All-Star games, Fanfest and the Second Half of the  Season

All-Star games and Fanfest

I have only attended one All-Star game and that was at Dodger Stadium in 1980.  Dodger Stadium has only hosted ONE All-Star game.  The Angels on the other hand are going for their  3rd!  C’mon Bud Selig!  Let Dodger Stadium host the All-Star in 2012 when the stadium will be  celebrating its 50 year anniversary!

Two years ago, when the Giants were hosting the All-Star, I went there but only to the Fanfest.   I highly recomend it to anyone that if you cannot go to the game itself, go to the Fanfest.   The was my first Fanfest as they did not have those back in 1980.

For kids they had batting cages, pitching skills, base running, etc.   The memorabilia was very extensive from the standard new stuff to a lot of vendor booths with old baseball cards, old pictures, yearbooks, programs, etc.  I could have spent hours going thru all the memorabilia the vendors were displaying.

Another thing that they had was a Karaoke booth set where people were lining up to sing “Take me out to the Ballgame.”  We found it funny that the booth had the Dodger logo :-).   My friend and I got in line but we changed some of the words to the song to  “Buy me some peanuts and Dodger dogs.”.  Of course we got booed by Giant fans.

Edit:  I found the picture from the Babe Ruth All Star booth:

They were so many exhibitions at the Fanfest like the Hall of Fame, Negro league, Minor League, Latino League, baseball equipment and Women’s league.   there was also autograph sessions with women players from the AAGPBL, and current HOF inductee Tony Gwynn.
We also caught the last minutes of Bud Selig’s interview.   I hope to make it to the game next year at Angel Stadium and also of course to the Fanfest.

 Second half of the Season

Thursday is the start of the second half of the season. I hope all our boys in Blue get a well deserved rest and they all recuparate from all their aches and pains.   That Ned finds us a pitcher and that  doug mientkiewicz will be ready in the second half.  I saw him working hard at the stadium when I attended the ITD (InsidetheDodgers) blog tour.   Here he was with a shirt that says “Minor Setback for a Major Comeback.”.  I love the shirt!  Good luck Dougie!

Southern California has had many All Star games in the last 30 years or so. I suggest getting out to the games at other stadiums even if they are not the same as Dodger Stadium. I hope we can get another one soon too. I have gone to 4 All Star games (L.A., Anaheim, San Diego, San Francisco) and the experience is always a great one plus the Fan Fest is wonderful too. There was a FanFest in Anaheim the last time they had the game there. It changes a little depending on where it is. Go Dodgers. Can’t wait to see how the second half goes!

    Emma,
Giants are just mad cause their Giants Dogs do not live up to their name and everyone loves the Dodger Dogs….LOL Maybe next year when the Angels host the All-Stars we can attend the festivities and represent! Well hopefully the 2nd half of the season is better than the 1st (that would be amazing). O’dog is coming out of his slump…Martin (hopefully) is out of his slump. Manny is back and Ethier, Kemp, Loney, Blake & Furcal stay strong. And yes we will still need for Pierre to remain strong. And our pitchers are getting better. GOOOOO DODGERS!

    Cal,
Next year. i could not make it to St Louis this year. I have been in Stl Louis but for a 4 game series against the Dodgers which they lost all of them. Hey I was watching an All-Star from 1996 and I saw Cal there!
    .
    Canuck,
I also love Doug’s shirt. It shows not only with his shirt but his actions that he is working extra hard to come back.

    Dillon,
Any kind of baseball is good. I watched the derby then All timers with the celebrities. God willing I will make it to Anaheim next year.
    .
    Rose,
We got to represent next year at Anaheim. If you get a chance go to the Fanfest next year. they have many things for kids.
    .
    King,
You are lucky that you got to go to four All-Star. Maybe I’ll see you next year.
    .
    GO DOYERS!

    Jane & Julia,
Love to see you two still like him. I became his fan when I saw make an out during a Spring Training and he handed his bat to a kid. What a guy!

Doug M. now there is a guy who can help you ballclub just by being in the locker room.
Great guy, fantstic bat skills, and plays a mean first base.
It will be another great boost to the Dodger psyche to get him back hitting like a champ in the second half.
So many people have commented that it might be the Dodgers division to lose right now.
Hopefully the injury bug stays away and the pitching just hums along like a clean running engine.

    Rays,
Hopefully Doug comes back soon after the second half starts. Hey we had Kuroda out for so long and that other pitcher who we called “the invisible man” Jason Schmidt. Last time I heard he had a good outing in the minor league in his long awaited return back.

I’m sorry but the home run derby was HORRENDOUS last night. Chris Berman was putting me to sleep. By the way I’m all for an NLCS rematch this season, with exactly the same outcome of course haha.
http://payoffpitch.mlblogs.com/ New post about the pathetic derby last night

    Phi8008,
It must be ’cause I caught it toward the end and I was catching up in my reading at the same time. I miss baseball already that any crumb you throw me is good for me. Hamilton last year was the best though. haha, yes, we want a rematch! We got some unfinished business with your team.

Hey Crzblue, funny you should mention that FanFest, I mentioned it too in my post! I can’t wait for another All-Star game in beautiful Southern California! And it should be at Dodger Stadium, too! Gorgeous weather today. Hope the National League comes through for us in St. Louis.

Do my brown eyes deceive me!? I see Blueyes here! Georgeous weather here in Southern Cal too. Actually a little too hot. I sure hope the NL comes thru! I want to go back to the old days when the NL ruled!

    Dillon,
I am too exicted but I can only hear it until I get home and watch the last few innings. Such is my fate!
    .
I think tomorrow with the day off I am going to start working on planning another road trip. I feel the need for road trip!

Emma…You guys came thiiiiis close, then Howard was out. The Mo was pitching and well…that’s an automatic win pretty much. Torre knew. You could see it.

I felt better seeing Evan laughing and having fun during the game. He’s still planning on playing on Friday, so hopefully he’ll be back to 100%.

    Happy trip planning!
    Ginny
