said.
Vin Scully’s remark: “It hit him right in the groin. Hopefully he’s wearing a cup. You talk about a painful error.”
One poster at sonsofstevegarvey said ” I was watching the replay of the Shot Felt Around the Nuts”
Loney said he was in shock but he made it to second base. He was replaced with Juan Pierre.
Up came Casey Blake. At one pitch that was called a strike, Casey gestured with his hands that he did not agree and he said “Bull-fertilizer”
Well, that is not the word he used but that is what Vin Scully uses when he reads lips.
My friend Steve started chanting “Umpire Sucks!”
Then as Blake continued to foul off pitches, Vin said, “One more twist on the tension machine.”
Blake walked on nine pitches.
Next Belliard single up the middle on the first pitch to drive Pierre and tie the score 2-2.
Blake advanced to third and Belliard to second on a passed ball.
Wtih first base open, Franklin pitched around Martin who was batting 8th, to load the bases. Up came Mark Loretta. “
Mark Loretta was hitless in 15 career at-bats against Franklin.
Then came the hit.
Loretta did his best imitation of Kirk Gibson running the bases, Blake scored and clumsly slipped trying to get to Mark Loretta but Matt Kemp got there first as the bison said afterwards “No one was going to beat there.
Loretta who is a local boy from Arcadia, CA said in one post game interview “What did Vin Scully say about me?” Ahh our hometown hero!!!
The score of the first game was; 5-3 Don Drysdale number:53
The score of the 2nd game was; 3-2. Sandy Koufax number: 32
LET’S GO DODGERS!!!
The Dodgers are the heart of L.A.!
Lost my post. booh to that😦
Dodgers draw first blood in the NLDS series and beat the Cardinals 5-3! How about that?!!!!!!
Between both teams they left an NLDS record of 30 men on base! Vin Scully said “They don’t need infielders, they need ushers!”.
Vin Scully: I love you! As an added treat during the postseason, we get Vinny during the last three innings in addition to the first three innings he does on the radio during regular season. It does not getter than watching a game at the stadium and hearing Vinny on the radio.
While I was walking in the parking lot, I was talking with these two young guys about the starting times of two games and how he could not make that 3:07 game on Thursday. He then looks at me and says “Hey, you have a blog.” “I read it every once in a while, well, i mainly look at the pictures.” LOL Too funny. Here is a picture of Alex and Danny.
On Friday I was going to meet poster Truebluewill who posts in the Insidethedodgers blog. He was making his dream a reality of watching the boys in Blue in the postseason.
After much going back and forth, I was able to find him at his seat. He said he was collecting autographs earlier. I then noticed Vic the Brick was signing autographs (you can’t miss this guy with a Dodger poncho, long hair and a long stick that makes him look like Moses), Anyway, I was asking him if he wanted me to take a pic of Vic and him when I noticed Maury Wills was signing there too. We got there and I helped him get the autograph! woohoo! I only wished Maury a Happy belated birthday. He did not stay long as he and Tommy Davis were throwing the first ball.
Here is a pic of TBW waiting for the augraph.
Here is TBW
Another poster from ITD that I was meeting for the first time, Scott and his son. They are both cute.
It was a pleasure meeting you guys!!
Well, It is 11:12 AM and I got to still take a shower, pick up a friend and head to the stadium. I wanted to say more but Alex only looks a pictures. LOL.
LET’S GO DODGERS!! LET’S GO!!
LET’S GO MR. SUNSHINE, CLAYTON KERSHAW!
Fan Appreciation Day came and went so now is preparation to the Postseason but first I’d like to write about two traditions that were carried over on Sunday during Fan Appreciation Day.
The first tradition: Robyn and Chuck have been season ticket holders in the Top Deck for a few years now. They started a tradition of bringing a cake or two in appreciation of all the Dodger employees in the Top Deck, the elevator and any other employee that we come into contact during the season. chuck and Robyn start cutting the cake during the 3rd innings and thanking each employee that shows up. slices of cakes are also shared with other fellow season ticket holders and if there is any leftover, with other fans in the area.
Take a look at the cakes below. The first one reads “Thank you Dodger Stadium Employees.” the second one reads “Western Division Champs.”
The second tradition is one that Yankee fans are familiar with.
