I Dedicate my #34 Ranking to Fernando Valenzuela!

To follow the tradition of other bloggers, I dedicate my #34 ranking to Fernando Valenzuela!   Fernando brings back so many memories when I first became a season ticket holder.  What a year 1981 was from Fernando taking over on Opening Day for an injured Jerry Reuss to the Dodgers winning the World Series against the Yankees!   How sweeeet that was!

I remember watching Fernando playing with a baseball but using it as a soccer ball. He was very playfull.

This is my favorite picture of Fernando.

At the peak of Fernandomania there was a song sang at the then Dodger flag station which again became the Dodger station last year. It went like this

Fernando the great Valenzuela

Supreme matador of them all .

………………………………………….. (this line I forgot )

But by throwing a little baseball.

Don’t know why I still remember that portion and not the other.

Another song that brings so many memories is Abba’s song “Fernando”

Abba Fernando Song

There was something in the air that night Fernando…..the stars were bright Fernando…Though we tthought we never  lose, there is no regrets…

Abba’s songs reminds me of my first boyfriend.

I can still hear Vin Scully say “If you have a sombrero, throw it into the sky!”

Que viva el toro!! OLE!!! Ahua!!!

Thank you all that contribute to my rankings! xoxoxo

Fernandomania Lives On!!!!!!!
.
GO DODGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol. It will never die. Nancy Bea only has to play “Fernando” to get all the people remembering Fernando. He gets a nice round of applause when he is shown on the big screen. I forget what is the second song Nancy plays. shoot! she told me but I forgot. I am going to have to invite her here. Hope she stops by.

Hi Emma, congrats on your ranking!

Fernando was great, and also the unfortunate beginning of my Jersey jinx… got a Fernando jersey t-shirt… Gone within a year. Football-wise, I got a Jeff Hostettler jersey, he left the Raiders that year. I was dumb enough to fall for it twice with Jeff George as well, heheh. And I had a Piazza jersey… in 1997. And then recently, got a Randy Moss Raider jersey… heheheh. And a Kobe jersey… 2 weeks before that sad business in Colorado had him tarnish his own name forever… then to boot, he changed his number within a year.

Luckily, my girlfriend got me a Jackie Robinson jersey for my B-day a couple of years back… like you said in an earlier ITD post, We know Jackie isn’t going anywhere, heheheh. Don’s next… maybe Sandy… or maybe I can end the curse where it started, with a Fernando jersey :)

Some might want me to get a Juan Pierre jersey, but I like the guy, just wish he’d accept a role as a team player.

Sorry for the long post, congrats again!!

Admittedly, I am not a Dodgers fan but I’d have to say that 1981 was a very fun year watching Fernando “arrive” with the team. Well, I can’t entirely say that I am not a Dodgers fan since Don Mattingly remains one of my all-time favorite players and I could never root against him (unless his team was facing the Yankees, of course). But back to Fernando, #34 was definitely a special player, and a great choice for you to honor. Congrats on your leaders list ranking! Have a great weekend!

NSB! I always read all your post at ITD so continue to post long posts! I gave my brother Vic a jersey of Penny in December ’07, his favorite player back then, he asked me to take it to Vero Beach last year in case I could get it sign but I could not. I talked a few times to Jeff Kent before I could even see Penny, oh well. last Christmas I got him a Jackie Robinson. I wish back in the days I would have gotten a Fernando jersey.
