Greetings from San Diego!
We got two games for the price of one! the Friday suspended game, a 2-2 tie, picked up from the 9th inning with Matt Kemp on base and no outs. Final score: Dodgers 4, Padres 2 in the 11th. W: Hawksworth (1-0) L: Frieri (0-1) SV: Broxton (4)

After a delay of 25 minutes, the second game started. Kuroda san was magnificient shutting down the Padres for 8 and 2/3 innings. Tony Wynn had a big night too.

There is more, but got to check out of the hotel, move the car and head to the game! Go Dodgers! Go Ely! going for the sweep!

The Good: Billingsley, The Bad: The bullpen, The Ugly: The Divorce

The good:  Chad Billingsley pitched seven great innings.  He struck out 13 D’backs and went out winning the game 4-1.

The Bad:  The Sherril and Broxton.     Again, they let it get away.  Sherrill gave up a two run homer.  That was Tony Abreau’s first homerun.   In came Broxton who gave away another two-run homerun.

I have said this many times, they should have shutdown Broxton some time ago.    I dropped him from my baseball fantasy a long time ago.  This loss was tipical of other losses this year.

The ugly:  The McCourt’s divorce.   I had forgotten I had taken this picture in the Summer.

This morning I was reading Jonathan Shapiro’s review  in the LA Times about Michael Connelly book “The Reversal.”   It starts with:

Los Angeles has much to lament, Our Dodgers, victims of a broken marriage, are the neglected boys of summer.  the Trojans are on probation, the Bruins are bad and the NFL has abandoned us entirely…

Thank God for Michael Connelly.  Without him, Los Angeles would just be Houston without humidity, Phoenix with the sea..

It concludes with:

We’ve still got Vin Scully, at least for another year, Huell Howser, the Lakers.  And we’ve got Connelly.  To quote another L.A. luminary, Randy Newman: I love L.A.

Talking about books, I found three more books that a local library discarded.   I got lots to read this off-season.

It’s The Worst Frickin Loss Of The Year

August 12, 2010 has to be the worst Dodger loss of the year.

Here is my feable attempt at butchering the song “It’s the Most Wonderful Time Of The Year”   much like Kershaw’s game got butchered last night.

It’s the worst frickin loss of the year

With the bullpen eight run giving

And everyone telling you to leave Kuo in

It’s the worst frickin loss of the year

It’s the sick-sickest season of all

With those trip to the mound and crappiest meetings

When Torre signals a call

Is the sick-sickest season of all

There will be wakes for hosting

Coaches for roasting

And b-itching out in the blogs

There will be scary Dodger stories

And tales of the meltdown

To tell for a long, long time ago.

Is the worst frickin loss of the year

There is so much cursing

And heartburns from the blowing

Of the win that was so, so near

Is the worst frickin loss of the year

There was Bellisario sucking

Blake with an error

And Broxton blowing another good save

There will be scary Dodger stories

And tales of the meltdown

To tell for a long, long time ago

Is the worst frickin loss of the year

There is so much cursing

And hearburns from the blowing

Of the win that was so so near

Is the worst frickin loss

Is the worst frickin loss

Is the worst frickin loss

Is the worst frickin loss of the year

Pictures from the 70’s night at Dodger Stadium

OK I barely had time today to post the pictures from the 70’s night at Dodger Stadium.  Lots of pictures for lots of laughs.

Brady Bunch actor Barry Williams.  He said “That looks like my hair in the 70’s.

The famous Roberto of Vinscullyismyhomeboy took this picture.  Jon Soo Hoo had asked me to pose with his poster.   I did not noticed I had buttoned the shirt wrong until an usher in the club level pointed it out to me!

Later on these two guys showed up for batting practice

Not many people dressed up but I found this guy in the Top Deck.  He was sporting the fake chest hair.

Let’s Get the W with Kershaw on the Mound!

I hear from several fans that they will stop going to games because of status of the Dodgers concerning the ownership but for me…

I am not willing to miss seeing Kemp, Ethier, Loney, Kershaw, Billz, Broxton and Russell, my favorites! Nope, I am not going to miss hearing Vin Scully at the games.

