August 2012

Why are the Diamond Backs dominating the Dodgers this year?

Why are the Diamond Backs dominating the Dodgers this year?

I don’t know the answer.   Is one of those baseball misteries.  The D’Backs came into Dodger Stadium with a six game losing streak.  But the other record they had going was six straight wins against the Dodgers.  Well, make that seven now.

Dodgers wasted a good outing by Clayton Kershaw.   They lost 2-0 on Vin Scully Day.   The only good thing about yesterday was honoring Vin Scully.  Vin was the highlight, the rainbow.

Dodgers have hit some slide with the Rockies and Diamond Backs.

they are now 4 1/2 games back.

Jaime Jarrin was saying on twitter that the Giants are probably singing “La Distancia entre los dos es cada dia mas grande”     which means the same as “The distance between us grows and grows”

C’mon Dodgers snap out of it!

tonight: Trevor Cahill  for the D’Backs against Aaron Harang.

Congratulations to Jaime Jarrin!   He will return next year for his 55th year with the Dodgers.  He has signed a three year contract!   Felicidades Maestro!

Stan Kasten Q&A with LA Times Bill Dwyre video. Vin Scully Day!

Last night I went to the Q&A with Stan Kasten moderated by Bill Dwyre.  I had tape recorded the whole event but my brother Vic erased it by mistake.  But here is a little video.   I should have been standing to record  it as I did not have a good view from where I was sitting.

Thank you Stan Kasten, LA Times, Bill Dwyre! Thank you Lorena for inviting me!

Vin Scully Day!
Today is finally Vin Scully Day! It is extra special because Vin Scully will come down from the Vin Scully Press Box and throw out the first pitch!

Clayton Kershaw is pitching for the Dodgers against Ian Kennedy of the Diamond Backs.
The lineup for the Dodgers:
Punto 2B
Victorino CF
Gonzalez 1B
Ramirez SS
Ethier RF
Luis Cochito Cruuuuuz 3B
Rivera LF
AJ Ellis C
Kershaw P

Let’s win for Vin! Let’s go Dodgers!

Vin Scully we love you!

Dodgers for Lunch on Getaway Day. Please don’t get swept

Dodgers for Lunch on Getaway Day at Coors Field.  Please do not get swept!

I ‘ve been so busy today that I forgot the game started early on Getaway day.  Oh I so hope the Dodgers don’t get swept by the Rockies.   You never know what can happen at Coors Field.

The record of the Dodgers sweeping and getting swept stands at:

Dodgers Have Swept Gotten Swept
At Dodger Stadium Pirates, Padres, Rockies, Cardinals, cubs Brewers, Diamond Backs Giants
Away Phillies, Mets, Giants Giants, Athletics

Dodgers lost the first game 10-0  Beckett gave up three runs.   Second game Dodgers lost to the Rockes by the score of 8-2.

In this 3rd game, I See You Hanley Ramirez hits a two run blast!   Dodgers leading the 3rd game 6-0   !!   Dylan Hernandez, LA Times Dodger beat writer,  had reported after two innings that Drew Pomeranz had a perfect game thorugh two innings.  Thanks Dylan for breaking it! ;-)  Blanton is enjoying this bouquet of runs.

LA Times in Sports with Stan Kasten -Event

A big thank you to my friend Lorena for inviting me to this event: Times in Sports with Stan Kasten.  The event is at Dodger Stadium today August 29, 2012 at 7:p.m.

The event will feature a live Q & A with new Dodgers President and CEO Stan Kasten, moderated by Bill Dwyre of the Los Angeles Times, largely driven by questions that were submitted earlier but  questions can also be submitted during the Q & A on twitter, using the hashtag #timesinsports.

Stan Kasten with Vin Scully

Reminder:  Tomorrow is Vin Scully bobblehead!

Get to Dodger Stadium early!!     is going to be a busy day tomorrow with Vin Scully bobblehead.

Adrian Gonzales debut as a Dodger, Vin Scully will be back next year! Yankees & Red Sox in 2013

Adrian Gonzalez Debut as a Dodger

“Looks like a another perfect day!  I love LA!”   That is how Saturday 8/25/2012 turned out to be!   Adrian Gonzalez was at the game in time to be in the lineup.  Adrian comes to his  first at bat as a Dodger with Mark Ellis and El Cochito Luis Cruz on.  Next thing you know Adrian goes

A three run homerun!   Welcome to Hollywood!  Welcome to LA Adrian!

There were four BOOMS at the stadium:    Giancarlo Stanton for the Marlins.  Adrian Gonzalez, Mark Ellis and Andre Ethier for the Dodgers.

Andre Ethier breaks record of Consecutive Hits  with 10 STRAIGHT HITS

Andre tied the LA record for Consecutive Hits of  nine set by Ron Cey.  Andre then broke that record with his 10 consecutive hit in the seventh inning.  He tied a Dodger record set in 1919 by first baseman Ed Konetchy.   In addition, Andre also was a triple short of a cycle.  Mark Ellis also was short of a cycle.

