June 2010

Giddiness ! Dodgers sweep the Giants!

Can you believe Matt Cain is 0-8 against the Dodgers!  Jonathan Sanchez is 0-5.    That is 0-13 for two of the Giant starters.

Dodgers Swept the Giants to end the June gloom with a 14-13 record.  Dodgers just love to play against their own division.   On to Arizona for three now.

I am just amazed at the amount of double plays that the Giants hit into.  They are leading the league in that category!.   Vin Scully was saying “….and yet another double play.”

Love Vin Scully! in the second game when the Panda was caught at second.  He said “The Panda turns into a pussycat”    LOL.

You know why the Panda was caught at second?

LOL   I love that picture!

Congratulations to Padilla on his #100 win!

Dodgers Lose, Dodgers Win. Check out this MLB All-Star FanFest Special!

   Torre.jpg

I did not want to blog after the Dodgers lost that heartbreaker in the 9th to the Yankees.   We all left the stadium so demoralized

Hey Torre:  Did you fall asleep in the 9th?

But we won last night against the hated ones on my birthday!!   YEAH!!

Young John Ely goes tonight against Cain.  Let’s see what this game brings us.   Truebluewill was reminding me of the Dodgers record against the NL West!  19-5!    We swept the Padres earlier in the year so yeah let’s play the NL West!

MLB All-Star FanFest  Special courtesy of Pepsi!

MLB Fan-Fest Special from Pepsi.jpgI went to the Vons and noticed this special last Sunday.   Checkout the voucher!

If you spend $20 in qualifying Pepsi products, you can earn two free tickets to the MLB All-Star FanFest.    The tickets cost $30 each so this is a pretty good deal.   Thanks Pepsi!

I don’t care for Pepsi, but I bought products made by Pepsi like Gatorade and Aquafina water If they don’t call me to volunteer for the Fan-Fest, then I already have a voucher for tickets.

Woohoo!!  I just got the email that says “Congratulations!’  You have been accepted to the 2010 Major League Baseball All-Star  FanFest Volunteer Team!

Dodgers Win! Furcal Web Gem! I met Jane Heller!

When we were down 3-0 in the first inning, I was saying”Oh boy here we go again, having a bad first inning.”   but the boys came back and Kuroda-san settle down.   Kuo was NASTY!  Was that really a 98 MPH fastball he threw?!?!

The game ended with a great play by Furcal.  It was the #1 Webgem for Saturday:

Let me say this again,  “(insert team) suck” has to be the most immature, stupid chant I’ve ever heard.   You don’t hear it with the regular season ticket holders around me and I imagine with true Dodger fans and Baseball fans.    I also don’t boo great players.

On his birthday, Derek Jeter struckout three times.  Kuroda, Kuo and Broxton struck him out.  Joe Torre was quoted as saying “Well, it was my present to him”

Earlier in the day, Joe Torre and Derek Jeter had gone to the John Wooden public memorial at the the UCLA Pauley Pavilion.

Did  I say that Kuo has been NASTY lately.  This guy has gone thru so many T.J. operations and is basically an out away from ending his career but he keeps on pitching!   My Dodger hat off to you Kuo!

And my boy James Loney drove in four runs!  Here is Loney with my friend Erik who is celebrating his birthday today.  Happy birthday Erik!  May the Dodgers bring us a win!

I finally got to meet the famous Jane Heller!     Too bad I just spent a little time with her.   I also got to meet her husband and LadyJane who posts in  Jane Heller’s blog.   Wish I would have gotten a second chance to take the pic as this came out a little blurry and to spend more time with you and your husband Jane.

Jane Heller and LadyJane.jpg

A battle of lefties for the rubber matchup today:  The tough Veteran Andy Pettitte against 22 year old Kershaw.   Kershaw needs to control those walks.  He has given up 48 walks, the most in the NL and the Yankees lead the Majors in OBP.

With Fox doing the game yesterday and today ESPN,  I MISS VIN SCULLY!

Oh I forgot to mention that after his running, Padilla came over to the rail in the left field side and signed alot for fans in that side then the center field side.   Quite a few Yankee fans were there too getting his autograph.  I and many congratulated him on his outing the day before.  He signed my scorebook.    I asked him in Spanish who he was rooting for in the World Cup after USA was already out.  He looked at me, smiled and said “Is going to be tough but I am rooting for Mexico.

LET’S GO DODGERS!

LET’S GO MEXICO

Dodgers Yankees series.

I know I’ve been a little down with the Dodgers getting swept at Boston and that running blunders of game two against the Angels but we won last night in big fashion 10 -6!!   woohoo!

And tonight my boys in blue are back at OLOCR _Our Lady of Chavez Ravine that is Dodger Stadium, our Blue Heaven on Earth!

