September 2012

Feliz Dia de El Locutor. Jaime Jarrin’s Anniversary and I will see Vin Scully on Saturday

Dodgers lost to the Cardinals.  It was another frustrating night at Dodger Stadium with the team lack of hitting.

The highlight of the game  on Thursday:   the Cool-A-Coo!  It hit the spot and brought back so many memories back when I used to watch Fernando pitch, back when Scioscia was behind home plate, back when the team was known as “The Big Blue Wrecking Crew”

Another highlight last night:  Hanging out with  friends especially Lore and little Rachel

Thank you Rachel for my drawing!  I love it!

Here is Rachel again.  She is a cutie.  She and her sister Elizabeth and her parents are season ticket holders.  I’ve been seeing since they were babies.

Jaime Jarrin’s Hollywood Star Anniversary.

On this day, September 14, 1998 – Jaime Jarrin received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

You can find the star on the north side of the 6300 block of Hollywood Boulevard.  Happy anniversary sr. Jaime!

Feliz Dia de El Locutor

Hoy Septiember 14, es  El Dia de El Locutor en Mexico.   Today is Day of the Broadcaster in Mexico.

Felicidades a Jaime Jarrin, Pepe Yniguez y a Fernando Valenzuela!   Ojala que celebren con una victoria de los Dodgers.  Let’s hope you celebrate with a Dodger victory.   Feliciadades muchachos!

Baseball Prospectus event at Dodger Stadium

Saturday I am looking forward to attending the  Baseball Prospectus event at Dodger Stadium.   In addition to  meeting   many of Baseball Prospectus personalities, Vin Scully will also make a special appearance!

There will also be a question and answer session with industry guests including Los Angeles Dodgers Assistant GM, Amateur and International Scouting Logan White.

The private event is sold out so I am glad that I signed up!

So I was remembering reading about the time Hilda Chester colored her hair red to change the Dodgers luck.  They went on to win that day.

Dodgers and Cards battle it out at Dodger Stadium for Four

I have not had time to post here and after the Dodgers performance, I was a little frustrated.

Dodgers lost the two game series with the Diamond Backs at Arizona.  Now they are back at Dodger Stadium but they have not played well at home!   Well, they have not play well on the road either but the home record is worst.

Something got to give since The Cardinals have not done well either.  They got swept by the Padres!   The Padres are playing very well.

Somebody got to score starting tonight!   I was telling a friend at work “The Dodgers can’t score even with  pockets  full of bills in a whorehouse”   haha can I say that here?

I love my Cardinal fan friends but I hope your team goes down tonight! DFW 003.jpg

I wonder if Cardinal girl is going to any of the games.

Let’s Go Dodgers Let’s Go!

*clap clap*

I am heading to the stadium soon!  It is Blanket night although is hot here in the Southland.

Josh Becket faces Lynn.

EXTRA EXTRA!   The Cool -A Coo’s are back at Dodger Stadium!   That can cool me off!

Cool-A-Coo picture from  LA Times .

p.s.  I am excited about the Baseball Prospectus event at Dodger Stadium on Saturday!

What does Bob Feller, Tony Gwynn & Jim Gilliam have in Common?

What does Bob Feller, Tony Gwynn & Jim Gilliam have in common?

They all wore

#19

And their team have retired their number.

A total of five teams have retired uniform #19.

The players, Team and date the number were retired are:

Bob Feller (HOF) –  Indians  –    December 28, 1956

Billy Pierce –  White Sox – July 25, 1987

Tony Gwynn (HOF)- Padres – September 4, 2004

Jim Gilliam – Dodgers – October 10, 1978

Robin Yount (HOF)  –  Brewers –  May 29, 1994

I dedicate my August blog ranking at #19 to all these fine gentlemen!

Bob Feller (HOF)

Bob Feller family farm in Iowa is in the National Register of Historic Places.   It would be so cool to visit this place.

Billy Pierce

Billy Pierce looks so skinny.  His height and weight:  5’10”  160 pounds.

During his 18-year Major League career, pitcher Billy Pierce tossed more than 3,300 innings. He won 211 games, and compiled a sterling 3.27 career ERAHe pitched for the Tigers, White Sox and Giants.

Pierce tossed 38 shutouts lifetime, 193 complete games and was All-Star seven times.  I loved reading about his pitching days even if he pitched well against the Dodgers when he was a Giant.