KERSHAW gets win #12

Kershaw pitched a three hitter giving up two runs and striking out eight for his 12th win.  Final score:  Dodgers 8, Marlins 2.

VIN SCULLY WE LOVE YOU!  WE LOVE YOU MORE FOR COMING BACK NEXT YEAR!

Could Saturday night get any better?   Well yes!   Vin Scully announced that he is coming back in 2013!

It is Vin Scully Bobblehead Thursday August 30th when the Dodgers face the Arizona D’Backs.

And come 2013, the Dodgers finally will go to Yankee Stadium!   The Red Sox will be coming to Dodger Stadium in August of 2013.

James Loney Appreciation Post

Lorena was reminding me of the time we went to see a Dodgers Spring Training game then after the game we headed to Las Vegas to watch the Dodgers play the next day against the Chicago Cubs.  At Holman Stadium, there was this Cubs fan  guy sitting in back of us saying “I hate Loney!”  He is a Cubs killer!”

James Loney hit a grand slam off Ryan Dempster in the fifth inning. It gave the Dodgers a 4-2 lead.

Cubs center fielder Jim Edmonds watching James Loney’s grand slam in the fifth. It gave the Dodgers a 4-2 lead in Game 1 of their series

Video of signing the Loney song to Loney here  http://crzblue.mlblogs.com/2011/03/21/follow-the-dodgers-from-la-to-az-to-nv/

My Loney has a first name is J A M E S

My Loney has a second name is L O N E Y

Oh I love to see him every day and if you ask me why I say…

Cause Loney has a way with H I T T I N G

I was watching the first game with the Marlins from the Field level when a friend alerted me that James ‘s dad was sitting in our row in the late innings.  I headed upstairs to say hello to him and wish James Loney good luck thru him.  I had a little chat with him.  I am not going to repeat everything he said but basically he said that James probably needed a change.   Raissa is in the picture.  She used to be in the Loge area where the Dodger family sit.

We saw James go out on the field at the conclusion of the game to celebrate with the team the win.  Afterwards his hand went to his face.  Got a little emotional then.

I have followed these kids careers since the minor leagues.  I remember seeing James Loney at Vero Beach.   When a couple of guys from the ITD (InsidetheDodgers) blog (blog is no longer being updated) came up with the Loney Song, my friend Erik and I started signing it to him at Dodger events, at Dodger Stadium, at Spring Training, on road trips.

showing James a picture Lorena took of James Loney’s dad and I in Fenway Park.

One of the best Dodger Caravans was at Panda Inn in Pasadena where the Dodgers were our waiters.   Lorena, Erik, a friend of Lorena and I had James Loney and Pepe Yniguez as our waiters although the person that brought us our food was Andre Ethier.   This was in 2008.  I remember James Loney asking us “Is there anything I can bring you guys?’  “Do you guys want a photograph, an autograph?”   We were just so happy to be there and having him as our waiter.  My picures ae stored elsewhere but here is a picture I found online

  Loney Friday night 8/24/2012.

Farewell James, thanks for the memories and being nice to us fans.  Play well, give your best!  No slacking off.

At  a Photo Day

Thank you for your work in the community James!  Be good!

Adrian Gonzalez, Crawford, Beckett, Punto could be Dodgers! Oh My!

My head is spinning with all the trade rumors and Dodgers moves.

I used to love seeing Adrian Gonzalez in San Diego and was sad to see him go to the Red Sox even if he hit well against the Dodgers.

My twitter account was going crazy with:

The Dodgers were awarded a claim on Adrian Gonzales

Adrian has a limited no trade clause but can’t block a move to the Dodgers

Dodgers claim Beckett

Red Sox working on deal that would send AGon, Crawford, Beckett and Punto to LA

Dodgers recalled outfielder/infielder Alex Castellano adn optioned Rubby De La Rose to AAA.

How did the entire NL pass on claiming Rubby???

De La Rosa claimed by Bluejays.  Sent down would be a PTBNL in RedSox deal

From GordonEdes:  Dodgers discussed in Red Sox deal:  De La Rosa, Loney, De Jesus, Sands and another top prospect.

From Jaime Jarrin:  David Gonzalez, father of Adrian Gonzalez is happy of the possibility of having AGon back in California if Dodgers and Red Sox come to an agreement.

In the meantime the Marlins are in town.  Ex-Dodger Eovaldi on the mound against Barbarroja Chad Billingsley.

time to get ready to head to the Ravine.  My phone has been going crazy today!   It will be hard not to pick it up while I drive to the stadium as it keeps notifying me of more news.

Update:  James Loney scratched from the original lineup.

Dodgers Bowling Extravaganza & Bad Moon Rising

Dodgers are off today.   They got swept by the hated Giants at home.  It was sad being at Dodger Stadium and watching this.  Dodgers never led in any of the three games.

