The Gran Fiesta: Viva Los Dodgers Review. Dodgers Fan Appreciation Day
La Gran Fiesta: Viva Los Dodgers
The Gran fiesta at Dodger Stadium was so crowded and a little disorganized. Maybe the Dodgers were not expecting that many people. They need to expand the area to accommodate the larger crowds. The lines to get in were extremely long. They checked your bags and checked that you had a ticket to the game. After you got in you had to get in line for the autographs. The lines for Cochito Cruz and Adrian Gonzales were unbelievable long. They spilled way outside. The problem was fans that were parking were just getting in line there. The security guards were not noticing that. Also I don’t understand how when we were in line outside before 1:30 at the gates by the Pasadena Freeway entrance, by the time we got out of the car the line to get in into La Gran Fiesta, the line circled around! There were also some regular fans while we were closer to get in that their bags got checked and they let them get in right away.
There should have been a special line for Season Ticket holders. For us that support the team all year around. My friends and I (all of us season ticket holders) never made it to get Cochito Cruz or Adrian Gonzales. By the time we got to the table, there was someone else there. Fans were asking me who he was. It was joe Moeller. Later on someone asked me who were at the other tables. I know fans should know but you had some fairly new fans, fans that is their first time doing that. Maybe the Dodgers should have had large name tags made on the computer explaining who were sitting at the tables.
I did see Pepe Yniguez. Jessica Rosales took this picture where Kenny Landreaux and Pepe were signing. Thanks Jessica! I also got Manny Mota and I showed him his picture when he was with the Houston Colts 45′s organization. Picture posted in prior blog post.

Dodgers win consecutive game with another shutout.
Dodgers won against the Rockies on Friday 8-0 with a great performance by Clayton Kershaw. Blanton pitched a shutout on Saturday with the score of 3-0. Can the Dodgers pitch another shutout? TrublueLa, Eric Stephen said that the last time the Dodgers had a shutout sweep of 3+ games was 1966, a 4-game series against the Astros. Bob Timmermann followed my question of “was this at home or on the road” with “It was at home. Osteen and Koufax had shutouts and the other two were combined efforts” Awesome! I love these two with all their knowledge!
I settle for a win today no matter the score. Is amazing how many players hurt the Rockies have. I have not looked at the records but Dodgers don’t do well on day games so like I said I just want the W. Go Dodgers!
Fan Appreciation Day
Is Fan Appreciation Day. Among the prizes are a one year lease on a car. It used to be that they gave you the car. Also there are the two season tickets. The only thing I have won thru all the years I have attended Fan Appreciation Day was a voucher for Panda Express.
I am just waiting for Monday.
I will explain that in my next post, but I am really excited and a little nervous about this so yes, I am just waiting for Monday! In the meantime I need to head to the stadium! Running late so no pictures until my next post.
La Gran Fiesta: Viva Los Dodgers and A Tribute to Manny Mota

The autograph will start at 2 p.m. with Adrian Gonzalez, Luis Cruz and Hanley Ramirez. I am aiming to be there at 1:30. Hopefully I get to talk to El Cochito

Fernando Valenzuela, Pepe Yniguez and Jaime Jarrin will also be signing I hope Fernando signs something for me like maybe my ticket from Opening Day in 1981 or this picture

Manny Mota being honored for his 50 years in MLB
Manny Mota began his career with the Giants in 1957 out of his native Dominican Republic, and made his major league debut with the Giants in 1962. Before joining the Dodgers, he played for Pittsburgh and Montreal.
In june, 1969, Dodger Vice President Al Campanis pulled of of his greatest deals when he traded for Manny Mota and Maury Wills, giving up Ron Fairly and Paul Popovich in exchange. In late July of that year, Mota delivered his fist pinch hit in a Dodger uniform.
Felicidades Sr. Manuel Jeronimo Mota por sus 50 años en MLB!

From the Cactus League book above. Manny Mota, a rookie with the Houston Colt 45s, poses in front of Geronimo Park in Apache Junction. Looking forward to the Gran Fiesta and Manny Mota being honored!