Tony Gwynn (HOF)

I am glad I got to see Tony Gwynn play.  He is the last hitter to get close to hitting .400.

Jim Gilliam

I remember when Jim Gilliam passed away in October 1978, a few days shy of his 50th birthday.

I dedicated my post before to Jim Gilliam when my blog ranked #19 in May, 2012.  Post here http://crzblue.mlblogs.com/2012/06/02/jim-gilliam-and-the-number-19/  Jim Gilliam is buried in the Inglewood Park cemetary.  I was surprised to find many celebrities buried there.

Robin Yount (HOF)

Robyn Yount spent his entire  20 year baseball career withe the Milwaukee Brewers.

Very nice Q&A from Tom Hoffarth, columnist Inside SOCAL: http://www.dailynews.com/sports/ci_17047393

From the article:

Robin Yount’s family moved from Indiana to Woodland Hills when his dad took a new job at the Rockewell Rocketdyne plant.  Robin Yount was a 1-year-old at the time.

The Taft High Class of ’73 grad was the third overall draft pick that year, and the next April, took over as the Milwaukee Brewer’s starting shortstop at age 18

From the article I like the last sentence of  Yount’s response to one of Tom’s questions:

“My dad and grandfather were big Reds fans.  And, as bad as this is going to sound, and I certainly went through my share of scuffles over it, but I was really a Giants fan.  I don’t know why.  Maybe I liked the color of their uniforms  better.  I remember Mays, Cepeda, Marichal – they were cool guys.  Not that the Dodgers didn’t have them, but something attracted me to the Giants.  Maybe I was too little to know better”

Yeah, I liked the last sentence. :-)

Dodgers at Arizona

Dodgers against the Diamond Backs at Phoenix.  Kershaw & Kemp are back on this September 11th, a day that we will never forget.

Dodger Rubber game at San Pancho. Happy Perfecto Anniversary Sandy Koufax. Crisis! Kershaw scratched

Happy 47th  Perfecto Anniversary to Sandy Koufax!

Today September 9, 2012 is the 47th anniversary of Sandy Koufax Perfect game at Dodger Stadium against the Cubs.

Happy anniversary to Sandy and the Dodgers!

Dodger Rubber game at San Pancho

Great win and much needed by the boys in Blue yesterday.    I go thru so many emotions with this team from frustration to relief  that they tied the series.    I called San Francisco Pancho because that is one of the nicknames for the name Francisco.  Another nickname is Chico, that is what they used to call my grandfather on my mother’s side.  Chico Giants sounds like an oximoron as chico means small.  So Rubber game at San Pancho.

Two lefties to the mound:  Clayton Kershaw (12-8 2.79)  against Barry Zito (10-8, 4.51)  I hope Kershaw gets better run support.

OH NO!   PANIC!   CRISIS!  Clayton Kershaw has been scratched!

Does that baseball Rubber ducky stress reliever work????

Good luck Kerhsaw

And good luck Joe Blanton! May the Dodgers give you some runs

OK, like my friend Rosie said, at least is not Kershaw’s arm.  Dylan Hernandez just posted that Kershaw is scheduled to pitch at Arizona.  I feel a little better.

Let’s Go Blanton!  Let’s go Dodgers!

Dodgers at AT&T Park. Praying to the Baseball Gods, Jobu & St. Rita

I am summing the Baseball Gods

And  Yobu

so the Dodgers can beat the Giants this weekend.   Dodgers need all the help they can get.  A prayer  to St. Rita too is in order

May the Dodgers bats come alive

May the  pitching be superb

May the defense be brilliant

Dodgers beat the Giants!

Josh Beckett for the Dodgers against Tim lincecum.

No Cochito Cruz in the lineup :-(

Dodger lineup:  Mark Ellis 2B, Victorino LF, Gonzalez, 1B, Kemp CF, Ramirez SS, Ethier RF, Kennedy 3B, AJ Ellis C, Josh Beckett P.

Gint Lineup:   Pagan CF, Scutaro 2B, Sandoval 3B, Posey 1B, Pence RF, Belt LF, Sanchez C, Crawford SS, Lincecum P.

Roster update:  Alex Castellanos has been called from Albuquerque.  Calstellanos batted .328 with 17 HR and 52 RBI in 94 games with the Isotopes.

