Dodgers Wolfman and Knuckleballer too much for Cubs

Randy Wolf
knocks in the only two runs and throws seven brilliant innings on Friday!   What a great early birthday present he gave himself!  Randy Wolf’s birthday was Saturday 8/22.   He along with Jeff Weaver share a birthday.  they both turn 33.

Saturday was a Fox sport game and what a performance by the knucleballer Charlie Haeger!  He baffled the Cubs.   Charlie went seven innings.  Closer Jonathan Broxton came in in the eight but Joe Torre explained that it was only so Broxton could face the same guys he faced the prior night.  George Sherrill closed the game in the nine.  Final score: Dodgers 2, Cubs 0.   The two runs came as a result of two homeruns, one by Casey Blake and Matt Kemp. . Speaking of Kemp…

MATT KEMP.   Wow Matt!  Matt Kemp hit one out of the ballpark!  It went out of the Dodger bullpen.  I could see fan running in front of the gift shop in that area after the ball.   The ball travelled 449 feet.

Prior to that there have been only three players that have hit homeruns out of Dodger Stadium.  They are:

Willie Stargell is the only person to ever hit two home runs out of Dodger Stadium. His first was a 506 foot bomb off of pitcher Alan Foster on August 5th 1969, and the other was a 470 foot shot off of Andy Messersmith on May 8th 1973.

It wasn’t for over 30 years before Mike Piazza became the second player and only Dodger (until yesterday) to ever hit a home run out of the park. On September 21st 1997, Mike Piazza hit a 478 foot home run off of San Francisco Giant pitcher Mike Lansing.

July 17th 1998, Mark McGwire hit the longest home run at 511 ft over the right field pavilion at Dodger Stadium against pitcher Brian Bohanon.

Meet one of our ushers in the Top Deck:  Leonard is a true Dodger fan!  Check out his tatoo!

    Jane,
If there was one Dodger that could do it was our Matty. Like Ken Levine (co-host of Dodger Talk and writer of shows like Cheers, Mash, etc) said “If Matt would have gotten all of that ball, it would have broken a car window.” And I am also too chicken to get a tatoo but IF I was to get one, I’d get a tiny one too.

Good for Matt Kemp hitting one out of the ballpark! I didn’t realize he had that kind of power. Wow. And Leonard’s tattoo is pretty cool. I’d love to get a Yankees tattoo – just a tiny one – but I’m too chicken.

I’d say that was above and beyond. Every time I ever went to get a tattoo, I chickened out. Having your work place on your arm must point to true dedication.

Hey knouff, I am so afraid of needles that I work hard on myself to volunteer to donate blood. If I ever get one it would be so tiny. My friend LTD23 and I saw Leonard in San Diego. He was there as a fan.

Emma: Hi! Sorry about not getting the sweep. But at least you won the series. My Yanks won the series against Boston with an 8-4 win in the rubber game last night. They hit 5 homers off Josh Beckett!!!
That is some tattoo! I don’t know if I like tattoos. I know I like them on men, like A.J. Burnett. It’s hot on men. I can’t really decide if I like them on girls. It works for some. I don’t like when a girl has some giant ugly tattoo. Maybe a rose or a butterfly or something, that’s nice. If I got a tattoo, it would be the Yankee interlocking ny sitting on roses. I don’t know where I would put it though. Whatever. I can’t get one now anyway! -Virginia

    Hey Virginia,
I am very happy taking 3 out of 4 from the Cubs. I saw that your Yankees won the series! Way to go! and 5 homers off Josh Beckett! Wow!.
    .
I never liked tatoos, I just admire the fans that get them. Leonard’s tatto is very nice. I know the guy that did the tatoo as he is a young guy with season tickets that owns the “TrueBlue Tatoo” place in Hollywood. He was featured in the Lil Matt video that I posted in one of my posts and he was also featured in the Bluetopia movie.

    Hey Ted,
    Thanks I’ll check it soon.
    .
Bobby, I am going to have to ask him about that in the next homestand.

What a tattoo! I would love to have a small “B” on my ankle for the Boston Red Sox, but I don’t like the fact that you can never erase a tattoo once you get it. (Not saying I will love another team! I will always be a Red Sox lover)

    Congrats on a win!

    Melissa,
I know what you mean. A tatoo is not for everyone. Our Pilates instructor has a nice rose with leaves and it looks good on her but is not for me.

WOW EMMA…that’s a great tatoo. Usher for life (por vida)…LOL! The series with the Cubs was a great one. Well the sweep would of been wonderful but I take 3 out of 4. Wolf was the one man show on Friday, great pitching, great batting….LOL! I will say over all this whole weekend was about the pitchers. I did not catch the Spanish Broadcasting…booohoo…well I caught the last minute. LOL! Day off for the Dodgers is well deserve. I hope they are recharging their batteries for the next series…we still have the Rockies on our back. GOOOOO DODGERS!

  11. crzblue2

Hey Msdodgersrule! Is a great design with the palm trees. I’ll take 3 out of four anytime! I was getting greedy wanting the sweep. Yes, good pitching and Cub Dempster was dishing it out on Sunday. I listened to the them after the 4th inning at the stadium and caught the beginning of the Spanish transmission when I got home but I was not going to sit thru the loss for the entire game. All three of them had their best “garritas” (threads) on. LOL. The game started with Pepe welcoming everyone from the outside of the club level where you have the logo of the bleeding baseball. that is the way Maurice (RIP) who passed away of Cancer used to describe the logo.

OH YEAH….we did not have crazy fans running on the field this time, but we sure did have bees buzzing around…LOL!

  13. crzblue2

that was so funny about the bees. When I was in Chicago we had the birds on the outfield. No crazy fans on the field but it was Sunday so kids do run on the field after the game. Have you ever taken your kids?

  14. thinkingblue

I did not know that kids take the field after the games. I will keep that in mind.
do you know if those people that were sitting in Section BEE (LOL) did they get moved to another section…upgrades would of been nice…or just anything shady…LOL!

  15. crzblue2

    Rosie,
Yeah, they start lining up and running the bases. If you do it, start getting in line like an inning before the game ends.
LOL. Exactly where was that BEE section? I heard about it after the game but did not noticed it. Was it one of the pavilions?
    .
Where do the boys go after Col? ::checks schedule:::ah Cinci. Never been there but I’ve been to the airport. I had good chili at the airport.

    Hey Julia,
Matt Kemp is a 5 tool players and no, you cannot have him! lol. Btw, Matt Kemp was showing us his tattos the year before at the WIN luncheon. He got it from the same place Leonard got his.

Warp time here where I responded to Julia before her post. I wonder if everyone is having the same problem.
