Dodger FanFest, Bill Veeckfest, Interleague & the Cardinals are at Dodger Stadium.

Saturday is the first Dodger FanFest at Dodger Stadium. Originally I was scheduled to go to the Baseball Reliquary Bill VeeckFest but I am going to the Dodger Fanfest and I will have someone tell me all about the Veeckfest and have them buy me the biography “Bill Veeck: Baseball Greatest Maverick” by Paul Dickson. The program include a panel discussion on the legacy of Bill Veeck, film screening & book signing.

Interleague starts today but not for the Dodgers. The St Louis Cardinals are in town. The Angels pay a visit to the Padres. Dodgers don’t start interleague until June 8th when they go to Seattle. I will be there with my friend Lorena and another friend that will join us is Rosie. We are so looking forward to that trip. Safeco Field will be a new stadium for the three of us. At the SABR conference in Long Beach, I met a Mariner fan. I saw her again at the SABR Fall League conference in Arizona. I am going to see if I can contact her.

The schedule for the FanFest event is as follows:
12:00 p.m.-12:30 p.m.: Autograph session with Scott Elbert, Elian Herrera, Adam Kennedy, Josh Lindblom, Jerry Sands, Matt Treanor, Scott Van Slyke.

4:30 p.m.-5:00 p.m.: Tommy Lasorda addresses fans.
5:00 p.m.-5:30 p.m.: Autograph session with Jaime Jarrin, Fernando Valenzuela, Pepe Yniguez.
5:30 p.m.-6:00 p.m.: Autograph session with Tommy Lasorda.

Entry to the event is free with your ticket to the evening’s contest against the Cardinals. There will also be a wine tasting of Tommy Lasorda’s wine for season ticket holders with their VIP card.

In the meantime is Fireworks Night to the 80’s music. Dodgers have been paying tribute to decades with the Fireworks and also having a highlight video from that decade. 80’s is a good one with two World Series & Fernandomania. I got my 1981 t-shirt on and my satin Dodger jacket.

Wait, do the Dodgers have their Fan Fest during the season? If so, I think that’s the first time I’ve seen that. Also, in regards to your comment from the “Jamie Moyer” entry, I just realized that I will be missing the SABR convention by only about a week as I’ll be there on July 10th for a University of Minnesota orientation session, and did you mean to say you’re considering coming to the Dodgers series at Citi Field, by the second part of the comment? I am 99% certain I’ll be there since I will be trying to snag a Dodgers Stadium 50th anniversary ball.

Wow, your Fanfest sounds much better than our Fanfest! Those are seriously drool-worthy interviews. We had a fun panel with Clyde Wright, Chuck Finley, Jim Abbott, Garrett Anderson and Mike Webb, but not the sheer number of interviews you had. I hope it was as fun as it sounds! And enjoy your trip to Seattle!! I am hoping to make it up there sometime in the next two seasons.

Mateo,
This was the first one for the Dodgers. It was a long day with the game at 7:10 but I had a great time & the Dodgers won! At least today’s game is at 5 p.m. today instead of the usual 1:10 pm game.
Too bad we will miss you at the SABR convention by a week.
I will see if I can make New York. Will let you know.

Kristen,
I throughly enjoyed the Vin Scully making a brief appearance. Tommy’s enthusiasm at the event. Jaime, Pepe & Fernando. Hearing from the infield of Lopes, Cey & Russell. Garvey could not make it. Steve Yeager, Ned Colletti, Monday. Don Mattingly. I got to ask questions at four of those interviews. tasted four different Tommy Lasorda wines. Spent the time with friends & fam. Kerhsaw pitched great blanking out the Cardinals! What more could you ask!