New Game Time on Sept 23. The game time  in Cincinnati on Sunday 9/23 has been changed to start at 8.06 p.m. ET to accomodate the ESPN Sunday Night Baseball.  Flipping Fertilizer!   Now Rosie and I won’t be able to watch that game.  Our flight leaves at 6:51 p.m. that Sunday.  Thanks ESPN.

Dodgers Win on a Walk-off on Labor Day

Labor Day!  What better place to spend the day than at Dodger Stadium!   My friend Lorena was back after being sick for a couple of days!  She brought her two nieces.  Victor and I met them there for early batting practice.   Rosie and her sister Blanca were also there early, as well as Renee and Desiree so we sat there watching batting practice and talking.

See what a beautiful day it was on Labor Day!

Cochito’s first hit of the game.   He would go on to collect four.

I keep seeing some search hits in my blog asking “what does Cochito means?”   It means little pig.     The actual name for little pig is “cochinito” but I guess that is a shorter name, Cochito.

Hanley Ramirez after he hit his homerun on a fly ball to center field on the first pitch.  Note he is on his way to do the “I See You!”

Remember when Ethier had his walk-off walk on April 13, 2012?  No walk up this time but he did tie the game in the 9th with a solo homerun!

The players applauding Cochito Luis Cruz getting another hit!  and the fans chanting cruuuuuuuuuz!

Cochito gets the 4th hit of the night!

I asked Pepe Yniguez thru twitter if he could ask Cochito when is his dad going to come from Mexico to see him play.  Pepe answered that Luis Crus will bring his dad as soon as he gets his dad’s passport in order.  It could be before the month ends.

With two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning, the score tied 3-3 and Ethier and Cochito on base, A.J. Ellis came to bat

A.J. Ellis gets a walk-off single to right field  to score Ethier!

I like this picture  with Andre and Adrian.  They look like they are dancing.

Final score:

And for the second day in a row we have a Walk-off and Steve Lyons getting soaked with whoever is being interviewed.  The night before it was Adrian Gonzalez.  Labor Day it was A.J. Ellis.

So happy to keep on singing “I LOVE LA!”

Thank you Lorena for taking pictures for me!

Dodgers schedule for 2013:

The Red Sox are tentatively scheduled to play three games at Dodger Stadium in August and the Yankees for two games in July.  The Dodgers are scheduled to play at Yankee Stadium in June!   Let it not be the same days as the SABR convention please!

Adrian Gonzales Walk-off Double and now Padres are in Town

What a great win on Sunday!   Adrian Gonzales had struck out twice against the Diamond Backs.  He got lucky in the 7th inning when the baseball gods smiled when Young lost the ball in the sun.  BUT in the 9th inning he came thru with a clean double scoring Mark Ellis and Shane Victorino!

Belisario got the win!   Today Padres sent Werner and the Dodgers will send Blanton.

I ended the night by meeting up with Natalie and Charlie who are visiting from Chicago.  They have been here since Vin Scully night.  Natalie is a long time Dodger fan while her husband Charlie is a Cubs fans.

I finally got to meet Andrew.  He sang “The Boys of Summer”   Natalie did a great job too singing.   Have a nice trip Natalie & Charlie.  See you in Cincinnati!

Happy Labor Day!   $1 Dodger dogs at Dodger Stadium today!  Game at 5:10 p.m.

The Monkey is off their back!

Extra Extra!  The Dodgers finally beat the Diamond Backs!  The monkey is off their back!  Josh Becket got his first win with the Dodgers.   Final score Dodgers 2, Diamond Backs 1.   All three runs on solo homeruns off Hanley Ramirez, Andre Ethier and Justin Upton.

Congratulations Josh on your first win with the Dodgers!

Capuano  goes today against Miley.

Dodgers have added Bobby Abreu to the roster by purchasing his contract from the Albuquerque Isotopes.  bobby will wear #12.

Highlights of Dodgers Diamond Backs series: Vin Scully and Jaime Jarrin

Nothing new to report is just has been frustrating to lose to the Diamond Backs.

Only highlights of these last two games with the Diamond Backs have been:

Vin Scully on his special Bobblehead day.

and Jaime Jarrin signing a three year extension.  Next year will be his 55th year with the team

Felicidades a nuestro maestro Jaime Jarrin!

Josh Beckett on the mound tonight.  Can they break the snake spell?

Wake up Dodgers!

Is frustrating and exasperating being at the stadium night after night and seeing you lose when you can do better than that.