So what are some Dodgers doing tonight?

Bad Moon Rising: Baseball and the Summer of ’68

The bowling is too much money for me  so tonight I will be at the Bad Moon Rising:  Baseball and the Summer of ’68 exhibition at the Burbank Central Library.   The exhibition is up until September 27, 2012 but tonight is the discussion and book signing with Tim Wendel, author of Summer of ’68: The Season that Changed Baseball-and America-Forever.

The event is free and is put together by the Baseball Reliquary.

Among the topics examined in the exhibition are the record-setting achievevements of pitchers Bob gibson, Denny McLain and Don Drysdale, baseball reaction to the assassinations of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert Kennedy, the World Series matchup between the St. Louis Cardinals and Detroit Tigers, the riots, the final major league season for Mickey Mantle, the emergence of Football.

Dodgers can’t hit but we got hit with big Postseason Invoice

I don’t know what is wrong with this Dodger team.  They can hit on the road but not at home?  They have lost the first two to the hated Gints.  Can it get worst?  Well, yeah, now they face Cain.

PLEASE BATS WAKE UP!!  !

No!  Not those bats!   These bats!

Dodgers can’t hit but we Dodger season ticket holders got hit with the playoff bill!   Holly Cow!

Need to cut down on some spending  especially with an upcoming road trip to Cincinnati.  Dodger invoice   is due September 7, 2012.   Like Rosie said on Twiter “..So I packed a can of soup for lunch tomorrow after getting my invoice.  Gotta watch my spending.   Eeekk!!”

The postseason invoice includes billing for 11 possible home games:  Three Wild Card/Division Series.  four league Cahmpionship Series and four World Series games.   You must purchase entire strip of tickets.

What is my bill?  Double what I pay for the entire season plus a little more.

Capuano on the mound tonight against Cain.

Barbarroja Chad Billingsley. Cochito Cruz! Baseball Reliquary event

Barbarroja Chad Billingsley

Jaime Jarrin has nicknamed Chad Billingsley Barbarroja because his beard is coming out red.  Jaime said during one of his transmission that he told Billingsley that he calls him that.  Billz said he likes it.

There is a Barbarroja beer in Argentina.

Billingsley  record with the beard is  is 5-0 in his last five games with a 1.56 ERA

El Cochito Luis Cruz

Jaime Jarrin and Pepe Yniguez report that El Cochito Cruz talks to his dad every day about how he is doing.  His dad watches him on the internet.  He tells him “you did this right, you should open this way, you did this wrong.  Cochito cruz Sr. used to play in the Mexican League.   As I edit this Cochito Cruz just hit a homerun!

The Nickname:  Cochito

The nickname “Cochito” refers to “el Cochinito”  which means a little pig.  Luis Cruz Sr. was known by that last name so his son inherited the nickname.

Back to Back to Back Homeruns

Congratulatios to the guys that hit the back to back to back   Hanley Ramirez, Loney and CochitoCruz.    If someone had told you that there were four homeruns in the Dodger game you would have figured that Kemp and Ethier were included in there but no.  There were four hits in the game and all four were homeruns.

The Baseball Reliquary and “Not Exactly Cooperstown”

Watching the game and later I am heading to the the Pasadena Library for the screening of “Not Exactly Cooperstown”    Tom Hoffarth has a Q&A with the filmmaker Jon Leonoudakis hhttp://www.dailynews.com/sports/ci_21347428/sunday-q-tom-hoffarth-filmmaker-happy-reliquary-is

Jon is a Giant fan but I don’t hold that against him but I want to see what he has to say about Melky.   Oh yeah, fans are encouraged to show up dressed in their baseball gear.  I think I will dress as Hilda Chester.  Still looking for my bag that says “Hilda is Here!”

Get away game for the Dodgers with the Braves then home to play three with the Giants.  Go Dodgers!

Happy birthday Roberto Clemente and Lorena. Civil Rights Game. Not Exactly Cooperstown film

Happy birthday Roberto Clemente!    Roberto would have been 78 today August 18, 2012.  In addition to heck of a player, he was a great humanitarian.

Today is also my friend Lorena’s birthday.   Happy birthday kid!   That is nice that you share a birthday with the great one, Roberto Clemente.

Dodgers in Atlanta.  Civil Right Game.  Don NewCombe

Dodgers at Atlanta.   They have lost two in a row.  Don Mattingly will start serving his two day suspension today.   It does not look like Matt Kemp will be suspended.   Angel Campos should not have ejected him for cheering for Andre Ethier.  Today is the Civil Right game.

Today Don Newcombe received the Beacon of Hope Award.  Congratulations Mr. Newcombe!

Not Exactly Cooperstown

Tomorrow at the Pasadena Library is premier of the documentary “Not Exactly Cooperstown” by Jon  Leonoudakis.