The LA Times has two wonderful pictures in the sport section:  One of  Joe DiMaggio with  Mickey Mantle and the other of our pair of aces, Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale.  the title?  World Class.  check out the article hereWorld Class  Love this pic:

yankees dodgers.jpg

The matchup for tonight’s game is:

CC Sabathia  against Vicente Padilla.

Remember that homerun CC Sabathia hit at Dodger Stadium during that interleague game in  when  he was with Cleveland?     We were both at the game in 2008 but could not remember who he hit the HR off of?   Guess who?

Chan Ho Park!  I am sure CC is looking forward to swinging the bat again.

Padilla:   Make sure we don’t see this:

Image: Sabathia

 I want to see this:

I am thinking “Maybe Sandy Koufax would be in attendance!

It got to be a little weird for Joe Torre seeing the Yankees in town.   BTW, Torre and Jeff:  When am I getting my baseball?    Last time I received a text from Jeff from the Safe at Home Foundation, he said he had my baseball signed by Joe and Koufax in a safe place.

Let’s go Dodgers Let’s Go!

Vin Scully:  We Love you!!

Dodger fans at Fenway Park

We got swept at Fenway Park.  The team failed to show up but we Dodger fans represented!

Here are pictures of Dodger fans.

The hats say “Viva Los Dodgers”

These guys that sat in back of us had us laughing for all three games.

I ran into Arlene who also sits in the Top Deck section 3.

Dodger fans at Fenway.jpg

Oldbrooklynfan and Truebluewill who post in the ITD blog made the trip from New York.  So I’ve seen you guys at Dodger Stadium and Fenway!  Maybe next year it will City Field! Dodger fans from ITD at Fenway jpg

Dodger fans at the Fenway Park tour.  At the end I asked the tour guy why no tour of the Press Box and the dugout like we get at Dodger Stadium.  He said our group was too big.  Also he failed to tell us that .30 minutes later they were letting fans on the field for Father’s Day.  Not cool.

Dodger fans group at the Fenway Park tour .jpg

Here is one of the pictures from the ESPN game that was being sent to cell-phones while we were watching the game.   I was next to this Red Sox couple who had gone to Dodger Stadium so they were on the mailing list.  When the opportunity of this trip came up , they signed up.  They are from Washington DC.  .

Dodger fans pic from the ESPN coverage .jpg

When the chant  “Beat LA”  started this Dodger fan had a sign that said “CANT BEAT LA  LAKER PARADE TOMORROW”

Can't Beat LA Laker Parade Tomorrow sign .jpg

and he also had this sign that reads

dodger fans.jpg

and this sign that says LAKERS WIN BOSTON SOXS.

Dodger fan with sign at Fenway .jpg

With the exception of a  couple of racist Red Sox fans we encountered we had a good time.    There was a lady in the group that was asked “Why are you a Dodger fan?  You are no Mexican”   The Dodger beat writer for the LA Times, Dylan Hernandez was complemented on speaking English.   He thought it was funny that he was asked that.   Dylan actually speaks three languages.  Lorena had someone else made a racist remarks to her also.

I have lots of more pictures from the Fenway Park tour and also the historical places we visited.

Pictures from Boston: Dodgers vs Red Sox

 Greetings from Boston!

Ugly loss yesterday but other than this first game, I am having a wonderful times with friends Lorena and Elisa.

at Fenway with friends Lorena and Elisa.jpg

Like I said a couple of days ago in the ITD blog, they should have given Jeff Weaver a start.

Too funny that these guys in back of us sometimes sit in the same row where we have our season tickets.  They know our friend Chuck who has those season tickets.

Fenway Trip and Dodger fansjpg

Having a hard time uploading pics.  They keep coming out too big.  This one with Tommy at the luncheon offered with the Dodgerlife event did come out.  Tommy recognized me when he saw me and gave me a hug.   During the Q&A I asked him where does he gets all his energy.  He said when you love what you do, is not really work.   He loves what he does and we all love him!

 Fenway Tommy Lasorda.jpg

well, I better close to go meet for Dodger fans friends!

Thinking Blue!  Go Dodgers!

Thinking Blue while Dodgers play Red Teams.

That was painful getting swept by the Angels.  But at least Sunday, I can see some players getting out of their slump like Manny, Raffy and Loney.  Now when Kemp, Ethier and the beared one join in, watch out!

This picture was taken by Dodger photographer Jon SooHoo.  Thanks Jon for a wonderful shot!

Weaver had to come and bat against Jerred.  Jerred in turn came to face Jeff.   Originally they were not supposed to face each other but with Monasterios failing to make it passed the 3rd, inning, in came in Jeff Weaver.
Weaver vs Weaver.jpg

Now the Dodgers are on the road to face the Cincinnatti Reds for three and then is off to Boston!   Don’t look ahead to the Red Sox boys so play well in Cinci.    I’ll see you all in Boston!  Go Dodgers!

