Feliz Dia de los Reyes! The Three Kings brought me a present!

Today January 6th,  is the day of the Three Kings or the Three Wise Men.

The three kings were late to bring presents to baby Jesus.  They finally arrived on January 6th.   It is a day well celebrated in Latin America.  Instead of believing that Santa Claus brings you presents, kids believe the three Kings bring them.

I got a present in the mail today from the three Kings!

Ok, so it was not the Three Kings  that brought me a bottle of Tommy Lasorda wine.  It was my friend Sandi who was here in the LA area visiting last week!    Thank you Sandi!   You shouldn’t have but I love it!!

After I picked up Sandi last week and we had lunch at Portos Bakery, guess where we went?

Here we are at Santa Barbara with Julie who is another Cardinal fan.

Coming back from Santa Barbara, we stopped at Jeff Suppan’s restaurant “Soup’s Grill”.  jeff was the nicest person.  He even gave us one of his baseball cards that he made specifically for the Grand Opening of his restaurant.  Thanks Jeff!   You rock!  I hope you do sign with a team soon!

Sandi took a ton of pictures from the Rose Parade, the two wine tasting places, Soup’s Grill, the Equestrian Festival, the Griffith Observatory.

Thank you Julie for driving us to Santa Barbara.  It was fun hanging with you two in Santa Barbara and Woodland Hills (Jeff’s restaurant & Trader’s Joes (Sandi had never been)   Wine was good, company great and I loved Polo’s suggestion of going to the Santa Barbara  Shell Fish Co.   Is a small world that Polo  suggested also to go to Surf Dog for a Dodger Dog.   I know about  Surf Dog because of Jane Heller.

Thank you Sandi!  I loved having you here in LA and I got to go to places that I had not been to even if I am a local here.

Is great to hang with Baseball friends!    The Rose Parade theme was just perfect:  “Building values, friendships and memories.

visit Jeff’s Suppan restaurant at http://www.soupsgrill.com/  He has a ton of baseball memorabillia.

So glad you had fun in Santa Barbara. I sure wish you’d been able to stop at Surf Dog’s exit on the freeway and had a Dodger dog (and said hello from me). How cool to get a bottle of LASORDA wine! I had no idea Tommy was in the vineyard business.

Jane,
See the things you learn from my blog :-) lol. Next time I’ll go visit Surf Dog and I will say hello from you and my friend Polo. I am going to suggest to Polo to interview him. He works for Time Warner Cable and covers the Dodgers.

Wow do I see the bottle of famous Lasorda wine often referred to in Mr. Lasorda’s Twitter? It’s the best gift for a Dodgers fan! And what a beautiful sky you have in Santa Barbara! It’s too cold here in Japan…

Emma: Even though I’ve lived in NY my whole life, there are still places within the state I haven’t seen yet. Looks like you had fun. Happy New Year!

I hope you enjoyed the glories of the holiday season. Congrats on making the top 100!one stop ahead of me!

That sounds like a great trip. Isn’t it funny how many places you never go in your own home state until friends from out of state come to visit? I grew up in Burbank and hardly ever went to Hollywood until I went “all the way” to Los Angeles (well, Eagle Rock) for college and friends from back east wanted to see the Walk of Fame and do the tourist thing. I didn’t know Tommy Lasorda had a wine label. Too cool!

Hey Emma!
Sounds like you had a great time! I’ve been to Soup’s Grill; I like the place. Don’t you love the baseball mitt table??? It’s great! I don’t know if you remember, but Jeff Suppan and I “kinda, sorta” have some things in common. Jeff grew up on the same block of the same street that I did; he’s just a lot younger than me. But his family is very good friends with our old right-across-the-street neighbors. But with the age difference and I’m the youngest of my family, we never knew the Suppan’s growing up. But some day I’ll go to Soup’s Grill and meet Jeff in person; I’d like that a lot! Well, take it easy.

Nao! Happy New Year!
Sandi was lucky it was nice while she was in the LA area and Santa Barbara. Lasorda’s wine bottle was a great surprise.
.
Virginia,
Happy New year to you too! I am ashame to admit that I have never been to some places in the LA area like the Paul Getty Museum.
.
Matt,
I saw you were right after me! Congrats!
.
Kristen,
Sandi made me aware of more places that I have not been to.
Everytime Tommy was at locations signing his wine when it first came on the market, I could not attend or find out too late but I’ll get him to sign this bottle one of this days.
.
Carol, I love the table and the chair made like a glove, the seats outside, the whole wall of baseballs behind the bar. The whole place is great. Small world that he lived on your street. The two times I’ve been there he was there. He was the nicest both times although he was eating the last time. He had gotten up to walk his baby girl and like I said, he was the nicest guy. Next time you go, tell your waitress or waiter your story and they might let you know if he is there or shows up. Good luck!

Ah ha! I see you DO keep great company! (Cardinals fans = Great company)

I sure do keep great company Jeff. I love my Cardinal fan friends!

Thanks Mark! I was surprised when he offered us the baseball cards he made for the restaurant Grand Opening. I think we were speechless that he said “If you don’t want them…” But of course we wanted the cards! It was an honor that he offered!

Emma,
Glad you had a fantastic adventure with a fellow she-fan who hails in Pujols-land. Cardinal Girl wrote a great blog, and both of your accounts of the day are amazing and that was before the treat at dinner.
Meeting Jeff Suppan and getting that picture must have been the highlight of the night, but I bet the tales, laughs and hijinks of your LA journey is going to be remembered for a long, long time!
BTW, The Three Kings have good taste in wine…….They must be from the Napa Valley side of the family.

Thanks Cliff.
I read Cardinal girl. She is a great writer. I also follow her food blog. She has been doing recipes with Jello.
Getting to talk to Jeff was the highlight of being there. Again, he was the nicest guy and he seemed like he remembers Cardinal Girl and I from our trip last time (like three years ago?)
I want to taste Lasorda’s wine but I think I want Tommy to sign it as is.