There is no better sound than when I walk inside Dodger Stadium and I listen to Nancy Bea in the background while I walk over to the bullpen area and I hear the sound the ball is making as it hit the mitt. The boys in Blue on the field hitting BP and the pitchers in the outfield catching some baseballs.

Vin already made my day last Sunday by smiling and waiving at my friend Erik and I when we greeted him and wished him to have a happy Easter.

Nope, no matter what, I will be at the stadium, day in and day out. Is is my happy home, it is my home away from home.

There is Sandy Koufax on this picture walking to the field. He is also on the big screen.

Dodgers Stadium Sandy Koufax.jpg

When I am at Dodger Stadium and I look to the field and then take the rest of the view from there with the mountains in the background, all is right with the world.

Yeah, there will be some games that I will be cursing under my breath, but they will others that will be exhilarating and no better way to share those moments than with my friends at the stadium.

Let the second game begin in Pittsburgh! We got 22-year old Clayton Kershaw going this evening.

For those giving Joe Torre a hard time for starting Padilla for the Opener on the road, I say to them, did you hear what Vin Scully said ? If you did not, here it is:

“In Showbiz you would say you are opening a big musical and you would say “Padilla, you are singing the lead in Hartford, Connecticut.  And you would say “Kershaw, you are singing the lead on Broadway.” “

Play Ball!

I love my Dodgers!

 I felt like

 Ok, next a pitcher!

Dodgers Zizling Hot Stove Baseball.

Fist of all, congratulations to the Phillies and their fans!   You are the better team.  Good luck!

Now let the hot stove begin.   Ned and company should start working on the 2010 team now.  He got a lot of work to do.

I want pitchers that can go more than 4 innings.   I want pitchers that can pound the strike zone.

I want a better option at 3rd base.   Casey Blake did not deliver in the postseason.  Can we undo this trade and get back Carlos Santana? and who else did we give there?  Meloan I believe.

Which Rafael is the real deal, the one that played against the Cardinals or the Phillies.

Manny.  Is Manny done?   At times, he looked awful swinging.

Russell has not been the same since making the All-Star game a couple of years back.  His production has been regressing.

Billingsley won 9 games to start the season.  Was it his leg injury that stopped him in the second half?

Broxton will be fine.   Even with his blown save, I’ll take him.  He will get better but you do need a short memory.

Kemp and Ethier are progressing nicely but can Kemp learn to be more patient at the plate?

Who’s on second?   I think we saw the last of Hudson so I am glad that he homered.   So who plays second  Hu?, DeWitt.   BTW, how is Ivan DeJesus progressing?   he had a bad break (leg) back in Spring Training.

Loney needs to step it up.   We need more power from a first baseman.

We need an ACE starter who can go deep into a game.

Bullpen was great up until facing the Phillies but they were overworked.

Who do we bring back?  Wolf, Garland or Padilla?

What is going to happen now that the McCourts are splitting?  oh oh, what a way to start the hot stove with Frank McCourt firing the CEO, Jaime McCourt.

Irony for NLCS game 2: Dodgers’ Padilla against Phillie’s Martinez

I’ve been so busy between work, home getting to the game as soon as the gates are open and leaving very late attending Dodger Talk.   I have not posted in forever!

For those of you that do not know the Dodger Talk hosts, here is Josh Sushon and Ken Levine.  Oh, forgot about that Penny’s bbh that a fan brought and smashed there.

 Ken levine josh suchon.jpg

We’ve seen two good games at Dodger Stadium.   But wouldn’t you say that both games were left open to criticize the managers?

I know the first game many of us Dodger fans were saying “Why oh why did Torre leave Kershaw there too long?

Kershaw cruised along for the first 4 innings but the wheels fell off in the 5th where he allowed a single to Ibanez, a walk to Feliz, a homerun to Ruiz (can’t we get this guy out?) and a walk to none other than the pitcher!   This is where Torre should have removed the kid.  But NOOOO.  Kershaw followed with two wild pitches, another walk(3 in the inning) and a double by Howard.  That is when Torre decided to remove him and bring in Troncoso, who got Wearth to fly out to LF.