Honduras faces Chile tomorrow morning at 4:30 AM.  Buena suerte Hondurenos!

Honduras-Chile preview

Red Sox tickets.jpgThree more days till my friends and I head to Boston!  I talked to Manny Sunday and told him that I hope he plays well in Boston.  He said “Si Dios quiere”   “Se lo dejo todo a Dios”   “God Willing”  “I leave everything to God”

Here are our tickets and the Dodgers polo shirt that we got included in the Dodgerslife event.

Think Blue!

Go Dodgers!

ThinkCure Weekend against the Angels and the World Cup

ThinkCure.jpg

ThinkCure. The Think Blue sign has been replaced with Think Cure, a yearly tradition in preparating for the Think Cure radiothon and Telethon.

There are some cool auction items there like a chance to shag fly balls during BP, meet Vin Scully, have an Italian dinner with Tommy, take a batting lesson with Don Mattingly. a baseball signed by Koufax, lots of players  signed jerseys and many more items. Peter Tilden of KABC said 100% of the proceeds go to the the ThinkCure foundation.

World Cup.  The world Cup started today!  Two tvs were installed in the cafeteria so we could watch the games, especially Mexico against SouthAfrica today.  The game ended up in a tied 1-1.

Here are some co-workers after the first game.

Here are my Honduras and USA jerseys:

Thumbnail image for Honduras Jersey.jpg
Thumbnail image for USA Soccer Jersey .jpgHere is the schedule.  USA plays tomorrow against England.  I will be at Angel Stadium attending a mandatory session so that I can volunteer for the All-Star Fan Fest around the time the game starts.

World Cup Soccer schedule .jpg

Honduras plays Chile on Wednesday at 4:30 AM!  I’ll be up watching the game before I head to work!  or I can go to the restaurant Rincon Chileno.  They will open at 4;30 and serve breakfast from Chile and Honduras.

This weekend is also the Dodgers Angels series.  Billinsgley goes against Pineiro.   Originally this series was supposed to be at Angel Stadium but because of a concert, the Angels asked the Dodgers to switch series so we got the weekend series!   At the end the concert with U2 got cancelled.

Saturday and Sunday, the Dodgers are sending rookies.   John Ely will face Scott Kazmir on Saturday and on Sunday Carlos Monasterios will face Jerred Weaver.

Go Dodgers!

Go USA!

Go Honduras!

From Last to First! Meet John Ely

Thumbnail image for Frist place.jpgFrom Last to First.    The Dodgers’ win coupled with the San Diego loss took over first place in the National League West for the first time in 2010!   . After losing to Colorado on May 8, the Dodgers were in last place, 6.0 games behind the Padres, and have gone 22-7 since!

Kuroda-san pitched his best game against Carpenter but Kuo got the win and Jonathan Broxton the save.     Final score: Dodgers 1, Cardinals 0.

Last Saturday my friends and I went to see Ely at an assigned signing at the At&T store in Culver City.    We found Ely to be personable and adorable.   Here are some pictures:

All about Ely

Ely Signed my scorebook on a scoresheet where he pitched!  He looked at it and said “This is Cool!”   He was impressed with Lorena who asked him who his favorite pitchers were growing up.   I took a picture of Lore and Ely with her camera.   Then after my pic with Ely, we were asked if we wanted one with both of us in the picture.

Thank you Ely!  Thank you At&T and thank you KABC for the tickets!   We sat in the Reserved aisle 7 on Sunday, courtesy of KABC.

Tonight’s game:  Clayton Kershaw against Wainwright.  This time I will be able to watch the whole game.  Yesterday I was working with the Red Cross collecting pledges for the upcoming Annual Blood Drive for Saturday June 19.

This is an annual competition between the Angels and the Dodgers Booster Club.   If you donate at this annual Blood drive, you get a voucher for your choice of team tickets,  a commemorative t-shirt,  a voucher for fish tacos from Wahoo, and a voucher for the Laugh Factory in Pasadena!

DONATE BLOOD!   and GO DODGERS!

Pictures from the 70’s night at Dodger Stadium

OK I barely had time today to post the pictures from the 70’s night at Dodger Stadium.  Lots of pictures for lots of laughs.

Brady Bunch actor Barry Williams.  He said “That looks like my hair in the 70’s.

Brady Bunch actor Barry Williams .jpg

The famous Roberto of Vinscullyismyhomeboy took this picture.  Jon Soo Hoo had asked me to pose with his poster.   I did not noticed I had buttoned the shirt wrong until an usher in the club level pointed it out to me!

Later on these two guys showed up for batting practice
