50 50 & Grandpa Elliot

The Dodgers became the first team to win 50 games yesterday at the Ravine when they defeated the Rockies 1-0.  The Rockies had a no-hitter going into the 5th inning.  The only run came in the 8th inning.  Awesome pitching for both teams.

The game was also the 50-game suspention for Manny so after a day off today, Manny will play in San Diego.   The way our hitting has been lately, we really need him.   I don’t expect him to just show up and be like a hitting machine but I expect the team to get better with him around and his hitting will improve as he plays more.

It was a beautiful day at the Ravine for the 12:10 game time Thursday.  Way to start July wtih a win!    Because of the early start, it was also Camp day so buses after buses of kids made it to the stadium as well as numerous families with their kids.  I took my 10 & 5 year nieces.  they were wearing their Dodger Jerseys with pink tank tops underneath.   We were waiting outside for the gates to open so we were there two hours before game time and we stayed until the end.  In the 5th inning, we were put on the big screen and they along with their auntie started jumping up and down.   We had a grand time.

Today it was back to work, but tomorrow my friend Lorena and I are heading  to Petco Park in San Diego!   Manny served his time so we are ready to move on and support him because he wears the Dodger uniform.   I expect the opposition to give him a hard time.   We cannot stay Saturday but we will be back on Sunday.  Let’s go Dodgers, Let’s go!!    We are ready to take the “Beat L.A.”  chant in San Diego.

Tuesday night, Grandpa Elliot sang the best rendition of “God Bless America” that I have heard at Dodger Stadium.  let’s see if the link works

Thanks Dillon,
Grandpa also played the harmonica for the Star Spangled Banner. He is amazing.

Great Emma! Enjoy the games!

I was also at this game. I had never heard of Grandpa Elliot and I have never seen anyone play the harmonica quite like he did. I also am not crazy at the singing of God Bless America in the 7th inning but I agree with you Emma, this version was the best.

Grampa blows a mean harp.
Here he is with StonyB playing an original song about Hurricane Katrina:

I guess the embed code does not work even though it shows on the preview.

32and53,
I guess the word preceding “a mean harp” was not accepted as I got an email to approve it. LOL, never seen that. Like the politicians say ” I approve this message.” LOL.

32and53,
I asked my aunt if she knew who lukemccain was and she hit it out of the park. She would be my life line for any old movie question if I needed a life line.

With the Dodgers beating every team in sight, having Manny’s bat in the lineup will be icing on the cake. It’ll be interesting to hear your report on the San Diego trip and his reception there.

Jane,
We are barely beating the teams, we need to score more runs. Having Manny back is huge but I know that he will need time to catch up. Is going to be interesting the road trip. After SD, the Dodgers head to New York and Milwaukee.

I have a feeling Manny won’t take as long to catch up as some have said. He’s a veteran with a great knowledge of the pitchers and the strike zone. I think Manny’s going to dial it up a notch to try and prove something. Look for the Padres pitchers to pitch to him careful but not as careful at first and perhaps see Manny sting them for it in a big way.

Aducker,
I sure hope you are right but I do see the Padre pitchers testing the waters with him. Would love to see Manny sting them. Is going to be an interesting this weekend. We will be heading there soon.

I’ve got some friends moving to San Diego. I think I may try to get over to San Diego next year to see a Dodgers game.

Very nice performance by Mr Elliot, have you and Lorena a good time in San Diego.

I hope you have a great time in San Diego, it’s going to be crazy. I really really hope my Padres can take a couple games from you guys, though it’s very unlikely!! Anyways, BEAT LA!!!

Aducker,
Do it. You will see the team and the big contingency of Dodger fans here.

Bluedog,
Check the other link that 32and53 posted here about Grandpa Elliot.

Kaybee,
Interesting towel that the Padres are giving out tomorrow….er later on today with the “Beat LA” on it.

Heya Emma! How are the boys doing out there? I hear Manny’s back. Sucks to hear he had a crappy night on his first game back. He’ll come around soon enough. Unless the Padres have other ideas!

Hey Canuck,
Well he homered in the second game but we lost the game. It has been so crazy at Petco. I will be there tomorrow. I got to start a new post but have been so busy. Thanks.