A friend was texting me afterwards telling me  “let it go Emma, we’ll get them tomorrow.”  So I stopped feeling blue and started thinking BLUE!

Game 2.   It was so freaking hot for the 1:07 game time.  Heck it was so hot the night before when I had taken my Dodger poncho.  What was I thinking!   Anyway, even in the Top Deck where you usually feel a breeze, there was none so you can imagine how it was sitting in the sun and on the field.

Remember the picture of the Dodger buckle I posted here.  Well, Mike who sits to the left of me in the front row brought me more Dodger memorabillia that he wanted me to see.   There is from right to left.  A 1988 W.S. ring,  1988 money clip, belt buckle with snake skin, a 1988 W.S. belt buckle, Dodgers pin, 1988 W.S. pin, and another ring that lists all the Dodgers World Series the Dodgers have won.

Here is a clearer picture of the rings!

oct 09 rings.jpg

Thanks Mike for showing me your fabulous collection!   Can you imagine Mike paid $6 a ticket for field level in aisle 15?   Those might go for $100 now.

What a pitchers dual we were seeing on the field!   An ex-Phillie and an ex-Dodger were putting a great performance on the field.  The only score in 7 innings, was a home-run by Howard in the 4th.

In the eighth inning, Charlie Manuel batted for Martinez even though Martinez had given up two hits in 87 pitches.  Dodgers could not have more thrilled to get Pedro off the mound.

What an eighth inning that was!  Charlie Manuel used FIVE pitchers!

This is how it was(looking at my scorecard)

Single by Blake off Parks.  Pierre (PR)

Single by Belliard

E4 on Martin (Utley airmailed the throw)  Beliard out

Thome singles to right off Eyre, Martin to third.

Furcal walks off Madson

Kemp K’s on three pitches.  Ugh!

Ethier works the count for a walk off Happ

The FIFTH pitcher, Durbin, quickly retires Manny on a pop to third.

In comes Big Bad John for the save!!

And we happily sing “I LOVE LA!”

I don’t care what Jeff of RedStateBlueState say, Padilla is beautiful!!

Now on to Chilly Philly brrrr.

From Marlins to Road Trip with a Baby to Cardinals

The Dodgers salvaged one game from the three game series with the Marlins and now we start a four game series with St. Louis.

Saturday night, our closer Jonathan Broxton picked up his 7th win!  Broxton has the 3rd most wins in the Team!   Casey Blake delivered a single in the 9th inning to give the Dodgers their 10th walkoff this year!!.  The team had 8 last year

Sunday, Jason Schmidt did not fair well.  an error by Furcal did not help and Weaver did not have it.   I was so rooting for Schmidt to do better.  I believe that Joe Torre will give Schmidt one more start and if he does not do well, that will be it for Schmidt.

Sunday when I got to my seat, there was a nice couple holding a baby and being interviewed by a local TV station next to my seats.   I told them to stay there as I jumped over and gave them room for their interview.  I was curious when I saw their baby girl with a pink bib and pink hat reading “30 ballparks and a baby.”  Baby Sophia is so adorable!!  as you can see in the picture below.

30baab .jpg

I missed getting Judy.  Isn’t baby Sofia adorable?

30ballparksandababy2.jpg

Look at baby Sofia’s bracelets.

You can check their website at www.30ballparksandababy.com.  Buena suerte Judy, Roberto and Sofia!  It was a big pleasure meeting the three of you.  God bless you and keep the three of you safe!

My Dodgers are at St Louis for a four game series.  I was in St Louis a few years back when the Dodgers lost all four games BUT this is a much improved team so Go Dodgers!

I am going to check if any of my good friends that are big Cardinal fans in this picture are going to any of the games.  I know Linda and I wish we were back in St Louis this week so that we can improve on that 0-4 record.

DFW 003.jpg

I just found out my friend Amy from ITD  will be going to tomorrow’s game.

Let’s go Dodgers, Let’s go!!
