Dodgers Off Season and World Series

First of all, congratulations to Andre Ethier!! Ethier has been named the 2009 Major League Baseball’s Clutch Performer of the Year!   Andre led the Majors with six walk-off hits, including four homers. Congrats Andre! A Well deserved award for you!!

Andre Ethier

I was watching Game 5 of the 1969 Mets-Orioles series on MLB TV. I love to watch old games and take a look at the suroundings like fans in suits, ties and hats. I noticed a sign for Royal Crown Cola. I think it was back in the 80’s that I used to work for this company. I remember Lee Majors used to advertise Diet Rite, a product of RC Cola.   Remember him playing the bionic man in The Six Million Dollar Man. Here is a commercial I found of Lee Majors and his son from back in 1986

Talking about the bionic man, Mariano Rivera sure is some tough hombre.   He is the only closer in the postseason that has not had a meltdown inning.

Did you know that during Charlie Manuel playing days in Japan, he took a fastball in the chops which took out a large portion of his teeth and shattered his jaw?

Well, is the battle of the P’s for game six of the World Series.  Two old vets in Pedro and Pettit  I think I want the W.S. to go seven so that I watch more “beisbol.”.

Meanwhile between the McCourt’s divorce (see this blog for updates ) and now that Padilla shot himself on the leg, is never a dull off season for the Dodgers.

I went to the LaPrensa, com from Nicaragua and read the report in Spanish.    He got there on his own and he said “it was a light accident.   The dimwit is OK and back in his ranch.  Actually, the way our countries in Central America are, who knows what really happened there.

And because I never get tired of watching Gibby’s walk-off homerun in the 1988 World Series and listening to Vin Scully, here it is:

Wow. You’re not kidding about it not being a dull off-season for the Dodgers so far. The McCourts’ divorce aside (I love that Dodger Divorce web site!), I can’t believe Padilla shot himself in the leg. Crazy!

Gibby’s walk-off! I’ll never forget that game. Ever. Epic. No other words for it. Congrats to Ethier. He’s one of the good guys.

I heard about Padilla and I hope he will be okay! Congrats to Andre and I too hope that the McCourt’s divorce doesn’t hurt the team.

Great for Andre!!! He deserves it. And a great way to end your post with My Favorite Kirk at the plate! Have a great offseason kid.

Buz –

Emma, I’ll never get tired of watching Gibby’s HR!! Almost brings a tear to my eye. Awesome video of the entire sequence!

Keep an eye on that site for some entainment during the off-season.
Glad you also appreciate Gibby. When the D’backs come to town, he takes a few minutes to sign autographs for fans.
Thanks. I think is unavoidable that this divorce will hurt the Dodgers. We just hope that is not too painful.
He is favorite Kirk too!! I hope you will keep your blog updated from time to time. I will miss you. Keep me updated of any of your writting projects.
I never get tired of watching it either. My friend LTD23 found it and put a link on her facebook. Thanks for stopping by! I was pointing out the baseball diamond on Longden to my brother and he too never noticed it before.

Awesome. My friends and I used to mimic the arm pump around the bases when we played whiffle ball in the backyard. I do a pretty good Eck impression, so I was always humiliated… every time. LOL.

Emma: CONGRATS TO ANDRE! I voted for him hehehe even though Mariano Rivera was one of the candidates….hehehe don’t tell any of my Yankee fan friends… love for Andre just took over when I voted. Congrats to him. Gosh, Gibson looked like he was in a lot of pain during that at-bat. What a dramatic homer. And a great call by Scully, too. We should keep in touch:)

Padilla shot himself? I thought I saw something to that effect earlier, but glanced past it to something else. I’ll have to go find out the details. Sorry the Phillies couldn’t take it to a Game 7 – believe me, I was really bumming. But, now I can get back to thinking “randomly” for the winter – it’s so much more fun than thinking in a focused manner:-).
Rants, Raves, and Random Thoughts

Andre deserved the award, he was definitely not the guy opposing teams wanted at the plate in the 9th inning when it was close….. I am not sure what will be more intense this off season the trades or the who gets what with the McCourts…
Outside the Phillies Looking In

Ethier may be the most underrated player in baseball, and proved this year that he is a very valuable performer.

Hey Jeff,
I do a good imitation of Eck too. I am a lousy player, but I like to roll my eyes at the ball a la Eck.
more congrats to Andre for the Silver slugger award!! Yeahhh!
I know what you mean. i was able to watch the W.s. all relaxed. Still, I would have traded places with you in a heart beat.
agh.. don’t mention the McCourts. I rather think of the dynamic duo of Andre and Kemp!
Andre is beginning to get the recognition he deserves.