Dodgers Last Road Series: San Diego
The Dodgers are going into San Diego with a 3-3 road trip record in this their final road trip. They saw the Nationals and the Reds celebrate winning their division. I believe this is the first time that I am on the road seeing another team celebrating.
Josh Becket starts tonight against Volquez.
I am not going to this series but is very tempting to jump into my car and head to San Diego>

Dodgers close the regular season with three games with the Giants starting Monday. Wednesday’s game has a rare start of 4:15 pm.
Cochitos everywhere at Cincinnati Congratulations to the Reds!
I have not been able to post here in Cincinnati. The connection at the hotel and at the ballpark has been horrible.
We saw lots of cochitos here
Too bad we did not get to say hi to Cochito Cruz, maybe when we get back to Dodger Stadium. I have yet to meet him.
We wont be at Sunday’s game because of the ESPN time change
There was an Octoberfest festival across from the hotel.
Weather here was very cold.
We won one game and we lost one. We saw The Reds clinch here with their win. Next year it will be our turn!
Congratulations to Dusty Baker and the Reds! Good luck in the postseason.
Get Well Dusty!
Good luck Jonathan Broxton in the playoff
HAPPY BITHDAY MATT KEMP!!
Happy Birthday Tommy Lasorda and Sweet Lou Johnson
Reblogged from Dodger Blue World:
Today Tommy Lasorda turns 83!
And Sweet Lou turns 76!
When I was at the All-Star Fan-Fest in Anaheim, I went thru two boxes of baseball cards and found these baseball cards from Sweet Lou!
Here is the back of the cards
The second that has a pic of a farmer reads "I wus a Yanky farmer" Lou was in the Yank's farm system in 1953.
The Last Three Videos from the Baseball Prospectus event at Dodger Stadium
I divided the video recording into three four videos so here are the final three.
This one is 5.59 minutes
This one is 2:30 minutes. This is the one where Pensando Azul asks Vinny “what ring is he wearing”. He was wearing 1988 and he said it has been a long time.
And this is the last one. Here is where I asked Vinny if he is going to New York. It is more like I blurted it out.
Vin is right (he is always right) that the Dodgers playing in New York the night before and then the following night in San Diego is …well a little rough. Why is the schedule that way where the Dodgers play Tuesday and Wednesday at Yankee Stadium (why only two games?) and then Thursday thru Sunday at San Diego. Why not a day off on Thursday. I do hope something is changed where Vin can make the game but I understand if he does not.
WE LOVE YOU VIN!!
Baseball Prospectus event at Dodger Stadium. Vin Scully Video One.
Here is the first video I recorded of Vin Scully at the Baseball Prospectus event at Dodger Stadium.
I did not realize until the second day that the first person that asked a question is my twitter friend Pensando Azul. Neither one of us knew the other one was going to be there.
Vin mentioned that he is a fan of Baseball Prospectus. Love the man!
Two more days till I head to Cincinnati
Baseball Prospectus event at Dodger Stadium. Logan White Videos
I was so looking forward to attending the Baseball Prospectus event at Dodger Stadium. Vin Scully was the first speaker. I video taped Vin with my flip but I have not upload that one since that would take a little longer. What I did upload first was the short videos with Logan White. Apologies that I could not video tape the entire Logan White part. I had used most of the time left in the Flip for Vin Scully.
Here is the first of part of Logan White:
Here is the second part of Logan White video taped:
Thank you so much to everyone at Baseball Prospectus that put this event together at Dodger Stadium! Thank you to Joe Hamrahi, Vin Scully, Dan Evans, Logan White and Steve Garvey. I had a wonderful time!
Cochito Cruuuuuuuz saves the day! Vin Scully at Baseball Prospectus event
Thank you Baseball Gods for Cochito Cruuuuuuuuuuz ! Dodger Stadium went crazy when Cruuuuuuuuuz sent the three run homerun deep into the Dodger bullpen. The chant started again “CRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUZ” and an exuberant Cruz came out of the Dodger dugout to acknowledge the fans.

The night started with Andre Ethier hitting a two run homerun. After the game was over I was able to wish “good night” to Vin Scully who answered me back with a “Good Night”
The fireworks were extra special with the win and the music set to Mexican music. Lorena and I were singing along.
Saturday: Baseball Prospectus event with Vin Scully!
I am heading to the stadium for this special event!
Today September 15, is Honduras Independence! Felicidades la patria que me vio nacer! Yes, I was born in Honduras.