Joe Torre has a tradition of letting a player manage the last game of the year if it has no bearing on the standings.
Nomar Garciaparra managed the team last year in the Dodgers season finale.
Brad Ausmus said “Joe came up to me when we were celebrating on the field last night and said, ‘You want to manage tomorrow night?’ I said, ‘I’ll be here,’ and he said, “All right, you’re managing.”
On Sunday , one Dodger poster jokingly posted in the Game Thread “What a lousy lineup! Fire the manager!”.
Ausmus was assisted by “bench coach” Mark Loretta , “hitting coach” Jim Thome and “bullpen coach” Jeff Weaver who was kept busy with all the pitchers coming out of the pen.
Ausmus went to the mound to make a pitching change in the eighth to replace Ronald Belisario with Scott Elbert, then put himself in as a pinch runner for Thome in the bottom half after his hitting coach singled.
“I’m turning the reins right back over to Joe — if he ever shows up again,” Ausmus joked. Ausmus is 1-0 as a manager!
On to the Postseason!!
I am super excited about tomorrow’s game at our beloved Dodger Stadium or as Vin Scully called it when we started the season on a long winning streak at home, “The Magic Castle.”
We are ready to rock that place! Bring on the Cardinals!
I really think our two lefties Randy Wolf and Clayton Kershaw can take on the Cardinals. Aside from Pujols, Cardinals don’t do well against lefties.
The Dodgers are coming off a two game winning streak off the hot Rockies. The Cardinals are coming with a three game losing streak.
I think our lefties can hold the Cardinal hitters from scoring if we can hold prince Albert to singles or walks. Same with Holliday. Dodger hitters have done well against Waingwright. Our hitters just need to soak in the Magic Castle to wake up those bats.
I expect that our dynamic duo of Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier will continue to have success and if Manny and Loney start hitting, watch out!
If we can win one at home and one at St Louis (I know the Dodgers record in St Louis) and bring it back to the Magic Castle, I think we can do it!
LET’S GO DODGERS!!! LET’S GO!!
Alber Pujols and Matt holliday went 0 for 8!
With Chad Billingsley win last night against the Cardinals:
The all time record between these two teams stands at:
But the 2009 record stands at Dodgers 2, Cardinals 4.
Lets see what tonight brings when 21 year old Clayton Kershaw goes against Adam Wainwright.
Tonight is also Matt Kemp’s bobblehead!
If you have not had a chance check this yutube video
The Adventures of Lil’ Matt (featuring Snoop Dogg!!!)
I LOVE LA!
Cardinals sign 42 year old Smoltz. He is expected to join the team on Thursday and will wear uniform #30..
short today as I am
I am buried in work and I got to go to the game!
The Dodgers salvaged one game from the three game series with the Marlins and now we start a four game series with St. Louis.
Saturday night, our closer Jonathan Broxton picked up his 7th win! Broxton has the 3rd most wins in the Team! Casey Blake delivered a single in the 9th inning to give the Dodgers their 10th walkoff this year!!. The team had 8 last year
Sunday, Jason Schmidt did not fair well. an error by Furcal did not help and Weaver did not have it. I was so rooting for Schmidt to do better. I believe that Joe Torre will give Schmidt one more start and if he does not do well, that will be it for Schmidt.
Sunday when I got to my seat, there was a nice couple holding a baby and being interviewed by a local TV station next to my seats. I told them to stay there as I jumped over and gave them room for their interview. I was curious when I saw their baby girl with a pink bib and pink hat reading “30 ballparks and a baby.” Baby Sophia is so adorable!! as you can see in the picture below.
I missed getting Judy. Isn’t baby Sofia adorable?
Look at baby Sofia’s bracelets.
You can check their website at www.30ballparksandababy.com. Buena suerte Judy, Roberto and Sofia! It was a big pleasure meeting the three of you. God bless you and keep the three of you safe!
My Dodgers are at St Louis for a four game series. I was in St Louis a few years back when the Dodgers lost all four games BUT this is a much improved team so Go Dodgers!
I am going to check if any of my good friends that are big Cardinal fans in this picture are going to any of the games. I know Linda and I wish we were back in St Louis this week so that we can improve on that 0-4 record.
I just found out my friend Amy from ITD will be going to tomorrow’s game.
Let’s go Dodgers, Let’s go!!
