Jury Duty, The McCourts and the Dodgers

Thursday was my first day reporting for Jury Duty in Downtown LA.   After waiting all morning, a group of us were told to report after lunch (1:30) to the 9th flloor.    We were told the 9th floor has an extra security check.   Before I went to lunch I asked a sheriff why the extra security there.  He said because of the celebrities and cases that …well  required extra security.

So guess who is our judge?

I like judge Ito.   I go back to Jury Duty today for the final selection of the jurors.   I have not been picked.   I think I am one of the few that does not mind serving Jury Duty.

While being in Downtown, I picked up the LA Downtown News  newspaper Check this cartoon I found in the paper by Doug Davis.

I love Doug Davis cartoons.  Check this one out too.

Dodgers have dropped six in a row now after dropping the first game against the Astros.

Que?! Judge Ito..the first reality show ever?! LOL I remember watching that whole trial! Hysterical you have him! What’s happening with the McCourts is even getting me sick. The Dodgers used be more powerful than Steinbrenner. That’s the Dodgers I remember growing up. They were always among the decision makers in MLB. What happened is sad. RE cartoons.

LOL Mike! that is right! Judge Ito was the first reality show! Who knew! Yeah is sad what has happened to the Dodgers lately.

I can’t believe you had Judge Ito! I thought he would have retired by now. Pretty crazy about the McCourts and the divorce. What a soap opera.

Emma,
I also loved doing my two Jury Duty selections over the years, even got two cases out of it.
One was over in a day, stupid kid did not know the video picked his face up perfectly.
The second was a DUI with an ex-professional athlete that no longer lives in this area. That last 3 days and he got the book thrown at him…2 times the legal limt and was found sleeping at a redlight. Still glad it did not turn into a DUI-vehicular Negligence case if he had killed someone behind that wheel.
Hope you get something that you will remember fondly for your Jury selection….with a little Ito on the side.

A lot people thought judge Ito had retired but nope, there he is in the 9th floor. Just don’t look for a name plate. Seems like the name plates it disappearing so he just keeps the door without one.

I’m another who enjoys serving on jury duty, even though a lot of people think I’m crazy when I say that. Hey, where else can you get paid for sitting around reading a book? Actually, he (or the case) was not the first reality show. But you should have asked him if he gets out to any Dodger games. :) Did you know Judge Ito just had his 60th birthday? Being a native Angeleno, I would think he’s a big Dodger fan.

Trivia here: Remember what else happened in L.A. the same day the verdict came down?

Who knew Judge Ito has four identical siblings? ;-) Funny video, Leno looks so young! I guess that is one of the interesting aspects of living in LA – you never know what “celebrity” you’re going to cross paths with.

Linda,
That is three uf with Rays that we enjoy serving jury dtuy. I wish I would have gotten a chance to talk to him but they found further evidence and we were all dismissed. I was waiting to be picked and when he would asked me “what do you like doing in your spare time?” I would have said go to Dodger Stadium. I would think he is a Dodger fan. 60? WOW!
What else happened on that day?
.
Sue,
I know! Leno looks so young! Yep! you never know who you run into.

That was the same day the 1995 NLDS started, in L.A., Dodgers vs. Reds. Traffic was worse than usual because of all the media traffic in downtown L.A. and getting to the Ravine must have been terrible, although I wasn’t at the game. I just remember hearing about it on the news how the eyes of the world were on the courthouse in downtown L.A. but there was still a baseball game to be played at 5 p.m. It was the Dodgers’ first home playoff appearance since Game 2 of the 1988 World Series. Of course the Dodgers lost, the first of all those many years of playoff losses until Jose Lima broke the string, 9 years later.

Linda,
I know I can count on your memory! You know how bad mine is. I bought one book and tia Nora said “you already have that one.” Oh well, I bought it used anyway.
.
Jeff,
And all eyes looked at that drama. I happen to be in Vegas during O.J.’s chase and everyone was glued to the TVs watching the chase.
