Spring Training or Bust and Dodgers Opening Day Update
Camelback Ranch or Bust
Spring Training here we come! We drive Saturday night from the LA area bound to Glendale, AZ or Bust! We’ll see if we get stopped because we are Hispanics J We’ll report from Arizona. Countdown: Five days!
37 days till Opening Day
When I first heard that ESPN wanted to broadcast Opening Day for The Dodgers against the Giants, I was not happy. My first thought was “Oh NO!” No Vin Scully!” That is sacrilegious! Vin is entering his 62nd season as voice of the Dodgers and this will be his 54th home opener in Los Angeles
But serenity has been restored! It has been announced that Vin will be covering the game on the radio doing innings one to three and seven to nine. Ah! I feel much better. Listening to Vin Scully makes TV unnessary but I’ll be at the game!
I am also glad that the Dodgers held their ground because if it was up to ESPN, the game would have been moved to Frisco! Still I am not happy that it got moved to an evening to accommodate TV.
Opening Day was supposed to be Friday April 1‘st but because of ESPN, it will be Thursday March 31st at 5.P.M Pacific Time. Unlike some, I was able to change my vacation day. BTW, I argued with my boss that it should be a holiday since I call Dodger Stadium, Our Lady of Chavez Ravine but he would not buy it.
To hold us up until we get to hear Vin Scully again, here is Bill Buckner 1986 game or 9th Inning of Sandy Koufax”s Perfect Game

Growing up in Chicago we always hated when the Cubs were on a national broadcast because that meant no Harry Caray. We were dumb kids and too stupid to watch TV with the sound down and listen to Harry on the radio.

Very exciting that you’re going to AZ this weekend, Emma. I’m sure we’ll be in for some great pics after your trip. And no, please don’t get stopped by the cops, although you have all of us to bail you out.

GG,
That is one thing I like about getting the MLB audio, I could listen at work some games and it gave me a chance to hear other games like Harry.
.
Jane,
YEs, I am excited about going to AZ this weekend. Only thing is I came down with a cold again. sigh.. so I hope to be much better by Saturday. Also to top it off, my lower back went out on me so I am walking funny but hopefully I’ll be better soon. I am just taking it easy.
Oh no! I just read from Polo of Dodgers on Demand that PAdilla is back in LA for an MRI. No bueno.
Our Lady of Chavez Ravine! I love it! Clearly your boss needs to watch Bull Durham and familiarize himself with the Church of Baseball and all of our high holy days. 🙂
I’m glad they worked it out so Vin is announcing at least part of the Opening Day game. Vin is the voice of baseball plain and simple. And I’m thrilled you all get to go to Spring Training. Have a blast!! I can’t wait to read all about it.

How the Giants pulled that off last year? I think people are still wondering. Part of me wishes that the Jays played Spring Training in Arizona with the fresh air and the occasional desert rain. Although we have our AAA team in Vegas now, so I wouldn’t mind checking them out. I’m jealous because I wish that I was making a road trip to Spring Training right now to escape the weather.
I hope you have a great time.

Kristen,
That is an excellent idea. I need to bring him the movie so he and his daughter can watch it. I offered to take his little girl to a game. You know the first game at Camelback Ranch is against the Angels. I am going to see if I can get a pic of Mike Scioscia and see if he can sign a Dodger pic
.
WLRoy,
I have no idea how the Jints pulled that off. You know having your AAA team in Vegas is easier to fly there and once there you don’t need a car. Public transportation runs 24 hours. The facility is within walking distance of Downtown Las Vegas. Dodgers used to have their A team there. It was the reason I used to go to Vegas ’cause I don’t like gambling.
YES! spring training!! I’m SO excited!
Sorry for being inactive for quite a long time but now i’m back! I hope you are doing well and getting ready for a great season of baseball! 😀
Opening day rivalry? Well, no better way to start off a season than against the World Series champions eh? 😀

I think opening day for all teams should be a holiday! Sadly, I will be “sick” that day ;o)

Mimi is back! YAY! Welcome back! You know we open the Spring Training at Camelback Ranch against the Angel! Can’t wait to be there.
.
You got that right Jenn! Opening Day should be a holiday. Just start coughing the day before Opening Day 😉
That’s so exciting you’re heading to Arizona. A few years ago, my wife and I were in Vegas and missed the Cubs/White Sox game by a week. I was dissapointed.

Mark,
You probably already know this, but the Cubbies will be in Vegas playing the Dodgers for a Spring Training game.
